#2 of 6 Specialty lodging in Sablayan
A special resort with dive shop and training center for CMAS diving courses in Sablayan, far away from the beaten tourist tracks. And a lot of kilometers long, lonely, beautiful silver palm beach. The Majority of the premises is covered by palms and other exotic plants, and there is a view of the sea from almost anywhere. Embedded in this scenery, you will be Accommodated amongst the palms in clean, good-quality and comfortable bungalows or rooms with a shower and WC situated Directly on the deserted, endlessly long beach. We offer exploring inland, as well as many sporting activities on land and water on. A highlight is a dive trip to the world famous Apo Reef or dive safaris.

We had an amazing Apo reef trip with tons of reef sharks, barracuda tornado and a hammerhead! The resort itself is very nice. Fan bungalows are tidy and comfortable and the beach is long, empty and perfect for swimming. The staff is professional and Gustav is hearthwarmingly kind.

Stayed in the AC bungalow (for 2200 pesos) for 2 nights. The bungalow is bit further from the beach but the AC worked fine and the beds were good for sleep. However, toilet paper was missing and the overall quality of mor expensive AC bungalows could be improved. The food is plenty and overall tasteful, however, nearby restaurant at El Paraiso serves better food for lower price. The resort ACCEPTS only CASH in Philippine Pesos. Wi-fi is good but is working only in restaurant. Nearby beach is black sand, but it is extremely clean and picturesque. We took the liveaboard trip (2D1N) that was 15000 PHP for a diver (6 dives) and 5000 PHP for a snorkeler. There were four of us (3 divers and 1 snorkeler) on the boat together with a crew of 2 dive-master, 1 captain, 1 cook (food was provided at the boat and at the evening you can get a few bottles of San Miguel) and 2 supporting staff. Yes, I agree with the previous reviews that the dive-masters were not super experienced, but they were attentive for our need underwater. I liked shark airport (saw 10 sharks) and the Japanese WW2 wreck dive sties. so I think that the APO reef is slightly inferior to the comparable dive sites of Sipadan, Komodo and Raja Ampat where I previously dived. So do not expect to see lots of coral gardens and reef (it is somehow less preserved and suprising destroyed in some places) but the fish was plentiful. Overall: I can recommed the GUSTAV resort and their trips. However, I think that both the resort and the trips could be improved considering that it is quite expensive.

People working there are very laid back. I had to come few times to be sure that I was on the next trip. I had a dive computer to sale and they told me the owner was not interested, but in fact she was, because she asked me later. They were just too lazy to ask her the first time I came. Too bad for them, I sold it a good price to Sablayan divers... Then we wanted to do camping on the Apo island. They first said no, but we insisted because it saw in the reviews that it was possible. In fact, we found out that the camping equipment was a mess and that they were just lazy to fix it. I noticed some pieces of regulators here and there not assembled. The day before we went to the 2 days trip, some "dive masters" came to buy alcool in my accommodation. The next day, obviously, one of them was not ready on time because he was still drank. This is the same guy that customers had problems because of bad dive management the next day... This day, the 2 groups were diving toghether on a beautiful dive spot. A lot of pelagic fish and turtle everywhere. We spend the first 20 mn looking all this life, and for some reasons we dont know, the 2 "dive masters" decided to kick agains the current in a deep area and were there was obviously nothing to see. They did not care that their customers could not follow because the stream was too strong. All the life was on our back... After this dive, I was mad because of the bad dive management that cheated the dive. I told them. And I was right... Instead of resting on the boat after this exhausting dive. They decided to go on the island. There was just a small canoe to bring us there and they did not want to go with the big one. The same dive master did not know how to row, so some of us decided to swim. A little bit later, one of the customers had a problem. There was some symptoms of deco sickness. To make it short, we had to handle the situation because the "dive masters" and all the local people looked panicked and obviously had no clue about what to do. As a dive master and the other French woman that was instructors, we were shocked about the lack of knowledge to handle the situation. They did not know what to do. Luckily for the American woman, and his British compagnon, we did the first aid and organised the first aid and the evacuation of the island to the hospital with the coast guards and their speedboat. About the diving, we did 2 to 6 that were good, the others were poor in fish and coral. I dont think Apo reef is world class anymore...

We stayed 5 days at Gustav's place and Gustav and his staff made sure that everything was memorable. It is a beautiful lush tropical resort. Pandan island trips are easily arranged by Gustav. Good massage available, excellent local food. It was paradise

Very good quality - price My friend and I were there for 5 days. We did an awesome live aboard with them. Really good experience. Stuffs are really nice (at Gustav’s and also at the boat) and good master divers. It is important to highlight that there were 3 master divers for 6 divers. At Gustav’s every is quiet and calm. Simple and nice cottages in front of the beach. Great atmosphere.
