Nestled near Valletta and Silema, Urban Valley Resort & Spa is lauded for its cleanliness, from the pristine rooms to the spotless common spaces. Guests enjoy a modern atmosphere, especially the inviting pool area. The spacious rooms come well-appointed, though some guests miss having outdoor space. While the hotel's location is a bit out of the way, the value is apparent with the quality food and transport services offered. The array of amenities, including pools and dining options, alongside the commendable service with friendly staff, make for a pleasant stay, despite some minor areas needing enhancement.

This is a lovely quiet, relaxing hotel.
We arrived late (00:30) due to our flight being delayed and there was someone on hand at reception to help us. We received a free upgrade, as did the people in front of us, to a suite which was lovely and spacious.
Rooms were cleaned and fresh towels/linen everyday which was great.
The two pools were lovely. Loads of sunbeds, always a good choice of where to sit and no need to reserve etc. We came out some days at 11am and still plenty to chose from!
At the weekend, the locals book day passes which is fine, however on the Sunday we were there it was so busy. There were hotel guests unable to find sunbeds, as every single one was gone! This is reasonable that they do this, however paying hotel guests should be prioritised for sunbeds. During the weekday, no issues at all.
The staff work really hard to keep it clean, always lots of people around to help near the pool. The pool bar had a great variety and lovely staff.
Breakfast was included which was great.

There were only a few downsides:
-The location/proximity to shops/other areas. We had to use taxis everyday to go to Valletta/St.Paul’s bay/St.Julian’s day and there are no local connivence shops nearby. This wasn’t too much of a problem, but it’s just something to be aware of for future guests. We used Uber and they were a reasonable price.
-The hotel runs a free shuttle to Valletta, however it only runs up until early afternoon. It would be great if the hotel could do some later ones as it was too hot during the day to go into Valletta.
-The only downside of our room is that we had no balcony, which was a little disappointing.
-Upon arrival we were late & hungry and there was no where for us to get anything to eat (even just a packet of crisps). It would be great if the hotel had a vending machine or somewhere to be able to buy a drink/snack 24/7. Hotel recommended Uber eats due to no local shops, however our food took an hour to arrive (obviously not the hotels fault!) so we were very hungry.

I would highly recommend this hotel!

Dear Ellie S, Thank you so much for your detailed review! We're thrilled to hear you enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere, spacious suite, and the excellent service provided by our staff. It’s great to know that you appreciated the clean rooms, ample sunbeds during the weekdays, and the relaxing poolside environment. We’re sorry to hear about the inconvenience you experienced on the busy Sunday with sunbeds. Please know that if you’re ever unable to find a sunbed on weekends, simply ask one of our staff members, and they will be happy to bring additional sunbeds from inside to accommodate you. We also appreciate your feedback regarding the location and the shuttle service. We'll take your suggestion into consideration for extending shuttle hours, especially during the hotter parts of the day. We’re also looking into providing more convenient snack options for late arrivals. Thank you for your recommendation, and we hope to welcome you back soon! Regards Shawn Navarro Assistant General Manager

We enjoyed our stay at Urban Valley. When we arrived (transfer, part of a package booked through Easyjet) we were given an upgrade to a larger room which was very nice of the hotel to do. We had a couple of days by the pool whilst spending a week in Malta and the cocktails and poolside food were of great value and quite tasty. Breakfast was hot and plentiful, with a rotating special section each day - French inspired, Italian inspired and so on. The staff were friendly and more than happy to help out. The only let down was the food in the restaurant in the evening where you paid a set amount and helped yourself buffet style - a bit like all you can eat. We didn't think that particular set of food was of a particularly high standard. However, there is another restaurant we did not try that might be better. Or we may have just caught it on a bad day.

We got the bus everywhere on the island and there is a bus stop to Valletta on the other side of the roundabout at the bottom of the hill. On the way back to the hotel, the bus stop is on the same side of the roundabout as the hotel.

About a 20 minute walk away is Gzira and Sliema, where we found a few bars and restaurants quite easily.

All in all, a very nice hotel, would stay here again in future.

We selected this hotel as its in a quieter location than most hotels, overlooking the small nature reserve. We arrived an hour before check in. Initially we were offered the wrong room type, but this was soon corrected and we were able to check in early. As we were self catering we didn't eat in the restaurant but did have a few cocktails, coffee and cake, all if which were excellent. The spa was clean and staff happy to do a tour before we used the facilities. It was too cool to swim in the outdoor pool, but both pools looked well maintained.
We took the shuttle a few times, just ensure you know what vehicle will be picking you up as the driver didn't check, but did eventually phone us to find where we were. Bolt can get you everywhere, however there is also a bus into valletta from ip the hill, or if you walk through the nature reserve and round the University there is a hub where many buses stop plus a Starbucks, pharmacy, cafesand toilet.
Our room was comfortable, black out blinds were good and there was a full electric cooker, dishwasher and fridge freezer, plus a patio to sit out on, highly recommended hotel.

