Detailed Reviews
Let me start by saying my friend and I had such high expectations based on all the excellent reviews and articles we saw.
We decided to book for three days during our trip and were just blown away from the moment we took the transfer to the hotel, to when we left. I’ve tried to break down below:
Room:
We had the most beautiful room I’d ever seen, incredible marble decoration, a view to kill for and the most luxurious toiletries and bedding imaginable. The room was cleaned two to three times a day and always when we were out, the turndown service was impeccable and we would laugh at the interesting Greek music that would be put on, upon our return from dinner.
Food, drink:
Food is subjective but I’m surprised about the negative review below mine considering we stayed at the same time - and ate the same things by the looks of it!
We thought the food was amazing, the menu was very comprehensive even for a fussy eater and really good value considering the high quality. It was super filling and had plenty of flavour (as someone whose worked in the food industry, I feel I can safely say this is of a great standard). The drink menu also offered a great selection of beverages which were equally well presented and flavoursome. We were also treated to plenty of complimentary nuts and cookies which meant we never felt too hungry!
Service:
Now, this is where the hotel totally sets itself apart. The service here is just incredible and I would challenge any guest who has said otherwise. Nothing was too much for staff, we were incredibly well looked after and every staff member we saw or encountered help to enhance our amazing stay. We even met the owner (how often can you say that?) who was a fantastic woman that was genuinely interested in our stay and feedback.
Pool:
Absolutely gorgeous, plenty of space to catch the rays and some super cool swings! Would be good for any type of traveller.
Beach:
Coming from Mykonos to here was bliss, totally private and beautiful beach with comfy beds and a clean, refreshing sea.
Gym:
Had to book a slot in advance due to covid however I liked this as it meant I had the space to myself! Great weight selection and modern, clean equipment.
Shop;
Sold beautiful designs (a bit out of my price point) but any fashionable lady or male would be very well catered for here. Oh, and the shop dog was super cute!
This was one of the best hotel stays I have had and having considered all the above I believe that the service and care for visitors really puts Calilo head and shoulders above the rest.
I can’t wait to return next year!!!!

This hotel is one of the most beautiful hotels I have ever stayed in. We were truly blown away when we arrived, a lot of the detail has gone into the design of the hotel and every part of it is picturesque. The rooms are spacious and spotless. The staff at the hotel are very friendly too, the level of customer service is to the highest.
I do believe the hotel needs to work on a couple of things though. The hotel is very remote which means you do not have easy access to a selection of restaurants, for this reason the hotel should offer more of a variety with their menu. The menu for lunch, breakfast and dinner stayed the same during the duration of our stay which meant we had to keep eating the same things as there was only a few items which liked on the menu.
Lastly, the remote location of the hotel meant it wasnt easy to visit other areas of Ios. We had to pay 70 EUROs (140 Eur return) for a hotel transfer to the town of Ios, this is very expensive for people looking to venture outside of the hotel. I would suggest that the hotel introduces regular transfers to different areas which people can book behind reception. Taking bigger groups this way would mean it would be cheaper for the hotel in terms of fuel and cheaper for the guest as they are travelling with other hotel guest. For example, it would be great if there was a regular transfer to Chora (town in Ios) every other day.
If the hotel isn’t going to do this I suggest they use that beautiful piece of land they are situated on to create more things to do. There’s only so much hiking you can do!

Calilo Resort surpassed all our expectations, making our honeymoon an unforgettable experience. The impeccable service provided by the staff truly enhanced our stay. From the moment we arrived, the resort's stunning beauty captivated us, with its pristine beaches and breathtaking landscapes. The food was a culinary delight, with every dish bursting with freshness and flavor. Housekeeping ensured our room was always spotless, and the concierge, drivers, and security team were professional and attentive. We can't recommend Calilo Resort enough for a perfect honeymoon getaway.

