Detailed Reviews
When one first arrives in Manila it's easy to think that the whole of Luzon is one big traffic jam! However, once out of the city the country side opens up to pastoral views and surprisingly good roads that will carry you north towards the tiny coastal town of Santa Ana, well known for it's unspoiled beaches as well as a thriving small casino industry.
Just before arriving at the town center (really just a conglomeration of shops, market stalls and a restaurant serving huge portions of all kinds of freshly caught seafood) is the little piece of heaven known as the Avalon Beach Club. Set right on it's own private beach in an immaculately laid out garden setting, Avalon offers full sized bungalows with AC, wi-fi and satellite TV as well as an on site restaurant. Owners Ross and Lisa made us feel incredibly welcome and when a van we had hired to take us on a local tour had to cancel last minute, Lisa stepped up and took us for a 2 hour tour in her own vehicle. Attention to customer service and guest relations doesn't get much better than that!
If you are looking for peace and tranquility in a lush garden setting with a wonderful, unspoiled beach front location without the tourist crush of a place like Boracay, then look no farther than the Avalon Beach Club...you will be glad you did.
Oh...and BTW, as we were leaving Ross and Lisa were preparing to host a 400 person wedding the following week so the resort also would be ideal for any large family gathering or corporate function you can think of!

The first time i saw Avalon was when i first went to Sta Ana last March or February. The Van passed by Avalon and listed it as another Resort to try.
For this December trip i decided to try Avalon and here is my review.
Location: Avalon is located quite far from the Port or 12km away.
Check In: Check In was fast and efficient
The Room: the Room is very spacious. It had 2 beds, a King (With Mosquitoe Net) and Queen. There is a Sofa Bed too. There is a Mini Ref, 32" TV with DVD. The Room was just perfect and had a very comfortable stay.
The Bathroom: though water pressure was not that strong, the bathroom featured a toilet with Bidet!
Food: food was good. All the dishes i ordered were good.
Staff: Very friendly and efficient. From the Waiters, Front Desk to Security. Commendation to Jenny who was not only friendly but also efficient in her work.
Overall: it was a most enjoyable staff. I had 2 nights of good sleep and could not ask for anything more.

On my second time around in the Philippines, I came to Avalon Beach in Santa Ana ...
I have been in 19 different countries around the world, I am a Canadian, Quebecer and American …
I sell vacation for living, by the way … but at Avalon Beach resort, I have received a treatment that was way better than I was expecting and that, all the way around …
I rarely write reviews … but this team deserves it to say the least!
Starting with the owner Ross … he was friendly from the minute we got there … also a world traveller, which I alway appreciate, since I found interesting to share different countries knowledge …
He was a very good host, always asking me if everything was all right, and was quick to help with my daily needs … he even inquired about us while he was away on a business trip to Thailand … he called and make sure we were doing good …
I am a very demanding client/guest … I am what we called, high maintenance ! and all t
Chris is the general manager and … HE si THE BEST …
This young man has amazed me more than one time … I asked him all kinds of things and some of the things I asked, were not vacation related and he would quickly find a solution and get back with me in a timely fashion … He was able to think outside the box in many occasions!
The compound is just gorgeous, it is indeed, the best in Santa Ana, hands down!
The lawn is constantly manicured by a full staff, making sure nothing is out of its place and plants/trees all look at their best …
The accommodations are cottage style, build with high standards, solid wood doors, bed and furnitures … these cottage all have 4 sets of patio sliding doors in case you would want to have it all opened at ounce and have a 180 degree view … with high ceilings throughout … lots of windows which means very well lighten … we just have great feelings with high ceiling and all surrounded by 8 foot patio doors …
Th bathrooms are outstanding … the showers glass doors are top notch quality …
Never seen in the Philippines ….
The servers were so sweet … Donna, Jeanie, and I forgot the names of the 2 other male servers, but they were all top servers … courteous, respectful and efficient at all occasions … they would all go out of their ways to make you happy !!!
If I would be a hotel/restaurant owner, these are the type of employees I would want to serve my clients …
I highly recommend this resort for it is the best in Santa Ana ….

This is a hidden gem in the northern philippines. Stayed here for couple of days with my whole family. Room was great which can accommodate up to 6 adults. Bathroom was ok as water pressure is not too much. Ate all our meals from the restaurant. Though they dont have much of breakfast choices, you can customized according to your palette. our villa is overlooking a garden towards the sea. downside is there is no resort activities and swimming pool.

Thank you for your review and we are pleased you have 'discovered' Avalon Beach Club. Since your stay in April we have expanded the breakfast menu so hopefully you will find the item of your choice. Also before your next stay we may well have completed our 'walk-in' casino featuring an array of card table games, slot machines and sports betting lounge (the only such 'walk-in' casino in Cagayan Valley). We are also in the process of starting work on our swimming pool. Just a taste of the many things to come ......... hope to see you again soon.

