Don't be fooled by the picture. I paid nearly €70 for a tiny room which is meant to be a 'normal' room. As I type this I can hear the man in the room next door peeing the walls are that thin. Nice guy on reception, but pokey and really bad value IMHO
Hotel De La Vendee is situated near the market and church, very much in the centre of Roche sur Yon. It is a clean and functional hotel offering good value for money. The staff member on duty when we arrived, in the afternoon, was extremely helpful, giving us all the important information without having to ask too many questions. He was also on duty during the evening, at breakfast and check-out still as pleasant and helpful as ever (I guess you don’t go into the hotel business if you want a 9 – 5 job). We had a very spacious room with big bathroom. Large opening windows, so no need to have to fine tune the air conditioning. For information, Place Napoleon is just a short stroll away from the hotel and worth a look. It is a large, traffic free square landscaped with ponds of water containing various model creatures (crocodile, hippopotamus, camel, fish, otter). The interesting thing is that they are pneumatically controlled by visitors both adult and children. There is no charge and they demand a certain level of skill. The hotel charges are very reasonable for the standard (71 euros and 8 euros for breakfast) and the breakfast is of the basic French style found in this type of hotel. The hotel is part of the Contact network which runs a very practical loyalty programme. My only real concern is that there is no secure parking here. You have to park on the street and charges apply at certain times/durations. Verdict: Good hotel offering value for money – would go back.…
Very good service, cleanliness, location etc. The only thing, the rooms smell of smoke from way back when everybody smoked in the rooms, so without changing the rugs, draperies, etc, that smell is always there. Will however stay there again as it is close to where I do business.
I had a large room with a double and single bed plus a roll away bed for my family of 4. The room was spacious, the beds reasonably comfortable and the bathroom was functional and big enough. Nothing exceptional but nicely taken care of and with a central location at a very decent price. Pros: -staff (very nice) -breakfast (only 8 Euros but plentiful and good) -location (next to the market hall and downtown La Roche) cons: -Parking on the street (difficult to find when we came late at night and not free during week days) -opening hours of front desk (although they come to greet you if you call them) -paper thin walls
Great location but rooms are tired and worn and very small for a small city in France.
Good central location. Parking is easy to find on the street and free from 7PM to 9AM. Rooms are tiny, shower room fine, but only separated from the bedroom by a sliding door; not so nice if there are 2 of you in the room. Check in/out were polite and efficient, breakfast was simple but good, the price was right at €69 + breakfast. If you need a stopover, try this one.
We needed to stay near La Roche as we were due to pick up our holiday accommodation early the next day. This place was excellent. The hotel is right in the centre of the town, is stylish and modern yet not expensive (we paid 66 euros per night). The rooms we had were spacious, airy, had good views across the town, had decent sized bathroom, very comfortable king sized bed, a cot was provided free of charge for our little one, and the reception were friendly, helpful and helped us find a good restaurant for dinner. Breakfast was good (8 euros, perhaps a little steep, but it was fresh and breakfasts always seem on the dear side in Europe given they are cold) and plentiful. The whole place was clean. I guess the only down side is that there is no free parking and so you have to put money in a meter between 9am and 7pm during the week and on Saturdays, though it was inexpensive and this didn't really bother us given our short stay there. The meter can provide you with a ticket for a free 15 minutes anyway while you check in, and then rates were perfectly reasonable to have the car so close by. The centre of the town is worth an evening stroll too. A good find. …
