Kiteboarding at an uncrowded beach Anino Kite Retreat is the best accommodation on Cuyo Island with three cottages and four double rooms located at the most beautiful beach. With onshore wind slightly from the left side, our 400 meters of private sand beach is the perfect spot for kiteboarding/kitesurfing. Kiteboarding lessons at the Anino Kite Resort Kitesurfing is an easy sport to learn. You only need a few days of lessons to be able to ride. Our team consists of qualified and professional kite instructors. We provide basic kiteboarding / kitesurfing lessons by experienced teacher.
We took the ferry from Iloilo because it was shorter (12-hrs) compared to Palawan (18-hrs) on good weather. Iloilo also has international airport with direct flight to Singapore so it was convenient. We traveled on amihan season and the long ferry ride made me a bit uncomfortable (seasick) but the moment we arrived in Anino it was like paradise. Very private, only 3 cottages means we are spoiled with attention from Victoria & her staff. All our meals throughout our entire 2 wks stay was prepared personally by Victoria after I told her our meal requirements because my partner is on strict fresh food diet -- no meat, low carb, no frying, plenty of fish & veggies, fruits, no oil & sugar. My partner & I fell in love with our first meals so we stopped ordering & asked her to just surprise us everyday with freshest produce from the sea & her garden. It was wonderful, we have never eaten so healthy yet so yummy. I even asked for recipes of curry fish & salad dressings so I can replicate at home for my partner. We planned only to laze around for 2-wks reading & writing because the peaceful island makes it very conducive for deep concentration activities like writing, but eventually we were magnetized by the sight of kite surfers literally flying by as we watch from our terrace, so my partner signed up for lessons. I plan to take lesson when we return coz we will definitely be back. No strong amihan winds or long ferry trip will keep us away. It was worth it to get to Cuyo. Wonderful people we met on our motorcyle rides around the island, so friendly, simple & open to visitors. I hope it stays the same. We already miss fresh coconut drinks we had everyday. And sweet mangoes too. White sand beach was nice for walks and collecting exotic shells. Thank you Victoria & Anino staff for making our stay just perfect!!!

Those that are lucky enough to stay here will have an excellent time!
The staff are friendly, the food is awesome, & the proximity to the beach is about 20 steps!
For kiters - wind is cross shore, it is right on your door step (very handy, especially for lunch), it is a bit shallow at low tide, bring booties for urchins if you are learning/ putting your feet down, there is a reef break for waves. The staff watch out and land your kite - how spoilt can you get? Its great!
For all travellers - book ahead, check with the owners on the ferry schedule and build in extra time upon leaving. Also no foreign ATM which accepts visa/ mastercard etc on the island, so bring cash!

we spent 5 nights here kitesurfing. Absolutely wonderful holiday. Ferry journey was long (17hrs) overnight but comfortable. We slept on top deck - pretty comfortable with mattresses. Ulrich organised someone to meet us off the plane at Puerto Princesa and he looked after us until the ferry. The retreat itself really is a 'retreat!' clean and comfortable cottages (only 3), beautifully designed with lovely outside private bathroom. we had the lagoon to ourselves and was perfect to learn KS. My boyfriend had the opportunity to get his jumps sorted on the waves at the edge of the reef. perfect holiday for all - but if you're KS / windsurfer lovers - can't believe there is anywhere better! Victoria's cooking fantastic and all the staff smiley and extremely helpful.

The retreat is set in a very nice beach. It's quite isolated so not crowded. There are several types of accommodation. The bungalows are large and have a beautiful traditional architecture and are facing the ocean. The food prepares by Victoria is really good, enough quantity, tasty and changes everyday. Victoria does her best so everyone feel well. The local staff is helpful and really nice, always smiling. As a kitesurf destination is perfect, good wind during the season and flat water some meters from the bungalows. The staff working on the beach make sure everyone is safe. On the other hand wifi didn't work many times or was extremely slow, and electricity is only provided from 5:30pm to 10:30pm, but this is really not an issue while on holidays. Anino has all the ingredients for a marvelous stay. However the man in charge of reservations made our stay really unpleasant. I payed the whole reservation in advance. As we arrived to the hotel the first thing he mentioned was the money we owed him because his bank charges also him a transfer fee (as my bank did to me). Then he asked me to make another deposit for the food I would consume during my stay. When I suggested that was not the best way to take care of the guests, to my surprise he just asked us to leave the place. We were shocked by his reaction but fortunately Victoria arranged it. As we discussed with the other guests which had to go through the same rude manners, the place is run like if it was his own home rather than a resort. So on in all that ruined in a our holiday. Even if all the rest including all the other staff members, is fantastic I wouldn't go back because I spent too much time and energy arguing. There are many island and hotels in the Philippines, it's not worth to spend it in such an unwelcoming company.

