This B&B is about a 15 minute walk from the ferry but right next door to the old port. Room was large, clean and tidy. It is very quiet. The host could not be more friendly or helpful. My only gripe - the shower is very small!
This B&B is situated near the small port in Lipari which means it is about 10-15 minute walk to the main port where the ferries / hyrdrofoils land from the mainland / other islands. The rooms are quite large, with a loft bedroom upstairs. Rooms were kept very clean. Breakfast was good, and included the option of freshly cooked eggs which I hadn’t seen at other B&Bs. In staying in a B&B you tend to give up some of the comforts you would get from a hotel in return for personal service from a local. At Casa Mafalda I had very little interaction wiht the owner, only seeing hm when I checked in. When I checked in he explained to me that his English was pretty limited (which is fair enough my Italian is almost non existent and I am in his country). I asked for recommendations for lunch and he gave me the two closest restaurants. Wasn’t anything particularly special about either of them, so think they were just recommended on the basis of proximity. I note that some of the reviews from a few years ago talk about how engaging and helpful the owner was so perhaps it has changed hands. Not really an issue in the age of google unless you are hoping for more personal service. The room I stayed in faced a street and was very noisy. I could hear people talking as they walked up the street and motorbikes throughout the night. Some other reviewers have mentioned having quiet rooms. All of these also mention their rooms facing the port. From what I could see was one room on each floor (2 in total) which faced the port, so be aware if you don’t get one of these you are likely to hear noise. I also found the bed quite uncomfortable. I had booked a double room and expected one bed but what I got was 2 singles pushed together with a noticeable gap in the middle which meant trying to sleep on one side of the bed as I would wake up whenever I accidentally rolled into the middle and hit the gap. Also the 2 pillows which were provided were very thin, again not conducive to a great sleep. Overall it was an OK but not great stay. The other B&Bs which I have stayed in Sicily were definitely better. However, these were in other cities so perhaps not a good comparison with what is the standard in Lipari. I would suggest comparing to the reviews of other places in Lipari particularly those with recent reviews when making a choice / comparison.…
The location is top. Very close to the port and to the Main Street. The rooms are quiet, nice beds. The best of it is the staff. They are kind and treat you with distinction. The internet access was ok. The breakfast was pretty good too. I do recommend this B&B
10-15 minute walk from Main Commercial Port, or 5 minute cab ride. 100 meter walk to smaller port which has many food/drink options. Nice room, quiet and mine had a private entrance into a small piazza.
Easy access to town and hydrofoil, neat and clean, very helpful owners. Beautiful sunrise over the harbor from our window. Fun little town with a castle wall, a classic church and town park, and a terrific archaeological museum.
