Last Minute decision on a Saturday in September to Book a room in this hotel. The procedure of reservation was simple and check in also. Just like in the pre internet days. Very nice and genuine friendly welcome . Nice cosy room . excellent restaurant with great service . I enjoyed the regional wines by the glass and was very well advised. I was told that I could enjoy breakfast from 7:00 until 12:00 . How nice is that! Breakfast was also very good . Real bread … Staff friendly , funny and in good mood with all guest . Badenweiler also a nice therme town . I enjoyed . Will come back . thank you

We had an enjoyable stay at the hotel. We had a room on the top floor. We booked superior and where a little disappointed on the style... The style being rather outdated. No balcony or veranda Apart from that, it was sparkling clean, the staff more or kess friendly and the location of the Hotel top, being in the middle of the village. One note on the restaurant - food was delicious!

beautiful family hotel that allows dogs - best food - excellent quiet rooms - friendly and helpful staff - we had the best 5 course dinner with matching wine (1 glass for each course) - good selection and an excellent choice of dishes and wines - unfortunately we were so taken by the atmosphere and the tasty food, we forgot to write it down and take pictures - a worthy surprise dinner served in stile and time (perfect intervals) even the restaurant was fully booked and busy - we had a blast and will definitely come back. As a guest you get a spa bag including towels etc. and a pass to visit the local ancient roman thermal bath & spa

Our room was in an annex, and quite spacious, more like a suite. The main hotel is very quaint, which I prefer to some of the ultra-modern places we stayed at on this trip. There is a lovely outdoor patio for having a snack or drink. The restaurant is separate from the hotel, so you can't charge to your hotel room, but that was only a minor annoyance. It is close to the spa and Roman ruins, and easy walking distance to town, although up a bit of a hill.

The hotel is well located in the middle of town...that’s about it. We were given an old rundown room in desperate need of renovation. The ceiling probably had water damage and was not repaired. The fixtures, lamps and furniture are scratched, old and rundown. Worn old and stained wall to wall carpeting. The type of furniture you would not pay more than 5 dollars at a garage sale. The ceiling fan in the bathroom was rattling and noisy...very unpleasant while in the bathroom...forget having a relaxing bath ! At over 125 Euros a night plus local City Spa fees that’s way to expensive for a very very below average room. Note : high season had not started. It was a hot night...no AC in the room !! Breakfast buffet was nothing special in comparison to other similar rated German hotels in the vicinity. No scrambled eggs, no bacon, no sausages...we were told that these items were made to order. A total waste of time sitting around waiting 20 minutes for the eggs to arrive. Shop around...there are much better places to stay in Badenweiler in great locations with better rooms and service and for 30 % less.

We have stayed in Badenweiler before but not this hotel. We are so glad that we did. We loved the way the hotel is laid out and we loved the position of our room with the small balcony. We dined at the hotel once and the food was tasty and plentiful. But also knew of several other places to eat in the town. We will definitely be staying there again. Only one complaint on our part was the breakfast, although a good range of food, it was all set up for cooked breakfast where you could help yourself but it never appeared no matter what time we turned up. Our German was not good enough to ask why not.

Located in the small, hilly resort spa village of Badenwieller, Zur Sonne, while quite old, was comfortable and appealing. Initially what appeared a bit worn, became part of the charm. Carpets on stairs and hallways were thread bare, but our room was very large and comfortable with a totally modern (and quite large) bathroom. Breakfast nothing special, but half board dinner was lovely. Nice romantic feel to whole experience. Would stay again.

They call it a romantic hotel, and it certainly is. Fortunately, they also make sure those travelers in non-romantic situations are equally as happy. I stayed in a room with my brother, and already familiar with the split twin bed European-style rooms, I was delighted to discover this hotel had split bedrooms. But more on that in a minute. From the moment you walk into the hotel you are met with items fit for the old town setting: antiques, a beautiful piano, plenty of candles. Everything was clean and well-cared for. The staff were no-nonsense but took care of our every need. Dining here is a real treat - be sure to get some black forest cake!! The breakfast was also very tasty, if you decide to include it know that you may request eggs cooked to order (they are not out or listed anywhere, but the staff gladly makes them.) I found the room to be very modern. I even had a bed that had a motion-controlled nightlight built into its base! Both bedrooms were very roomy. One had a desk the other outdoor access to a porch. The bathroom was very large with two sinks and a great shower with amazing pressure. We received a fresh fruit plate upon arrival, and the room came supplied with fine bath products. The grounds and the rooms were very quiet - I heard no ground noise and slept really well during my two night stay. I would love to return to this hotel for a romantic get away - I wonder what a single room would look like!

Overall the hotel is on the older side. Furnishings and décor are dated. Our room was on the larger side with a large living room and huge bathroom. Lots of closet space. But we had one set of windows out to the courtyard with the dining area and the other windows faced the parking lot and street. So at night when we needed the windows open because of no A/C we had to listen to the noise. They only provided the room with one small fan that was meant for a desk not a whole room. Breakfast was plentiful with the ability to have eggs cooked to order. One irritating encounter with the front desk revolved around the spa across the street. There were discount vouchers in the room so we stopped down to ask about using them before heading to the spa. Never did the front desk person tell us that we had to bring our own towels. It was obvious we were not carrying towels when we talked to her. So when we got to the spa we swam in the outdoor pool and then traipsed back to the hotel dripping water. I would think it would be in the hotel's best interest to not have people walking through their building soaking wet but that was our only choice.

Badenweiler is an almost perfect small town for vacationing: very quiet and devoid of cars, a beautiful parc, wonderful thermal baths with a large outdoor pool, an old-fashioned high-street with a coffee house, some restaurants, a bookstore, etc. Hotel zur Sonne is located in the heart of the city, opposite the thermae and the parc. The hotel consists of a number of buildings, centered around a large terrace with beautiful plants, also serving as a breakfast and dining area. The welcome was courteous. We were given a very large room with seating area, a terrace and a great view on the valley. Service was good. Breakfast buffet was equally tasty and healthy; kitchen staff was on call and volunteered to make some egg specials and so on. Nice, small town for vacationing; perfect hotel to enjoy the area.
