Nestled in a picturesque setting, Castlemartyr Resort is widely celebrated for its fusion of contemporary comforts and historic elegance. Guests often find themselves enamored with the scenic location, perfect for leisurely breaks and exploring nearby attractions. The spacious and pristine rooms receive high marks, although a few visitors suggest they could benefit from some refurbishment. While the service is typically regarded as warm and professional, instances of disorganization have been noted. Despite some concerns over value and amenity-related issues, the overall appeal of the resort's luxurious offerings and well-kept grounds remains high.

Our recent two day stay at Castlemartyr was definitely a five star experience. We felt welcome from the moment we arrived and this continued throughout the resort and for the duration of our stay. The team are dedicated to the comfort of their guests and go above and beyond to enhance their stay. We are already looking forward to our next visit.

Treated ourselves to three nights in August/September after our holiday abroad was cancelled. Stayed in a deluxe room which was really spacious and comfortable. The bathroom was also spacious and really well laid out with separate toilet and shower rooms. Shower was great! The room was exceptionally clean and gave us confidence that the hotel was serious about Covid-19 precautions.

Breakfast was very well organised and the hotel had no problem coping with large numbers at rush hour with comfortable spacing between tables.

We ate in the main restaurant on one night and the bar on two nights and this was also well organised with no waiting for tables and comfortable spacing. The only negative in the bar was slightly limited menu options and sometimes small portion sizes. (The beef curry was really small with very little beef.) The ice cream cone on the bar menu is a simple but nice idea.

The hotel has made good use of the space available to create a relaxing atmosphere where you can always find a place to relax. Room service seemed to be starting again but unfortunately we just missed this.

Good job in the circumstances. Will be back.

My partner and I decided to stay at the Castlemartyr Resort for 2 nights in February 2020. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel most welcome. The polish lady (apologies I never got her name) who greeted us on checkin handled our reservation seamlessly and handed us 2 glasses of prosecco along with our keycard and room details.

As it was late when we arrived I needed to park the car myself which was about a 3 minute walk from the hotel entrance. This might be an issue for someone with mobility issues especially at night in bad weather. My advice would be not to arrive as late as we did and avail of the valet service like we did when we were leaving and George our valet couldn't have been nicer.

Our hotel room was very clean, spacious and finished to a very high standard with a beautiful modern bathroom which contained a shower, bath and his and hers sinks. A bottle of prosecco and card greeted us for our anniversary. A lovely personal touch which was a welcomed surprise after the journey. The bed was very comfortable and ensured a great nights sleep when combined with the blackout curtains.

In the bar on our first night Patrick our barman was very professional, friendly and knowledgeable and made us feel at ease. He answered our questions regarding activities in Cork and helped us in picking our wine.

The following morning at breakfast, Trevor (the Guest Relations Manager) showed us to our lovely table beside the window and was very personable and attentive.
There was a great selection of cold items for the continental breakfast. The hot breakfast on the other hand was quite disappointing considering the standard of the hotel. I had a full Irish which I felt wasn't fresh and my partner had the eggs Benedict which she felt was cold and rubbery.

The spa that afternoon was quite busy but well equipped with sauna, pool, steam room and jacuzzi all of which were quite clean.

Our dinner that night was in the Bell Tower restaurant and again we couldn't have been made feel more welcome and at ease. Our sommelier recommend a beautiful bottle of wine to accompany our meal which was delicious from start to finish. The piano playing and candlelit white table cloths really added to the ambiance. My only negative from the meal was that we felt the courses came out quite quickly and could have been spaced out by another 5/10 minutes.

Overall a very enjoyable and memorable stay and we hope to return again in the future.

