Detailed Reviews
The room was nice and not worn down as some state in the reviews (room 403, see photos) - we had the promised bay view and everything was ok for the price. The single bed rooms though only provide some sort of arrow slit as the balcony
We didn't check the breakfast, since there are so many opportunities to have great breakfast in the close neighborhood.
The personnel just did what was absolutely necessary, the duvet cover wasn't changed for the entire week of our stay, I would have expected this to happen at least every second or third day. Further leftovers from snacks stayed in their place for the entire stay as well, so no real room cleaning.
One night there was a fire alarm, which was managed quite chaotic. First, only about 10 people actually left the building, there was noone to give some supervision. The receptionist wanted to take a look at what was happening and took the elevator (!) to check the rooms - luckily in the end it was just some idiots that smoked in their room, but if this had been a true fire it might have ended up quite seriously.
One night we woke up to screams and people hitting doors which turned out to be a bunch of drunken folks - after talking to the receptionist he told me that he had called them on the phone to tell them to stay quiet and that was all. Finally after another half an hour of screams and rumble from the room everyone obviously fell asleep. I'd wish that the hotel would take over more accountability of their facilities in these cases.
The Sea View rooms are facing the main street, so expect some noise at night, but the mornings are great. The WIFI doesn’t really work, most of the time I got connected but couldn’t access any internet location.
Looking at the reviews here, I feel that people should stay reasonable with their judgement around the cleanliness of the rooms. I feel it was ok and wonder, if it looks better in the homes of these, that complain about the status of the rooms. Surely there is room for improvement, but my impression was, that, given the very attractive price, the location is still a good place to be

I have been nervous about trying this Hotel, because of the negative reviews, but I can honestly say, hand on heart, ignore them, it was great! I had a friendly welcome on check-in by the Night Receptionist, I took the Lift up to the 3rd floor to my Seaview Single Room. It was big for a Single Room (many hotels would have squeezed in a Double Bed and called it a Double). The room was tastefully furnished, and well equipped, with a Fridge, Safe, Air Conditioning, Large Flat Screen Tv, and Tea & Coffee Making facilities. Everything was totally clean. The Bathroom was small but just as nice, with a Shower, WC, and nice modern round wash hand basin. The icing on the cake is the seaview, it was lovely (day & night). There is a small balcony and yes, half the space is taken up by the Aircon Unit (mentioned in other reviews), but this is a Single Room, and there is perfectly enough space for the occupant to go out there.
I had Breakfast included, and it was a very good selection (compared to other Maltese 3 star Hotels). All the staff I encountered, Reception, Restaurant, and Housekeeping were friendly and always said 'hello'. There plenty of Restaurants around to eat out, and bus stops to go to almost anywhere on the Island, close by.
I had a great time, and I'll definitely go back!

Good location with great view of the bay , loads of shops and restaurants near by but.....noisy street downstairs and live music from the bar downstairs will wake up the dead even on the 3rd floor!
Clean, recently redecorated, but the staff are utterly indifferent at reception. Does the job if you are not a light sleeper

Stayed here for 3 nights in a sea view room overlooking the bay, fabulous views sitting out with a morning coffee, the photo is from our balcony.
Good size room, spotless, bed very comfortable, tea and coffee making facilities, fridge, everything you need.
Good value breakfast, plentiful and covers all the basics
Great staff at reception and the cleaners, always had a smile on their faces.
Perfect location, easy to get anywhere on foot, bus or taxi.
It's certainly not 5 star but for the price I cannot fault it.
Recommend the extra for the sea view rooms, well worth it.

We had booked a 9-night stay in a regular double room with sea view (in May for September 2021). When we arrived late on a Friday night, we were charged the full amount for the stay (in line with the booking confirmation) but when we entered the room, we immediately realised that we had been give an economy double room which was much smaller than the one we had booked (18 sq metres instead of 24). We complained to the receptionist but she was unable to solve the problem. The next morning we spoke to the manager who told us that rooms are assigned on arrival, completely ignoring the fact that the hotel offers two separate categories of room.
As the hotel was unable to provide us with a room in the booked category and we didn't want to stay in the small room with a tiny bathroom for 8 further nights, we left but the hotel has still not refunded us any money.
The room was quite old and worn, the bathroom was tiny and you had to squeeze through a 40 cm shower door which was also partly blocked by the toilet seat. The shower enclosure had been leaking for some time so there were stains on the floor.
The breakfast room was windowless with crumbling walls and breakfast and staff were hostel, not hotel standard.

