I arrived late after traveling most of the day and attending a meeting in Welshpool, a room had been booked for me and I had the name and a postcode only. 10.30pm I got there and the place was in darkness, I tried the front door and it was open, I entered and was faced with 2 doors I knocked on them both, no answer. I called out several times, then a guest came downstairs, I explained the situation and he also tried to get a response from the other door, which was locked, then he said "the room opposite his was empty and we could see if it was open. it was so i got my bag thinking I would explain everything to the owner in the morning. Next morning I was up at 8 and took my bag to my car, where I saw the owner, "Good morning" I said and all I got was "Did you stop here last night"? I explained everything and his vile little wife popped up asking if I often wandered into peoples houses and got into their beds? They tried to tell me that they had been up at the time I arrived but I knew as did the guest who I had met the night before that this was a complete lie. They told me I could not have breakfast as I had not ordered any, I said "right, I will just pay for the room and get going" £50 she charged me. I would never consider sending anybody to these horrible people. I work for an internet television company and we will be doing a production from Welshpool, a full crew for up to 8 weeks starting in September. Guess where we will not be staying.

I endorse what the previous reviewer wrote (and which I relied on when making my choice for our (too) short break in Mid Wales). The farmhouse is really pretty; you are made to feel very welcome - the owners really do have plenty of time for you; and the breakfast is great. Definitely much much better than many other places (particularly those larger impersonal places!). We were the only guests on this visit (there are 3 double/twin rooms) and as guests stay on one side of the house, it was like having our own house. The only downside is the busy A road the farm is off but you mustn't let that put you off. The bedroom was quiet and it is very convenient and easy to find.

What a beautiful place! Although only a short distance from Welshpool this hotel/bed and breakfast is on a working farm and surrounded by fields full of sheep with beautiful views from every window. The hotel is in a very old timber framed farmhouse with beamed rooms and a wonder ful large inglenook fireplace in the dining room. I should imagine it would be a cosy spot in Winter! There is apparently a good golf course nearby which my husband would have loved to play! My double room, although not huge, was very well furnished with good quality bed linen. The ensuite shower room was spotlessly clean and equipped with plenty of fluffy towels and attractive toiletries. Little touches such as the provision of a hair dryer, free bottled water and a well stocked tea and coffee tray were welcome. The owner of the hotel could not have been more welcoming and friendly and the breakfast provided was better than I have had in many a 4 or 5* hotel. Fresh juice, yogurts, cereals, porridge plus wonderful full Welsh breakfast and masses of toast with Welsh butter. A perfect way to start the day. Parking was easy even for someone with a larger sized car. I thoroughly recommend Middle Sylfaen for your stay in this beautiful part of Wales.