We stayed at the Calilo for a week and we had a great time. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, from the reception, to the waiter service, the housekeeping and the beach service. Our room had a nice sea view, it was a big comfortable room, with premium complimentary room amenities (mineral water, tea and coffee facilities etc), we also loved the goodies found on the bed every afternoon during the turndown service!!! Great customer service overall and a good value for money for a five star property. We strongly suggest to spent your day at the beach the water is so clear and the beach service great. Also make sure you dine at the fine dining restaurant. Once you book a table at the restaurant, reception organise shuttle bus to drive you there if you are lazy to walk until the restaurant.
Overall great five star resort for families and couples as well.
Thank you Calilo for the memorable experience, we will definitely return, maybe next season.

5 nights to relax. Interesting architecture. A bit Gaudi. With a dash of gilligans island! The staff works hard to please. The management does their best to rectify any problems. I just have two suggestions. Make sure guests are aware of leaving food out draws a lovely rat.
It’s an island. On a beach. But it was pretty bold
And my second. Serious complaint. They need a new chef
Food was consistently wrong on room service and not above just average food you Couid get at any low end taverna. Very disappointing. And extremely expensive.
As this resort is literally in the middle of nowhere, you’re stuck with the subpar food. And five days of that leaves an impression. Sad. Because with great food to match the great staff… they’d really have something.

Calilo in Ios is truly a work of art and artisanry. The entrance feels like getting immersed in a magical world. The lobby is very cool, in an unconventional type of way. Every single wall in the bedrooms seems handmade, with little stones in mosaic style. It incorporates the elements of the island and merges with its nature. Marble all across the floors, it’s truly beautiful. It is secluded in its own bay and does not have many rooms so it really feels boutique, spacious. Perfect place to relax. The staff is also fantastic and attentive to detail, first class treatment from everyone; from the check in staff, to the breakfast staff, beach bar staff, cleaning services staff, everyone.
Breakfast features both buffet and a la carte and you can order as much as you want.. Room is cleaned and tidied twice daily, and it is really cool because in the evening they prepare the ambiance for sleeping and relaxing, putting music on, turning off the lights, setting up the slippers by your bedside. you really need to experience it to see how cute it is.
The beach has large bungalows complimentary for hotel guests and the bay itself is gorgeous, the best in Ios if you ask me. Crystal clear water with tiny grainy rocks which I find very therapeutical for the feet. The guests who complain about the beach are odd (thats nature made anyway, so how is that the hotel’s fault?). Preferring man made invasion is a disrespect to the island’s nature, which this hotel does not do!
The only thing I did not appreciate regarding the beach is the lack of showers, toilets and changing rooms nearby. Going all the way to the bar is unrealistic, and I didn’t see any showers by the pool area anyway, only a small one by the chess board for feet only.
Lastly, if you plan to go here, do your research because it is very secluded (30 min from chora) and if you do not have a car, you will feel stuck. Hotel does however offer transfer service to and fro for a very reasonable charge.
We loved it!

The hotel is beautiful, the stone mason art is quite exceptional. The mosaic work is stunning. The beach is beautiful if the sand is a little course. You can swim within a short distance.
The female staff are helpful and quite charming.
However, the male staff are bordering on being disinterested and only come alive when the owner is about!
The first night we ate there, I had the lemon chicken and my husband had the Bolognese, very nice although nothing amazing to write about, service was fine.
Last night, 13th of September, we had room service. The starters and main course arrived the same time. We asked the waiter if he could take the main course back, to keep it warm. This seemed a difficult concept for him to handle?
We were in room 9 and there was no light to see the food, he did come and put a light on our table. This is for future reference for the management to rectify.
The tuna starter was tough and the presentation was awful, please management check it out as I don’t want to be rude to what it looked like!
The main course was Ravioli. Inedible, dried ravioli that was difficult to cut, carrots that were raw and the juice had no flavour and was tepid.
I complained! So this is where a good hotel will rectify and apologise .... nothing!
The waiter said it wasn’t his fault but insinuated there was a problem in the kitchen.
We were there4 nights, rooms very clean. Still there are inconsistencies! Turn down at night happened twice and it is possibly the best turndown I have experienced! Cookies one night not the rest of our stay.
This is a beautiful constructed hotel, interior is funky with a sixtys vibe, attention to detail exterior and interior 10 out of 10. So, why on earth are the staff wearing washed out tea shirts and shorts.
The girls should be wearing Mary Quaint style mini dresses and the men in sixtys shirts with neck chiefs.