The hotel is a little way out of town, but the hotel shuttle, local buses and reasonable walks means you can soon be in the hub of everything. The hotel itself was very adequate with large, well furnished, clean, quiet rooms spread over 4 floors. We we’re on a half board basis and found the food very good with plenty of variety each evening and the dish’s we e very tasty. Breakfast was usually he same each day, but again everything as well prepared and they never ran out - the staff would prepare specialist coffee if you asked.
The two outdoor pools were cleaned every day but as they were not heated - on the chilly side - but hardy types like us managed a swim most days. There was a very small heated indoor pool with sauna and steam room which was nice.
Travelling around Malta to see its wealth of sites was easier than anticipated as we bought the 7 day bus pass which allowed us to travel everywhere including Gozo. Some of the buses could be pretty full at peak times but everybody was courteous and we always got there. Prices on the Island were in our view slightly cheaper than the UK so having coffee/drinks was a pleasure. Valetta was a dream and we really enjoyed walking around the city although you got a better idea of the place from the boat on the harbour tour.
We really enjoyed our 11 day trip.

I stayed here half board with my wife for a week at the end of September. This was organised by my wife for my 40th birthday and was also the first holiday without our kids in 17 years. Although we really enjoyed our stay and the quiet location of the hotel, there are some negatives that need addressed.

Pros.
Location: we knew the hotel was out the way before we came here, which we liked as we planned to have a few relaxing pool days and the location of the hotel was ideal for relaxing. We used the free shuttle bus on one occasion without any issues. We mostly used bolt, which is fantastic and always had a taxi within a matter of minutes or walked the 10min to the university campus and jumped on the bus. The university campus also has a supermarket, coffee shop and restaurants.

Cleanliness: this place was kept clean, staff cleaned the tiles around the pools and walkways twice a day, however we had to chase up for our room to be cleaned. Housekeeping meant to be in the rooms between 10am and 4pm. Our cleaner arrived after 5pm twice and one of this times was when we were trying to get ready to go out for the evening.

Staff: friendly and helpful. All staff seem to work very hard.

Pool area: perfect for relaxing. Had a few days by the pool. No loud music. Although this hotel had some kids, it had the feel of an adults only hotel, this may be due to the time of year we visited. There were always loungers to choose from and never any towels reserving beds. Weather was great everyday.

Cons.
Food: warm at best, which is massively disappointing as the food had flavour but was ruined by being cold. We ate here most mornings and evenings apart from 2 evenings. Scrambled eggs in the morning were cold and the rest of the breakfast items weren't much better. This was the same for the evening meals. Not a big selection, but this was to be expected with the number of guests. Personally, I liked the selection on offer and always enjoyed the cheese and cold meats at the end of my meal. Warm food let this down so much that we decided to eat out for our last evening meal.

Bar service:
Great service at the outdoor bar. Nadia was always happy and entertaining. Unfortunately, the shutters went down on the outside bar at 3pm one day with no explanation, no notice or note left to say why. The pool area was busy with people looking to order drinks and food.
Cocktails in the indoor bar were excellent, service was good but very slow. At one point there was a que at the bar with no barman for 25min. I assume he was on a break with no-one to replace him.

Overall, it is a great hotel to use as a base for sightseeing, great staff and clean. If the food situation improved we would return.

Just had a excellent week long break at Urban Valley. Would definitely recommend for a relaxing holiday in Malta.
As described the hotel is a little remote and located next to a nature reserve, however this means it is a very quite and peaceful location which is just what we wanted.
The hotel is incredibly clean, everywhere is always immaculate!. The rooms are lovely and spacious, neutrally decorated with large comfy beds and we had a balcony overlooking the pool area.
The hotel has 2 outdoor pools and an indoor pool and spa, both facilities were great and always had sun beds available.
As we were in October it was not peak season so the outdoor bar and restaurant were closed. But this also meant the hotel was very quiet and nothing was ever particularly busy.
The hotel also runs a complementary shuffle bus into Valletta (takes 10mins) and Silema the buses and taxis are also easy and cheap to use and all the main towns are easy to access.
The staff were fabulous, very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Especially Ati, Luigi, Camila, Edwind. The manager (I can’t remember his name) was also very friendly and always made sure we were having a great stay.
We stayed half board and the food was excellent, the breakfast had a large cooked and continental selection. Dinner had themed nights and was buffet style with a good variety.
There is also the Thistle Bar which serves food and drinks from 12:00-21:30, this had a really good selection for lunch and was reasonably priced.
Gzira is the nearest town and you can walk there in about 10-15mins, there’s some supermarkets, shops and restaurants here. Paparazzi on the harbour is a great place for lunch and has very large portions!.

We would definitely return to urban valley resort and spa!

We stayed at the resort for 10 days in July 2023.

