The hotel Villa Meligunis is located in the historical centre of Lipari, over 11.000 inhabitants in the Aeolian Islands in the province of Messina, in the picturesque fishing district, surrounded by typical alleys and squares. Calabria are the nearest airports to the Aeolian Islands. The Aeolian islands are connected to the mainland through the ports of Milazzo, Messina, Palermo and Naples. By Sea: The Aeolian Islands can be easily reached by hydrofoil or ferry from the port of Milazzo, Messina, Reggio Calabria, Palermo and Naples, the last departure time to Milazzo is at 21:00 by NGI. Naples is the closest port for those who come from North and Central Italy. From Naples, in the summer, there are two daily hydrofoils and 2 ferries per week. The Villa Meligunis is a lovely hotel very friendly staff, the hotel has beautiful views from the rooftop and the hotel is in a fantastic location.

I highly recommend the Villa Meligunis, which is located just a flight of steps from the edge of the sea. Very comfortable room, nice terrace for breakfast, and a staff that is helpful in every way, offering rides to the harbor for arrival and departure, giving advice on restaurants, hiring a driver. I found Lipari to be one of the most rewarding places I visited in Sicily, both for pleasure and outstanding archaeological collections, and this hotel made the stay particularly enjoyable. My only caution is that making a reservation for a room with a terrace, even if it is confirmed, doesn't guarantee that you will have a terrace.

Stayed 2 nights. Located in the old port of Lipari. Hotel seems to have been renovated from the outside but the inside is tatty (rooms, lobby, corridors). Main problem is the noise : from your room, you can hear doors banging, neighbors walking, talking, etc. This place needs a huge sound-proofing renovation.

Stayed in Junior Suite, with nice view but no WiFi for the entire stay. Every day we would let the front desk know that we did not have any WiFi in the room but they kept coming up with lame excuses and promises to fix the system the following day. However every day was the same. We needed the WiFi for work and to stay connected but that situation created a very serious inconvenience. Also, the room had a very old AC/Heat system that although off, kept going on and on making an interrupted loud noise that prevented us from sleeping. With this situation as well they told us that they would fix it the next day, but nothing happened. The last day we asked to speak to the hotel manager. They told us that he would come the next day. However the next day when we checked out, they told us the manager was not in yet. We wrote an email to the hotel detailing all of our grievances but it has been two weeks and no one has replied. Very disappointed.

For starters this is Sicily. And foremost and island you need to take a ferry to visit while on the main land. Scenic area, old streets like all of Italy but the Sicilian charm of the people make it all worth while. The hotel is dated but it is quantity. I could live with the old chairs, small soft pillows and average bathroom that had clean towels and that house keeping kept clean. But what I cannot do without is adequate AC. The room AC just wasn’t strong enough for my liking but the for the rest, breakfast, location, pleasant staff you will be fine.
