Absolute paradise! Immaculate grounds and pool in a very lush garden full of beautiful plants, flowers and animals. The Hacienda and rooms are lovely restored, well kept and decorated. You really feel one with nature as there is a 3.2 km trail within the hacienda. Garden, pool and dining area are absolutely lovely! Dinner and breakfast were nice.
Positives- Great forest location with interesting trail (easy and well signed) to see birds/butterflies etc Excellent friendly hard working and helpful staff Good food We had to move rooms due to termite damage to our original room which was offered immediately without question. This was an upgraded room which was more spacious and very clean. Negatives- No menus due to being offered a choice of two main course dishes ie fish or meat and the price of which you will have ask for. However the food is delicious. The hard working staff do their best but have far too much to do to keep the place up to a desired standard. This was evidenced by:- The cistern in our first room would not flush, This was mentioned to the waiter (who seemed to be the guy that held the whole place together) when serving our first course who promptly went down to sort out the problem and then returned to serve our main course. Dead flowers in our room. On returning to our new room after evening meal we were shocked to see the perspex from the picture over the bed had fallen out onto the pillow. Thankfully it did not fall out whilst we were in the bed which could have caused a nasty accident. The sunbeds have a non detachable cushion so when it rains they absorb water and are totally unusable for days unless you are prepared for a wet bottom. Not enough staff to put them under cover even if there is somewhere to store them. The thatched gazebo overlooking the pond is a pleasant place to sit unless this has been used the previous day but due to the lack of staff means the ashtray remains full of butts and the table has not been cleaned. No welcome drink, in room tea/coffee facilities, shower gel or shampoo, Bottles of water (small) US$3 We understand that the owner is passionate about preserving the local environment so it is a pity there appears to be less consideration given to his clients and staff.…
My husband and I stayed for 2 nights in this 10 room lodge . Monkeys on our porch every morning and a great night walk with frogs. The lodge has a small cocoa plantation with a great tour. Quality ingredients prepared well , made meals a treat. Lovely staff - simple and quiet place , would definitely revisit .
Great place! We stayed for a night with 2 and 6 year olds and also went on a river float with Pura Vida rafting. The property has a great walk through the farm and jungle. Great place, great food, and awesome property. Terrific stop and great for kids!
A little gem. The accommodation is basic but the grounds, food and staff are amazing. I didn’t want to leave here. We saw Howler monkeys in the grounds and I also spotted a Blue Jeans frog just outside my room. Javier will serve your food and drinks with a smile and Jean Pierre (owner) will provide an interesting tour and history of chocolate production in Costa Rica. There is a swimming pool in the grounds but it fits into the surroundings unobtrusively.
