Dated but lovely and clean Friendly staff Lovely Clean room overlooking the cricket green and river , tv a little small but you dont come away to sit in your room . Evening meal was beautiful. Pheasant starter beautiful as was our mains , chicken and a fillet steak . Breakfast was nice too , but coffee was cold , how ever when asked they brought a fresh one out , would have been better to have coffee pots as I wanted a refill but no one avail to request one , that said we did have a late breakfast ( 9.45 ) . Would definitely stay again .
Our first weekend away since March and we decided to go here to be near to the Kielder water and dark park. Covid precautions were excellent, temperature checked when you arrive, one way system etc. Lovely room, food and service were great and its close to Kielder for exploring.
Yet again an excellent afternoon, food and service above average and good value. We have been going to the Riverdale with family and friends 6 or 7 times a year for Sunday lunch/evening meals and have also stayed overnight. we have never been disappointed. .
Our first time at the Riverdale, staying for 4 nights. Friendly, helpful & efficient staff in a wonderful location that is COVID compliant. Our room was very clean and comfortable & with a fabulous view over the cricket field down to the magnificent North Tyne river. The food was first rate and would certainly recommend a visit.
This was my fourth visit here and the second in a year. Firstly yes we were asked to phone on arrival to have our temperatures taken, but this is just sensible and no qualms here. Friendly lady directed us to the room which turned out to be in the "new" annexe or garden room complex below the main house. The room itself was fairly basic but with great views across the cricket field and woodland beyond. Room was chilly on arrival but a quick word at reception rectified that. Dinner was superb however and was the main reason for our visit apart from the beautiful surroundings. Someone in the kitchen knows how to cook meat properly here---presumably the head chef because both of our main courses were flawless. Rump of Lamb isn't easy to get right without being tough but mine was perfect, slightly pink and beautifully tender. My wife's Sirloin was also spot on cooked exactly as asked . I assume he or she rested the meat before serving--that's how it tasted anyway. Starters were also superb, delicious rich creamy cheese and onion soup and Bobotie were fought over by us, equally scrumptious. My wife is Zimbabwean but has lived in South Africa for years and Bobotie is a peasant dish there widely served, however this version was surprisingly authentic--top marks. Both too full for deserts but the restaurant staff were extremely pleasant and helpful, particularly the lady who took our order both at dinner and breakfast. Breakfast itself was also pretty good despite the Covid restrictions--the old days of breakfast self service buffets are a distant memory, now being banned, so table service for everything is mandatory, therefore a bit of a delay is inevitable and understandable. Missed out on the morning swim but that was my own decision, just didn't fancy the trek from an outside room to and from the pool in the main building, All in all a great mini break and will return but next time will ask for a room in the main house. Staff deserve credit for friendly efficiency in difficult circumstances and Chef and his/her team should take a bow for producing food that punches above it's weight here.…
