This time we unfortunately had to realize that the quality has dropped significantly. The rooms are still big and nice, but the cleanliness left a lot to be desired. There was dust on the furniture everywhere. The room staff only made the beds briefly in the morning - the bathroom wasn't even wiped down quickly.
We didn't feel welcome at breakfast. The croissants were hard and dry, the scrambled eggs tasted soapy. Tables weren't cleared for ages, even though sparrows were sitting on the tables. Hygiene is different. We hope the hotel returns to its old standard!
The room, located directly on the thoroughfare, furnished with furniture clearly from the last century, lacked the white curtains (no privacy screen). In addition, to charge CHF 6 for the sweet drinks, we found quite overpriced.
The highly winding spa, with stairs up and down and up and down, had the charm of an ageing disused slaughterhouse... albeit equipped with the necessary saunas and steam baths.
Positive was also the good food in the evening (with significant room for improvement as far as the friendliness of the service) and breakfast.
Overall, we perceived little to no welcome/well-being atmosphere of all employees (incl. owners). A smile would sometimes be a smile...
We would come back:-)
The receptionist was extremely unfriendly upon our arrival. We did actually book for 2 adults and then decided to bring our kids along. When we requested the receptionist to add an extra bed , she literally scolded us very badly
Even worse the lady at the reception was very racist. She gave my Muslim wife who is veiled an extremely bad look and gave her the impression that she is not welcomed. What’s the use of a hotel if you don not expect people from all cultures. In 2022 and with human rights should be protected in a country like Switzerland, this lady gave us a very racist look and expression
Even worse, the room was very bad, electric plugs where not working, lights in room were not working, there was a very big discussing insects welcoming us in the room. Please donot come to this hotel at all and I recommend any other near by hotel. The only thing good in this hotel is the view , which can be provided by any other hotel
Extremely Not recommended
Absolutely recommended!!!!
in-laws .They are regularly available to speak with at all times of the day. Anything you want....they will provide. Including room service>>delivered by THEM if need be.
The staff COULDN'T be more helpful.
Their classy and stylish restaurant was breezy and delicious and full of ambience. They really DO, (as the menu suggests), make anything you want if you don't see it on the menu. I did
it. Was a spectacular pepper steak dinner...sitting outside,
alongside Lake Lucerne, with the Alps as a backdrop.
The Gerbi is special.
If you can't appreciate its uniqueness and homey yet elegant quality....AND...lol....childeren running around the lobby in the daytime.............this place is not for you.
The little Hassler grandsons and granddaughters play, quietly and refreshingly happy during the day. It is normal to see one or all of the families at either the pool or the lake. ALWAYS were friendly and always had a nice chat with them. Made us feel a part of life in Weggis....and the Gerbi.
A few things about our stay (7/16-7/26)...
NO A/C. All of Weggis has to catch up. No A/C in the whole town.
Heck--Most of Europe dhas to catch up, as far as A/C goes.
Told the front desk we needed fans...and **VOILA**, within a
half hr---2 FANS. Those fans even made sleeping COLD sometimes...in the middle of a hot, hot summer.. After that---it was smooth sailing. I will say....if there is any suggestion to make about the Gerbi... it's to get some rooms with air conditioning for us A/C addicts that come there from the
USA---lol...
(tho--very rarely do they get Americans. It's a hidden gem).
The spa pool was the greatest indoor pool I've ever been in. Massage jets all around the sides of the pool, giving you what amounts to a water massage....a VIBRANT, relaxing, and massaging waterfall. REAL massages also. By great masseuses ... 4 or 5 diff sauna's and steam rooms. ALL..... with those incredible mountains in your view...(well--not the sauna's).
The outdoor pool was sunny with an absolutely INCREDIBLE view of the lake and mountains.
The Gerbi also has it's OWN access to Lake Lucerne.
The rooms and the breathtaking view from the balcony were 2nd to NONE!
And one more sideline-----
Not 1 mosquito!
Not sure why not. Was hot and water everywhere...but not a
one in our 10 days there in the thick of the summer.
All in all--it is one of the best places I have ever stayed.
We travel every year to Europe...and never do we return to the same place.
This is the exception.
When I left...I was already trying to book a reservation for 2008 when we will be back in Switzerland again for the Euro Cup...(Is taking place in Switzerland that year).
I can't wait to see those people again...
Dagmar---(daughter in law)--is sort of the queen there...heh...
Petra-(also daughter in law,--is the queen of the, connected sister hotel,, The Alexander)
Both bend over backward for you.
Good lookin' on top of that....heh, heh.
The staff was fantastic....
Violet--She insist's she will be looking for me in '08. And
whew...............what eyes!
Stephanie--The 1st person we greeted on 7/16, remanined upbeat and beautiful the entire trip.
Ursula--One of the most helpful people I've ever met...and seemed that way to all........ FLUENTLY,, in 3 languages..(as all do, btw). 4 if you count Ittalian...tho she says shes not as adept in that.
I know I'm missing others that were ohhhh so helpful, from the girl with the short black hair at breakfast that always had what I wanted READY for me...to the 18 yr old guy and pretty redhead in the Alexander who stopped anything and everything they were doing at the time to help me get hooked up to the internet and get me a beer while waiting...lol>>>tho>>>Everyone did that...from Mrs Hassler..(the mother of ALL there)..on down.
At the end...Dagmar was on the steps with us while filling up
the van to take us to Zurich for our flight, to say farewell.
I liked her style.
I liked the whole hotels style.
NOTHING but good things to say anout this beautiful place.

the water in our room (which was quite spacious but very bare and cold) was ice cold. So we spoke to the hotel manager who answered that this would happen occasionally and that there was nothing he could do, we either waited for an hour and a half for the water to heat up again or we had to wonder around in our robes and go all the way to the spa to shower. Basically telling us "that's bad luck, deal with it yourselves" not apologetic at all. There would have been plenty of ways to make up for our inconvinience. It wasn't until my wife suggested to him that one way could be to offer us some complimentary drinks for example. Where in the world do you find a hotel in which you have to tell the manager how to do his job. None i've come across. As we were hungry and wanted to dine before the restaurant shut (we had half-board) we went down smelling of chlorine the food was decent and we had a few drinks. When the bill for the drinks came we were told that the two glasses of red wine we had were on the house but we still had to pay for the water!!! Unbelievably tight!!! So overall we enjoyed the hotel its food and service but when the management is so unprofessional and unaccommodating then its like loosing the king at chess...its game over for the whole hotel.