If you want an exclusive place to stay. Without hundreds of other tourists with your own private beach and wonderfull house right at the beach. Go to quijano! Victoria is the best host you can wish for. She is a wonderful cook and a very nice person. Cuyo itself is a wonderful place. Beautiful island. Nice and windy, nice people. The only bad thing about our stay there was that we started with Cuyo and we could compare al the other places to quijano. Even de 5 star hotels are not a match voor Quijano!

Anino was perfect in every way! Our room was beautiful, spacious, and very comfortable! The food was just incredible. Victoria is an amazing cook along with really fun and interesting to talk to. The beach area is perfectly suited for any type of person, whether you just want to relax, plat, kite, or swim. The kite boarding was great. You feel like you are alone at a luxurious place with ocean front views from every location. Words don't really describe how lovely, comfortable and well taken care of Anino makes you feel!

We arrived from Puerto on the new Air Juan flight from Puerto Princesa and were met by the most helpful and kind staff. We were spirited away and a tall cool mango shake awaited us. We checked in , finished the formalities and were escorted to the most beautiful bungalow I have seen since Bali in the 80's Gorgeous outdoor shower... Hot water, Tea , Coffee, and Ovalmaltine anytime. Definitely the most romantic place we stayed. Lots of places to lounge and rest... Cool ocean breezes blowing in off of the balcony which overlooks a beach that we spent lots of time walking on. This is a kiteboarding resort alhough we are not kiters we enjoyed a energetic man learning the craft. I just wanted to emphasize how beautiful the house we stayed in was. We stayed in Philippine Cottage. My husband is a builder and we spent time discussing the beauty and the detail Ulirich and Victoria put into the creation of this resort. Great shells on the beach We rented a motorcycle with helmuts from them and toured the island everyday of our 4 days here. Cuyo is a great place and I cannot recommend it enough. Next time we'll take the ferry but we enjoyed the small plane we flew on. Flying over tropical islands was a dream come true. For the grand finale..... Victoria.... her grace, kindness, and beauty.... What a sweetie.... And of course her food. Which everyone has written about and with good reason. She is a phenomenal chef... Thai, Philippine, European, and like Amun Ini Resort in Bohol she makes a killer hamburger. We look forward to going back and who knows maybe we'll take up kiting. I also wanted to compliment the staff everyone was so helpful and kind... We get up early 5:30 and we always had hot water so we could gaze out on the sunset or sunrise and the full moon rise over the ocean will never be forgotten

We are used to travel on the Asian continent but this year, we really had a crush discovering the Philippines and specially, a little piece of paradise on the island of Cuyo. We are Kitesurfing amateurs and we have been able to ride every day just in front of our bungalow, on a beautiful lagoon with a perfectly oriented and safety wind. But the most, is the beautifulness of the place we've stayed in, the architecture of the buildings are in accordance with the environment and respect nature. The refined rooms are nice and comfortable. The owners are lovely, simple, generous, passionated and they treat you more like friends than clients. Just a last few words on Victoria's cooking, she does anything she can to please you. She is really talented and there is nothing better than having dinner on the beach every night, waiting for the “Chef's” surprise. Thank you both, we will soon be back. Eric and Pat

What a wonderful week spent with Victoria, Ulrich and all their friendly staff. We were lucky : wind all the week (even in april , supposed to be the end of the wind season), so we could kite alone in Victoria's beach lagoon and go upwind to the other fantastic lagoon just above north. 3 days with around 25 knots and 2 days with 15/20 knots, perfect. There is always someone to help us on the beach and thanks Arturo for the kite repair. The rooms are clean and confortable with a fantastic view. Food is excellent, Victoria prepared something different every day, with fresh fish, seafood and vegetables. It was our second stay there and certainly not the last.

For kite surfers who like a quiet, uncrowded resort to just concentrate on their sport, eat good food, and relax the rest of their time in very beautiful accomodation. The landscaping is well done with flowers and plants. The staff is professional and very nice. We had pleasure meeting Ulrich & Victoria. Don't miss Victoria's famous burger! The Anino Resort on the sleepy little island of Cuyo is one of these places where you feel a privileged guest ... not just a client!
