Heliconia Island is a gem of a place to stay. Unfortunately we only stayed one night/day and it rained nearly the entire time. Our room had A/C and it worked very well. The room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. The walls were windows so the view from our room was spectacular! Breakfast was good and watching the birds from the porch was very enjoyable. This great place is nestled right into the edge of the rainforest. The grounds are exquisitely manicured pathways, bridges and gardens. You can hear the river running, various birds and Howler Monkeys right from your room. The owners were very accommodating and even gave me a flashlight to use during my stay since we arrived after sundown. We would highly recommend and hope to return in the near future.
Hi guys, A small scale B&B The room was enjoyable, but basic. It had a lot of windows. It gives you the idea that you are in the middle of nature. There is no coffee maker. The fridge is a shared fridge. Breakfast was very good. The dinner was good. Bed was comfy. Friendly people. Every day I woke up at 6.00h. To watch the birds. Getting a cup of tea at that time was no problem. The garden is really beautiful. We found highway 4 rather disturbing, you hear it often and sometimes very loud. It's not just a normal road, It's a busy highway with huge trucks passing by! The drivers often use their jack-breaks. Be aware that you'll hear it everywhere on the property. For us, it was no problem, But if you are sensitive to loud sounds, it can be a problem. Regards Schliek
We stayed one night at Heliconia Island and enjoyed very much the beautiful garden with all the different Heliconia flowers. In addition we spotted a toucan, the howler monkey colony of the place and a number of birds at the feeding place during the excellent breakfast in the morning. The only downside was that the Dutch couple which we had expected to give us a tour around the property, as indicated in the Costa Rica guides, was not present to do so. The apartments were well equipped, but they were rather dark and not designed to our liking (the latter is very personal of course).
Heliconia Island is amazing place with over 60 varieties of heliconias in their beautifully landscaped gardens. We stopped for a day trip and even though we didn't make a reservation, the gracious staff accommodated us with a wonderful lunch. This was such a great place we are going back and this time we are going to spend the night. Really good bird watching.
Really enjoyed our stay at heliconia island. Nice accommodation , clean but the views and the garden make it perfect.. lots of birds, monkeys in the garden. Perfect for birders or just any animal lover. Melvin is a very kind host. Served us a real good breakfast and helped us identify all the birds at the feeding table. We didn't have diner because the restaurant closes in the low season. Restaurants were 5-10 minutes away by car. I would advise a rental car if you stay here. Lots to do in the area. Definitely recommend this place