Where do I begin. We arrived at Castlemartyr on Monday last got to our rooms which I have to admit were very comfortable.
We set in the Knights bar for lunch where we were given a dirty wine glass which we asked to be changed and we watched the bar man empty the contents from the dirty glass into a clean one.
They were out of Club Orange after the weekend but as the week progressed still no club orange.
We looked for a table that night at the Knights bar and no table, tried the club house no table so they said we can go to the library so we did where we sat for 1 hr waiting to be served.
Eventually got served and waited a further 45 mins for food which was cold. Kids could not get food from the terrace and eat with us due to cross contimation although they were re using the same menus from one person to another.
When it came to paying they took my card from our table and 20 mins later I had to go look for my card where it was sitting on the bar for all to see.
The following morning we got to breakfast where to make a long story short our hot food was freezing, had to ask for milk and sugar for cereals repeating our order numerous times. 1 pancake on a plate for a child again reusing menus from one family to the nxt asking for extra brown bread and 1 slice been brought out.
The staff had no training the left hand didn't know what the right hand was doing.
Spoke to one manager on the phone who offered us a meal at the fine dining restaurant when we went to book no table available untill after 9pm.
Rooms not serviced and when we asked were told you had to hang the sign on the door if you wanted your room serviced. We were never told this.
The manager avoided us in the Knights bar rather than asking if things had improved, the only person who acknowledged us was Trevor and everyone else ignored us although we were there for 4 days.
It's a sad state of affairs when you pay 1695e for a 5 star stay with little or no service and complain with no joy.
Should I say as a gesture of good will 10% is to be refunded on of the bill which had to be paid upfront.
I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Spent 2 nights in the Castlemartyr Redort in early September in a Junior Suite as I was planning on poppong the question while away so I wanted something really nice but what I actually got was so much more than I had expected . From the second you step into the lobby you’re made to feel so welcome , check in was a breeze and the walk to the room was even enjoyable which is strange I know .
We ate and had drinks in the Knights Bar and it was so comfortable in the big armchairs we didn’t want to move . We strolled the grounds both days and used the pool/fitness centre both days . Even in these strange times with Covid a simple phone call was all it took to be given a time slot and book in .
It wouldn’t be fair to single out any particular staff member because each and everyone of them we encountered spoke to you like they knew you , simple greeting followed by a chat and off they went , I can’t praise them highly enough .
Like the title says this place is simply a 10 out of 10 in every aspect . Will most definitely be returning hopefully before 2020 is out . We’ve added this Resort to our list of wedding venues options so at least we have a great excuse to get back down for another stay .

We checked out after our 1st night of what should have been a 4 night stay.

This hotel has such potential with elements of The K Club, Kellys and Dromoland all rolled into one .
However, it is unloved, neglected and needs a really deep clean.

The rooms are huge. If they were clean they would be great.

Our carpet had stains . My daughter asked me if it could be poo but I reasoned that it was near the tea/coffee maker so most likely coffee stains.

The net curtains also had brown stains.
I reasoned they were at toddler level so probably chocolate stains.

The rooms need a deep clean as did the entire hotel.
Even the lightbulbs in our were covered in dust as if never cleaned after the lockdown .

The beds were lovely and comfortable . To be fair they were really great.

The lawn is beautiful and to sit out in the sunshine there is lovely but the area is let down by serving food in take away boxes. It just doesn’t serve the lawn justice. Pizza in a pizza box and roast beef in a sandwich box doesn’t work well at all. The quality of the food was dreadful.

If they thought of a quirky cool way to do so maybe they could get away with it but they way they do it is just cheap and nasty.

If you get a good deal and ring ahead requesting a clean room you may be lucky.

The staff are doing the best that they can under the circumstances but to be honest I think it’s a sinking ship.

The icing on the cake was after checking out in Thursday we got a call on Sunday afternoon from reception asking were we ready to check out and had we enjoyed our stay!

The receptionist was flummoxed when I explained we had checked out before breakfast on Thursday and that the manager had personally checked us out with the reception staff . She had no idea we had left the hotel!

Negatives: It is a soulless, huge, scruffy unloved neglected building that has huge potential.

Positives: The staff are trying their best.
The resort could be outstanding.

