This is a really homely, lovely restored Palacio nestling in the quiet and peaceful hillside just 10 minutes off the main A67 south from Santander. We decided to stop here after seeing other reviews of people who used it as a stopover after getting off the Portsmouth/Santander ferry. Its very conveniently located if you are traveling South as its only about half an hour from Santander.
(However, a bit of caution trying to find it on Google maps/Tom Tom. Better to use the name of the town in the first part of the address ie: Tallard, or else you’ll end up in the middle of nowhere!)
Our booking was made on Expedia and at first they appeared not to know who were were, but eventually discovered the paperwork and gave us beautiful Bedroom No 1.
With balconies and views to the countryside off both sides it’s a lovely large room - very clean with a comfortable bed and for those who like a big Jacuzzi bath, there is one of these too.
Note that there is no restaurant but there are a couple of small places locally to get something to eat. Breakfast at the Palacia for 6 Euros is perfect!

We enjoyed a nice stay in this very nice hotel. The management was really friendly and helpful. The location is a bit away from everything but perfect for visiting several sights in the area. Only downside are the barking dogs in the village...

I have just returned from a week's stay at the Palacio Garcia and thought it was a brilliant little hotel. The room (in the loft for 4 people was neat, tidy and impeccably made up every day, the breakfast was nice, with some variations on offer every day, the bar was well stocked and the overall look and feel of the hotel was brilliant.
Fernando who was working all day everyday was just magic - very helpful, knowledgeable, and happy to help at any point of the day.
The location is good as it is in a quiet village, but close to the A67 road where most parts of Cantabria are 30-40 minutes away on average. Yes the village has barking dogs, goats with bells, and donkeys, but that is part of the village life in parts of Spain like this, and isn't a problem at all.
I would definitely return to this hotel if I am in the area again in the future.
Well done to the team at the hotel for a brilliant little place!!!

Although part of a chain, it feels like a one-off hotel, with large comfortable rooms and extremely effective shutters on the windows (i woke up "in the middle of the night" to discover it was 9:15 in the morning!). Decent breakfast and reasonable eateries within a short walking distance, and attractive grounds. Parking is in an adjacent public parking area. A good base for nearby paleolithic cave sites.
At the time of writing (16/9/2020) Tripadvisor is flagging this hotel as "temporarily closed" -- it isn't.

Used this hotel as a stopover after arriving on the Brittany Ferries service to Santander and before setting of on a motorcycle tour of the Picos range. It was a little difficult to find, and you have to trust your SatNav, but it is a delightful hotel - albeit in a very rural location being in a small village. Be aware that it does not have a restaurant so it was necessary to walk for 10/15 minutes into town (no riding as I was looking forward to a couple of beers). Here I found a small bar where it was possible to order a dinner despite it being quite late (after 10pm) when I got there. No English was spoken at the bar but it was easy enough to get a steak and chips - but that's another story! As for the hotel it has secure parking, with the courtyard locked at night, which was great for me as I was sure my motorcycle would be safe overnight. The hotel itself is a new build, but a lovely old style building with feature stone walls. The rooms are big with comfortable beds making a refreshing change from the usual hotel chains. All was in excellent condition and with a clean en-suite bathroom. No shower cubicle as such, but a bath with a shower curtain. Breakfast was OK if you know what I mean! As a stopover it was great, but it's remote location doesn't lend itself to longer stays - which is a pity as it is such a nice hotel otherwise. Finally, and most important, the staff were excellent - very friendly and helpful with sufficient English skills. Pity it is in such a quite village, but as a stopover before/after catching the Santader ferry it is well worth using - or as centre from which to explore the region.

This beautiful hotel is a refurbished country mansion and retains so much of the original character. We stayed in a corner double view large bedroom with two terraces overlooking fields and mountains. The nights were so quiet and the sleep was so good. The staff were all friendly and the breakfast buffet was good each morning. We booked the hotel to see Cantabria and the location was superb to visit places and come back to a nice quiet building.

Can't give it 4 stars as it has no restaurant, just a breakfast bar.
Having said that, we recommend wholeheartedly the Meson/Rincon de las Vinas, a 5-6 minute walk away. But there will be days when you wish you could just stroll downstairs to dinner, and here you can't.
But having a restaurant as well would mean running two businesses. Here they can concentrate on running just the one business, the hotel, and do it extremely well.
A beautiful building, set in pretty gardens (although they could get rid of the weeds round the fountain in the entrance courtyard . . .)
Our room was very large, with a four-poster bed and a bath. Yes, a big bath in the bedroom! There was another bath with a shower head in the beautifully clean bathroom. Very well furnished, as was the whole building, with lots of pretty decorative touches.
Both inside and out there are a number of attractive places to sit and read, including a small gazebo by the small pool.
It can be tricky getting there, try to avoid going through the tiny village of Tarriba with its narrow streets. Stay on the CA170a until you get to the church at San Felices de Buelna, then turn down the road by the side of the church. A right or left turn, depending which way you are arriving from, north or south.
There is no on-site parking, but next door is a public carpark used by visitors to the old folks' home and the park and picnic area. In a rural location, leaving your vehicle in a public carpark is a different kettle of fish from leaving it in a town, and this is definitely a low-crime rural area!
We really liked this hotel, it is now our number one favourite when arriving at Santander.

I was staying for 4 weeks in San Felices-business visit. I liked my stay in Palacio Garcia Quijano very much- it has a very detailed and nice ambiente and the staff is very helpful and always friendly. Also the Garden and the pool are very nice. I would definitely stay there again if I go to this region of Cantabria. Birgit

This hotel is ideally located for travelers arriving by ferry in Santander who intend on going south. It's located 10 minutes off of the motorway (40 mins from the port) but you would be forgiven for thinking that you had travelled back in time as the area is so peaceful and scenic, the most noise you will here is cow or goat bells!
The hotel itself is like a mini Parador, full of charm, clean and comfortable but at a much lower price. Unfortunately as we were out of season the restaurant wasn't open for dinner but the short walk into the village was extremely pleasant and the food at the local bar/bistro was more than adequate.
The only slight negative for ferry goers is that there is no secure parking, cars must be left in a communal car park some 50m away but the staff assured us that there are never any problems and it would be hard to believe that there would be in such a quite well kept hamlet.
Staff are very helpful and speak very good English if required.

A surprise awaits anyone who visits this gem of an hotel. Nice quality furnishings beds and bathrooms. A restaurant would be the only improvement I can think of. Lots of care has been taken aesthetically it's a real treat to visit.
