We stayed in march as part of the Tui Grand tour The rooms were ideal for one night, although basic they were very clean. It was amazing waking up hearing the howler monkeys. The grounds were wonderful. We really enjoyed the BBQ buffet dinner which was put on by the family and the bar was a lovely spot to spend the evening.

We stayed here as part of the Tui Grand Tour. The wildlife which can be seen here is just amazing. We even saw Howler monkeys so close in the car park on arrival. The reception area is very welcoming and pretty, and the gardens teeming with birds, butterflies and wildlife. The grounds are well laid out with lots to see. Dinner is buffet style in the cheerful restaurant and as a gluten free vegetarian I managed to eat well. At night they bring in local vendors which is a great way to support the local economy. They also do a night walk which is definitely worth doing. It is run by a local and he is great at spotting the wildlife as even at night the gardens are teeming with wildlife. We even saw a sleeping sloth. Now for the negative.. the rooms are depressing to look at both from outside and inside. They need updating as this place could be outstanding. We would though still stay here again as the positives outside the rooms far outweigh this. We were only in the room to sleep as there is such a good atmosphere in the bar/restaurant area.

My favourite stay during our 7 day Grand Tour. The staff were fabulous, rooms very basic but clean. I was with friends and we shared a lovely balcony. The food was nice although basic. The grounds contained a lake with several caymans and we saw several leaf and blue jean frogs. The feel of the resort was just lovely and we would have liked 2 nights here instead of 1. Thanks to all the wonderful staff.

The reception and bar/restaurant area is pleasant. The rooms are dark and a little dated. The river walk is old and crumbly. It’s a little unloved or under invested in places. But the gardens are full of wonderful birds, frogs and spiders. So by the 2nd day you love it. As others say the drinks a lower priced and the food acceptable.

While the range of wildlife in the hotel grounds is great, particularly the birds coming to the feeder, the hotel is poor in many ways. Our room (number 16) was narrow and dark, despite the windows opening on to patio area. At one end, there was a small storage room, and at the other end, a shower room. The high window ledge above the shower was filthy and hadn’t been cleaned for months (see my photo), and the same applied to the high window ledge in the storage room. The shower room fittings were ancient, with the toilet continually flushing after pushing the handle down, and the washbasin loose on the wall. As well a poor maintenance, there was evidence of cost cutting: only one hand towel supplied in our room ( and other rooms occupied by our group) and the thinnest toilet paper imaginable. The food at breakfast and dinner was considerable in range but not of great quality. Again, there was evidence of cost-cutting: for example, poor quality pineapple (in Costa Rica!), and for the buffet dinner, the only sweet was a tiny cube of chocolate cake. During our stay, the staff were efficient, but nobody looked cheerful. This lodge compares poorly to the others on our Costa Rican tour and is best avoided, unless they clean the place up and spend some money.