We recently stayed in Castlemartyr Resort for my husband’s 40th birthday. I searched high and low for a dog friendly hotel that would meet our requirements (direct access to the outside from the room, plenty of space for walks, no ridiculous deposits) and definitely found it here. From the time of booking the reservations team were incredibly helpful and accommodating. When we arrived at the resort the valet/porter was so excited to see our dog, like he was a valued guest too! From the moment we got there we were greeted with such warmth and friendliness by all staff. There is a wonderful vibe of relaxation and ease around the place while also maintaining its 5 star service. The hotel is beautifully designed and maintained, there is a tasteful link between the old and new buildings. It is very big without feeling imposing. The room itself was perfect for us. It was a ground floor room with its own private garden area from which you could access the rest of the grounds. Sparkling clean dog bowls were provided with a bag of doggy treats. Nice touch! The hotel had also very generously left a bottle of Prosecco and chocolate dipped strawberries along with a birthday card for my husband. We were thrilled with this lovely gesture. The room was very spacious, well equipped with an oversized bathroom and very comfortable bed. The grounds are beautiful for walks. We didn’t have dinner there but breakfast was super and the waiting staff continued the trend of friendly and helpful service. The gym and pool are also great, as it was midterm there were plenty of kiddies around so it’s family friendly too. I would highly recommend Castlemartyr - for families, couples, girls weekends, dedicated dog owners - it has it all. We will definitely be back.

Beautiful property in nice location in East Cork but not good value for money and not a proper 5 star resort. Food offering is very poor, the bar menu is limited and the quality of the dishes on offer is disappointing. Garden terrace is dreadful, with food served in cardboard boxes for some Covid 19 related reason that doesn’t make any sense. Service is generally very poor with too many young and disinterested members of staff. Additional towels not provided during a 4 night stay in the lodges and when requested staff sought a €25 fee! TV and dishwasher in lodge didn’t work properly. On the positive side, the golf course is really great and well maintained.

First impressions are everything…. when we first arrived to check in we were met with a welcoming receptionist however I was immediately advised that we owed x amount even though we had paid upfront when booking. It turned out their systems were down (& she was referring to a printed sheet) however rather than asking had we paid upfront the receptionist sought payment without hesitation (we had booked directly with the hotel). We were booked into a self catering mews for two nights during the first week in November. We arrived at around 2.30pm and advised that our house would not be available until 4pm which is a little bit on the late side especially when check out is at 10am. We did get access just after 3pm. The Mews were more than adequate for our needs and kept very clean albeit they look a little tired on the outside and need to be painted. I do think the potholes and lack of lighting in the Mews entrance/car park area are disappointing and should rectified ASAP . In regards to food the breakfast was good every morning (we had to pay separately as we were in the Mews and had no issue with this), the seafood chowder in the Knights Bar was top notch, the coffees were very poor (an investment in a decent coffee machine would be a good idea), the food in Twelve Ten was good but a little overpriced and the restaurant is probably a little on the small side to cater for the numbers at the weekend. We had booked the pool early both mornings for an hour however were asked on the second morning to exit 15 mins early, this should be advised when booking. I would like to say that all staff members that we encountered were professional and willing to assist at all times. In general terms, the Resort is one which I would recommend to family/friends & while we will return in the future I do feel with some slight improvements Castlemartyr have a great product on their hands in the family holiday market.

My partner and I stayed here last weekend with our 5 month old. We stated in the junior suite which was very comfortable. We used the swimming pool, walked the grounds and had breakfast the following morning.
Room was quite nice but floors certainly need attention with a lot of scratches throughout living room and bedroom.

There was no bath in our room which was disappointing and just one sink (I believe the picture used on the website shows a double sink and bathroom) I planned to use the second sink to sterilise baby bottles but no big deal as the staff provided me with a large bowl.

Also, no Netflix which I found surprising for a 5 star hotel...YouTube was available but we couldn't get it working.

The bed was extremely comfortable but actually 2 small beds pushed together.
Breakfast the next morning was fine, nothing overly tasty and not worth €25 with a Centra down the road.

The staff were marvellous and my partner and I both commended them, super helpful and loads of attention to our baby which is always nice.

Our car was parked for us which was really helpful as we had so much luggage.
I did request early check in but unfortunately this was not possible on the day, no big deal but would have been nice just had to entertain baby around the lobby.

Overall, we really enjoyed our stay. I will return and next time, I will request a garden view room and larger bathroom if available.
I hope to return in the summer when the weather is warmer as the gardens are very impressive at Castlemartyr.

Bar was first-come-first-served when we stayed at the end of August. We stayed mid-week and never had to wait more than a few minutes and we were able to take a seat either on the garden terrace or indoors while we waited.