Our Partial Sea View room, # 8 Lobster, was very elegant and spacious. We had 1 king size bed, a full size sofa bed, flat screen TV and refrigerator. The towels, sheets, comforter and pillows were luxury quality. The room was clean. The bathroom was not the typical Philippine bathroom. It was clean and modern with a large shower. Toiletries were provided, as was a hair dryer. A coffee pot and cups were in our room. A pitcher of fresh water was delivered. We enjoyed the view of the sea and islands from our porch.
The grounds are very well landscaped with many varieties of plants. The beach sand is clean. The shaded beach lounges were comfortable. So relaxing.
The restaurant menu had Filipino and Western dishes. The bar was well stocked. Seating was available indoors and outside on terraces shaded by bamboo and palms.
Fishing boats to hire were very near. The tropical islands just offshore are all that can be imagined. Two seasons of the US TV show Survivor were shot there.
Services were all top notch. The owners were on site. Very personable hosts.
Our enjoyment on this get-a-way beat our visit to El Nido, Palawan hands down.
We will be returning.

Nice place with a nice beach. Very quiet there not much to do in the immediate area. The food at the restaurant was very good. I would definitely come back. They were in a remodel upgrade so maybe next time there will be a nice casino.

While we were working our entire stay in Santa Ana (filming the BVR International Womanes Invitational Volleyball Tournament), to get up in the morning and see the grey sand beach and go for an early morning swim before breakfast.....and to return at night to the smiling staff of the Avalon Beach Resort was truly a joy!!! The rooms....the staff.....the food....the rooms....and the beach were EXCELLENT!!!!

We rented two Ocean facing rooms on May 28 and three rooms on May 29. We brought family and friends from Manila and Aparri to "share the moment" with us as we celebrated our 14th wedding anniversary on the 29th. The rooms were more than adequate for 6 guests to a room as the beds were large with comfortable mattresses and pillows, quiet, well performing air conditioners, reliable wi-fi and flat screen tv's. The one draw back were the bath rooms--all have an odor with little ventilation, no shower hand rails and the shower head is fixed and cannot be removed to adequately rinse of the soap. There is also no soap dish at the wash basin. The grounds and beach are superb. Our main shock was the food and beverage---The waiters and waitresses are slow to to come to the table and the food is even slower and served in segments. We quickly learned that any parties over 4 meant food was served separately and not at one time--food came before salads, no one ever received the food at the same time--we tried and tried to find a positive in the food and beverage but with the exception of their sodas, we were unable to. We ordered Crab but there was no fat or meat, we ordered and were charged for) Prawns but were served "over cooked" (and dry) 20/25 count Shrimp--- the list of poorly prepared and served foods goes on and on---Even the dirty plates etc sat unattended until one of us would personally approach a waiter and request their removal. Upon check out, the front desk tried to over charge us by P400 and we had to object and prove that we were quoted P4300 a day instead of P4500. The owners are very nice and friendly as is the entire staff-however it is so very clear that there has been and is, no training of the staff and that the cooks are inexperienced or just plain uneducated as to food preparing, food presentation, portion control and serving. I wish I could be more positive about the food and beverage but I cannot. Avalon Beach Resort promotes itself as a world class resort and due to the food and beverage, that is a TOTAL fabrication. There is also no gift shop or snack shop. We regret that we feel compelled to advise and warn readers of our experience as it is obvious to me that the two current comments were resort generated.......

Dear Mr and Mrs Hicks, Thank you for taking the time to review as we believe that through feedback we are able to zero in on those areas that need our attention or where customers feel improvement is needed. In this regard we will will look at installing a hand rail in the showers and also a more adjustable shower nozzle. The odor you mentioned was as you know addressed within minutes of your arrival and was a simple plumbing adjustment. Your comments about food and beverage though surprise us greatly. You refer to prawns and crabs when in fact it was Mr Hicks who personally sought out one of the owners to say how much he enjoyed the prawns and crabs and he was surprised how inexpensive it was. As for staff attention, this concerns us greatly as we pride ourselves on attentive staff --- we have checked with all our staff on duty and none of them recall your party having to request clearing of of used dishes. Your party was 12 pax, increased to 19 pax on the 29th and you had at least double that number of vistors during your stay. Despite this we believe all your guests, both resident and ad hoc visitors, were treated in a proper and complete way. Not once during your stay was ANY complaint raised which given your written comments we find quite surprising and almost unbelievable. Mr Hicks actually paid for the rooms on check-in and we had already given him a discounted rate of 4500 PHP and when he asked for a further discount we gladly agreed to a rate of 4300 PHP. This was all done at check in and Mr Hicks paid for each meal at the time the meal was consumed so there was NO SETTLEMENT or request for monies at check-out. Thus we do not understand at all what the reviewer is talking about. As you are probably aware, Trip Advisor, Agoda and Booking.com are all VERY careful to list only bona fide reviews only. Your review is the ONLY one from all of these sources that lists these concerns you have raised. Therefore your suggestions that other reviews have been falsified is somewhat fanciful. I can only assume that given the inaccuracies included the review and the strongly negative conclusion, that we have upset the reviewer in some way during their stay and we find this most regrettable. It is a pity they did not talk to us whilst they were here if that was the case.