The location of the hotel is as described “Urban” and there are no shops or restaurants etc in the vicinity, you either have to take a bus but the bus stops are not near to the hotel and walking in a heat wave is not ideal, we had to take an Uber most of the time to take us into Sliema, although, the cost of Uber is very reasonable the cost does add up. In addition, there is a shuttle services to and from the hotel but this is limited and only starts from 9am.

During our stay we had three power cuts, although the hotel has its own back up generator it cannot power the air conditioners during a power cut, the first power cut left us without air con over night and the hotel do not provide fans, the temperature that night was 35 degrees Celsius and we did not get any sleep, the other two power cuts left us without air con for about four hours, the hotel needs to look into a backup that can also manage the air con systems.

Restaurant, one night we waited for 2 hours for our steaks to arrive, when it did it was dry and over cooked, not sure why this took so long taking onto account that we were only one of three tables being served at the time and that the restaurant was not busy.

The resort has two outside shallow swimming pools, the problem is that this is also open for non-residence to book day vouchers and the pool areas become very busy and noisy, I am not sure why the resort is open to non-residents during the busy season taking onto account that the hotel was fully occupied, I can understand that they need to generate additional revenue during the non-busy periods but not during peak summer period, there was also a strong smell of sewage by the pool area.

The staff were very pleasant and helpful and the room was exceptionally clean.

Dear falconrm, Thank you for taking the time to review our resort. We are very disappointed to read that we did not live up to your expectations. We have noted your feedback and will looking into this with the respective departments. My apologies about the power cuts. That week was one out of the ordinary with the disruptions we suffered from the electrical company due to the high temperatures recorded. I will also be looking into your comments about the delay in service with our restaurant manager. Once again our apologies for the inconvenience caused. We are ensuring the pool day memberships are kept to a minimum. We also have two members of staff making sure the pools are kept tranquil and in pristine condition. Thank you for your kind comments about out staff and rooms. I would be more than glad to discuss your comments further or be of any assistance. Yours Hospitably, Brian Calleja General Manager

NIce resort hotel near to Valetta. We booked a family room, and were pleased that it was very large with separate bedrooms and bathrooms, with a balcony as well. Also a full kitchen...great value.

The hotel was well run, although some delays as everything is handled by reception staff. So sometimes there was a wait for staff to finish with other things. Breakfast was good with lots of choices and helpful staff - sometimes a little busy, but depended on the time.

The pool area was clean and the pool was a decent size, although some visitors insisted on playing their own music sometimes which was annoying. There was also a separate pool which was a little more shaded. Food and drink of a decent standard if a little pricey. Didn't get too busy - there were always sun beds available.

Located a bit out of the way, although there was a free shuttle into Valetta which was very good. Need to book, as just a minivan. We ended up using Grab/Uber a lot which mounted up over a week, but was very quick and easy to get around with.

Staff all very good and a the hotel a great choice for a relaxing break

Loads of Pros .. Also small amounts of cons just to make hotel aware .
Spacious Room
Really enjoyed varied Breakfast .. 3 female breakfast staff , were brilliant.
Reception staff helpful and professional,, asked for a few requests, actioned promptly.
Housekeeping polite and meticulous.
Shuttle to Sliema and Valletta efficient

Not so brilliant.
Health Spa , on the occasions I visited , not a haven of peace and tranquility, other guests FaceTiming , loud banter , watching loud videos .. heated pool freezing cold
Lighting in suite ,, 2 options .. 6 overhead spots lights or a unadjustable spot light .. reading or standard lamp , to enjoy a book .
Location , no nearby shops restaurants , needed a bolt or Uber to feel less isolated.

Tip for bolt or Uber , request start and drop off of your trip from front of The Notch conference centre ,, ,, this is a loop for driver to main road , also it reduces cost of ride.

Have just returned from a weeks holiday at this quiet hotel.
Staff very friendly and welcoming, and the hotel itself is lovely.
Got a complimentary room upgrade on arrival, most unexpected, but a brilliant start to our stay.
If you want a stay away from the hustle and bustle of Valetta or Sliema then this is ideal for you,
Pool was lovely and a very tranquil place to chill out if you wanted to, there is a slightly smaller pool adjacent to the main pool, and a bar serving drinks and snack/lunch meals if you wanted them.
Restaurant was more than adequate, there was always something to eat even for the pickiest of diners, and they do an offer of 3 buffet style dinners for 69 euros per person, we did partake of the offer, but then ate out either in sliema or valetta.
TOP TIP.... download the bolt app, which is the maltese equivalent of uber, very reasonable fares, and very rapid pick ups wherever on the island you are, as the hotel is not within reasonable walking distance of anywhere really.

Overall, a very relaxing break, but if you want to be in the middle of the hustle and bustle then this is not the place for you..if you want an oasis of calm then its perfect.

Would we go back again....YES