I recently stayed at the St. Julians Bay Hotel and regrettably, my experience was far from satisfactory. Here are the major issues I encountered during my stay: The Wi-Fi connection was extremely weak and unreliable. For those traveling for business purposes, I would strongly advise against staying here due to the inconsistent internet service. Our room was very dark, with only a single light that barely illuminated the space. This made the room feel gloomy and unwelcoming. The bathroom's cleanliness was appalling, with the shower frame covered in mold. This is unacceptable and poses a health hazard. The overall cleanliness of the hotel was abysmal. Despite hanging the "clean my room" sign, housekeeping only made the bed and did not clean the floors or the bathroom. My partner shaved on Tuesday, and by the Wednesday evening, hair was still scattered around the sink and floor. Furthermore, we had the same towels all week despite placing them on the floor to indicate we needed fresh ones. After several failed attempts to resolve this with the staff, we ended up buying our own towels. Additionally, there were long black hairs all over the bathroom, and I have long blonde hair, so they were clearly not mine. The walls are very thin, and we could hear everything from the neighboring rooms. This made it extremely difficult to get a good night's sleep or relax. The elevator was very slow and broke down twice during our week-long stay. Staying on the fourth floor, this was particularly inconvenient after a long day out. This review is to provide a realistic picture of what to expect, as the hotel does not live up to the images and ratings online. If cleanliness, a good night's sleep, and reliable internet are important to you, I would recommend looking elsewhere for accommodation. Last night, water started leaking from the air conditioner. We turned off the air conditioner and went to the reception. The gentleman gave us instructions on how to fix the air conditioner without coming to check the situation himself. After he gave us the instructions, I had to ask him for towels or something to wipe the floor with, as the air conditioner was next to the bed. Totally disappointed with the staff as well. I have no more words to say, the only thing I'm happy about is that Malta is so beautiful; otherwise, I would have packed up and left on the third day after arriving at this hotel. This hotel is more like hostel, not a hotel.

Horrendous!! Felt more hostel than hotel! Lady on the desk was fantastic but had no power as it wasn’t her regular hotel. The first room we were allocated stank of cigarettes so we asked to change but were told we’d have to pay an extra 25 euros for the next room up!! This was non negotiable & had to agree under duress as we had already paid & just needed somewhere for the night. The new room was great, a really good outlook didn’t smell but had clumps of hair all over the floor. There was no duvet cover just sheets so bed was highly uncomfortable & the sink had a sharp glass square base which made it pretty nigh on impossible to get on & off the toilet without cutting your legs to ribbons!! Good job we are relatively slim as wouldn’t have been possible if we were any bigger!!
Will not be returning

Really low quality hotel. Below is a brief account of the nights spent until today.
- upon arrival we were assigned a room on the ground floor with a window overlooking the street and a grate to block the window (a cell). Furthermore, even more serious was the presence of damp stains on all the walls. Luckily they changed our room pretending not to know anything.
-the second room is a photocopy of the first but without the humidity stains. Apart from this, the room looks really shabby with old and ruined furniture. Dust everywhere and a persistent damp smell (I am asthmatic and allergic).
-on the second day according to the lobby, they forgot to clean our room (absurd).
To be clear, cleaning is just tucking in, the next day I found exactly the same dust and dirt in the bathroom.
-since we are located on a low floor we cannot open the window in the evening otherwise we will be invaded by the cockroaches that populate the streets.
- room not at all soundproof, we wake up 2/3 times a night to feed those returning to the hotel (same thing in the morning)
-the bathroom has a tiny window that cannot be opened due to the risk of cockroaches
-On 13/08 we asked in the hall if there was the possibility of having a better room while also paying the difference. We were told to wait until Tuesday 15th with the indication of a difference of €60/night, magically it became €140/night this morning.
Let's say that the hotel has put some photos online that appear to be captivating but completely false, it is not a 3 star as far as we are concerned.
The holiday is truly ruined from this point of view, they took the money but we didn't even get half the service.
If we had the chance we would immediately move to another facility but our hearts cry to give away €1100 to this terrible facility.
What can we do? Is it possible for two people to ruin their holidays like this?

Visited in the off season months, so was a little quieter than normal. Had a wonderful time - Malta is a must visit place!
Hotel was perfect for the price I paid. Obviously it’s not a 5 star hotel but I didn’t pay 5 star hotel prices so I was very happy.
Room was spacious and as seen in the photos on the booking site.
Clean and no damages all round very good, would recommend to anyone on a certain budget

Stayed a night after a wedding - very helpful and friendly staff. Front of hotel /entrance needs 'tlc' but the room was comfortable and location was convenient. Receptionist recommended 'Sale e Pepe', a traditional Italian restaurant with outdoor dining on the seafront - great food, value and staff.

There are lifts so that shouldn’t be an issue. I went with my teenage daughter so the need for a high chair did not arise. There is no pool at the hotel.
No , there are no tea making facilities in the rooms , you have to contact reception for drinks.
Yes, it is all of those. Lots of bars in the area and the noisy and lively area of night life is a short walk away should you want that - but the hotel is far enough away so that it is not noisy.
No. Right next there is an excellent cafe called Boccocinos though.
Yes - wife said it was an OK one as well (I don't have any hair so can't comment!)
