Although only served in the „Regis Stüble“( looked freshly renovated) it offers cosy atmosphere. Service was good and still we felt there was lots of traffic as there is a permanently open door from the restaurant into the kitchen.
So, if you want it quiet, this is not for you.
Still, it didn’t bother us and we felt they should put a sliding door in, that opens and closes by a motion sensor.
Although the Stüble has an amazing fireplace, it wasn’t on, which was a pity as it could have made the atmosphere perfect.
We had to change original place, as lights were shining in your face.
We offered the Rösti as shared starter and it was delicious. We even got an amazing „greeting from the kitchen“, which was another dish in itself.
As a main we had a great cheese fondue which was plentiful and even more so very tasty. We loved the choices of different breads, much appreciated. The rose wine was great, the red one was served too cold.
Overall, a nice evening with good food in a nice atmosphere!.
We will come back for hopefully another nice evening, next time on the terrace overlooking the lake!
However, the hotel is tired. The front desk staff was indifferent for three days and service in the dining room extraordinarily slow. It took two hours to get a pre-ordered dinner and it arrived overcooked; lunch on the terrace was slow, and the breakfast was standard and uninspired. The coffeemaker was balky and staff to help rare to find.
We ate dinner elsewhere one night to avoid further annoyance.
No on-site parking spaces, a bar with minimalist furnishings and only neglected/run, listless and unmotivated staff, no trace of friendliness or even warmth, but room prices that make you turn your head. And of course, you collect the money immediately upon arrival so that there are no more arguments afterwards.
What did we buy for 285 CHF/night?
A small room at the back with a view of the street, equipped with two primitive bed frames, a small wardrobe and a chair (without a table).
That means:
where do we put our suitcases and bags? Who is allowed to sit on the only chair and when? Who takes the bed with the only small bedside table in the corner? Who is allowed to use the only storage space on the narrow window sill? No coat hook anywhere to hang anything on!
The sad furnishings continue in the bathroom and you shower in the bathtub without a shower curtain.
The (locked) doorway suggested that this was probably the children's room in a family apartment that costs the same as the "more spacious" (parents') apartment.
The breakfast selection is indisputably bad and in no way corresponds to the price. It's hard to beat Minden.
CONCLUSION:
Irony mode on:
If, like us, you only want to invest the paltry minimal amount of around €300 for one night, you deserve it. Expecting normal accommodation in a top hotel for little money is just out of the question!
Irony mode off!
............and don't tell me about the beautiful terrace.
We would most definitely recommend a stay at The Central am See, Weggis, for a fabulous holiday with superb service with restaurant.
We had a lovely light and spacious room with terrace. We even had a picnic lunch out there several times. The Volg, a small supermarket is just a few minutes walk away. We did sit out on the terrace a great deal. The breakfast, in the Grande Salle, has plenty of choice, hot and cold, The table staff will take special orders. For example fried egg to go with the bacon which is already out on the buffet. Dinner in the evening is served outside, weather permitting, or in the Winter Garden restaurant, and, if it is busy, even in the Grande Salle. There is a huge menu choice, for those not on half board, who have a menu card offering a choice of starter and main..We have never had issue with the menu on offer..The coffee is good.
We have visited Weggis several times now so rest and relaxation is our thing now, and you can certainly do that here.
There are lots and lots of breathtaking and interesting places to visit in Central Switzerland. If you are going to do lot of sightseeing a Tell Pass, from the Tourist Information, is a good investment.
We love this place and have returned so many times. It is so peaceful. So special.
.
Breakfast buffet was top notch.
Rooms are very old and the bathroom in particular is in dire need of renovation. Chambermaids are good and helpful.
It would be a shame if the beautiful house were not renovated. Location and garden were very nice.
The rooms are basic and clean. The staff were mostly great. I was on a package holiday so had a fixed menu. This was slightly disappointing as there was only a choice of salad or soup then either a meat course/fish course/ or vegetarian. There was no choice of desert. I think the Hotel could have offered more choice and if it ever wishes to be a 4* star hotel then this is a must. The food was nicely presented and well prepared. The restaurant must have a good reputation as at weekends there were considerable number of none residents dining there.
Being on a fixed menu I was not seated in the proper restaurant for the evening meal but was seated in the Stuble when not eating outside. You did feel like a second class guest on this occasion. Breakfasts were fine. The Hotel has no lounge which is possibly another reason why it is classed as a 4 star hotel.
However, there is a lovely infinity pool which was such a treat in the excessive heat.
Overall, a great hotel but it can only be measured against other 3 star hotels.