Dear Guest, Thank you for visiting CALILO and taking the time to review us. As you mentioned, we have put a lot of work and love in creating a unique in architecture and style hotel. I am sorry to hear that we failed to fulfill your expectations since our guests' happiness and satisfaction are our number one priority in our philosophy and hospitality. Worse of all, It troubles me that you thought we were inconsistent. If anything, we pride ourselves in offering our guests consistent, relaxed, luxurious, caring and embracing hospitality. Could maybe the obligatory face masks deprived our staff from showing their beautiful and loving smiles? Room service in all hotels always serves starters and main courses together and especially this year we have been instructed to minimize staff-guests in room exposure. I have communicated with the rest of the team to make sure that both kitchen and service have better quality control in order to ensure enhanced culinary experience and that this issue does not happen again. We also pride ourselves in our turn down routines and we try to offer our guests unparalleled service of disinfecting (summer 2020!!) cleaning and setting our suites in order to offer you maximum comfort. Kindly notice that we do change our turn down offerings daily in order to best satisfy the diverse tastes of all our guests. One day we offer cookies, one day local delicacies or sweet dream surprises but all of them created in house with a lot of love and care. We try to use the best environmentally correct linens and clothes for both our guests and our staff in order to ensure that they enjoy a very comfortable and safe daily life. COVID-19 strict protocols of disinfecting and washing clothes and lines in unusually high temperatures has unfortunately really "challenged" our uniforms this year. As much as I love the idea of the Mary Quaint mini skirts, our staff works with the strong winds of the Cyclades, the sun and the sand and cannot be dressed with the same styling criteria as in a controlled climate environment of a city hotel. Again I would like to thank you for your feedback which only helps us become better and please rest assured that I have communicated with TEAM CALILO your points and have taken all the necessary steps to rectify our possible inconsistencies. From all of us @CALILO we wish you a happy and healthy rest of the year and hope to see you again in 2021! Until we meet again!!!

This hotel is truly one of a kind - you are situated in an exclusive, remote area with access to great beaches, modern amenities and friendly/dedicated staff. The entire experience is almost like having your own private island with the peak capacity of the resort at only ~80 guests.
If you know what you are getting into (this is not your typical Ios experience) and have the means to splurge on a luxury experience, you can’t go wrong with choosing Calilo.

How has this Hotel not got a higher score in reviews? It is literally heaven on earth! As far as negativity regarding pricing on some of the reviews- don’t come here if you’re counting the pennies. It’s a luxury resort. It has cost me a fortune but it’s a holiday I will never forget. The upkeep on this place must be staggering but it’s unparalleled.
There is not an inch of this retreat that hasn’t been thought through. The design concept and the individuality of rooms is amazing.
I can honestly say I have never stayed anywhere like this before. I am not one for holidaying somewhere only to stay on the resort. Our plan was to hire a car and explore the island since the hotel is so secluded. Once we got here it all changed.
The staff are outstanding, the food is excellent. We’ve had spa treatments, yoga session and been to the gym almost every day (which incidentally is not your basic hotel gym, state of the art equipment).
Now we are ready to leave refreshed and relaxed. I will 100% be coming back with the rest of family next visit.
Also, you’ll be the envy of everyone on insta!!

Calilo was the reason we decided to visit Ios. We were greeted by our private driver by the ferry and the ride took about 20 minutes. They welcomed us with a signature drink and escorted us to the breakfast area while they were checking us in. The breakfast buffet and a la cart were included in our room rate. The entire property is artsy and trendy. We stayed in the Panoramic Smiles suite which was extremely spacious and had a swing and several private pools. The beach area was amazing and we spent several hours every day lounging and swimming in the sea. The food was excellent. We never had a bad meal. We used the spa for a massage and a facial-
both were excellent. We enjoyed our stay very much and highly recommended it to anyone looking for a relaxing vacation.
