Jua House is a wonderful homebase for exploring Shela and Lamu. If you want to stay in all day (hopefully you wouldn't), there are plenty of comfortable nooks and crannies to lay around in, from the communal area right outside your bedroom door to one of the two rooftop terraces. If you are out and about (as I was), coming home to Shela after a busy day is a treat. The showers are open and bright and clean with hot water. The beds are comfortable and the mosquito netting does not have holes! I loved sleeping with the windows wide open; there was always a breeze. Noise? Donkeys braying, the call of the muezzin, and the adorable squeals of children at the nursery school next door - I will remember it all as the music of Shela! Tomas' staff is absolutely joyful; Eddy, Amani, and Fondo can help you with whatever you need. They will certainly bring you the best breakfast you've ever had. May I suggest yogurt and homemade granola with fruit and fried eggs? Although I like to support locals when I travel, I believe that Tomas has invested properly into this place and community. I know he treats his staff well, and the activities he recommends (massage with Awham!) all benefit the locals of Lamu. Jua House is a destination in itself, and it's also a wonderful homebase for exploring Shela and Lamu.

What a beautiful experience staying in Jua house. We stayed in the rooftop suite and it couldn't have been better. The rooms were spacious and spotlessly clean, with all amenities (including a fridge) you need. Everything felt well taken care of without loosing its authentic charm. It all blended in together. The cute decorations, the layout of the terrace. the hammocks It was just so nice. Not to mention the views. Now the best part: THE BREAKFAST on the terrace. Every morning, our breakfast was served on the beautiful terrace, with a slight breeze blowing around our faces and the views in front of us. The food was excellent, FRESH home backed bread, fresh fruits, fresh juice, granola...it was amazing! Internet was good, so it is ideal to work in peace. The overall vibe was very special. We met very interesting people there from all over the world, who all found their Oasis in Jua. The location is in the heart of Shela with easy access to everything. Shops, beach, Peponi Hotel, Jetty. A VERY SPECIAL THANK YOU TO THE OWNER THOMAS. You made our trip such a great memory, by answering our thousand-and-one questions, supporting us by booking amazing fair priced tours and just being there with your charismatic aura. We loved the authentic donkey trip through the dunes, which is one of the unique tours Jua offers. Thanks also to the whole team who always took care of us with a big smile and are well trained and managed. Be sure, to see us again! Greetings and love from Dubai.

I stayed here for 10 nights, one week alone and then my partned joined at the weekend. All the staff were welcoming, friendly and hugely helpful. The rooms were clean. There were communal areas for relaxing including tea and coffee and little fridges for storing water / food. Breakfast was amazing with fresh bread baked every morning. The beds were comfortable and bathrooms clean. The only watch out is that it can be VERY hot in Shela at night and the fans above the beds are not great at getting through the mosquito nets - your only saving grace is hoping there is a breeze at night. A wonderful place! I would stay again!

I was suspicious at first with all the very good comment of Jua House and everything is true. Jua House is a piece of heaven, a Paradise. From the decoration, food, rooms everything is well thought and well maintained and very clean. The staff John and his son Simon take proud of their work. The place is very quiet, I was able to enjoy a beautiful shower with a natural product body wash : Heaven. The place is at 5mins walk from the beach and far from the hustle and bustle of Lamu old town. I will come back for sure. Thank you Jua House.
