We travelled to Durham by train and got a taxi to Farnley Towers which is a short drive from the Station. On arriving at Farnley Towers we received a very warm greeted by Sue who checked us in and showed us to our room. We were asked what time we would like breakfast and also booked in to the on site Indian restaurant and bar. Our room was very spacious , well equipped , warm, o for table and with a view out towards the centre of Durham. Breakfast the next day was varied and delicious, catering for all tastes . The restaurant had a lovely view over the garden. Whilst staying at Farnley Towers we celebrated our Wedding Anniversary. On return from a day out exploring Durham we were greeted by the hotel’s manager Annette and when we entered our room we received a lovely surprise of Prosecco, Chocolates and a greeting card from all the staff of Far key Towers. A thoroughly enjoyable holiday at a very friendly hotel and a building with character. Thank you Farnley Towers.

Arrived to have to wait ten minutes at reception as bell at reception wasn’t working and continued not to work throughout visit. Room was tired and we were given two hand towels and then smaller hand towels as towel set for both guests. Room wasn’t made up for second night. Beds not that comfortable. Have stayed in better three star accommodation.

Friendly staff. Clean and tidy and modernised. Quite a climb to hotel from centre. Room had low ceilings (top floor ) and consequently lots of banging of heads. Not ideal for anyone over 5ft. Variety of breakfasts offered although not to my taste but there was enough on offer to satisfy the most choosy.

We arrived to a warm friendly welcome by the staff of the Tower. The room was large and the bed comfortable. The bathroom was nicely decorated. There was an issue with a lack of hot water but the staff explained that they were trying very hard to get an engineer out, sadly they were not able to do so. Even though it was a bit of a problem to us my sympathy was with the hotel as they had several sets of guests to explain the problem to. We just got on with it, had a wash and went to enjoy the delights of the restaurant and the cocktail hour. We sat outside initially for our drinks but then went to a nice table to enjoy the fabulous food. The staff, as with the hotel were attentive, friendly and made our evening memorable. Breakfast in the hotel was well presented and very nice. Service was pleasant and we did share some humour with the waitress. One minor criticism is that the tea cups are bigger than the teapot. The waitress topped our teapot up with water but I am sure that the couple of minutes it took to do would be better spent dealing with a restaurant which was beginning to get busy with those arriving for breakfast and just provide bigger teapots. Overall, we enjoyed our stay. We emailed the hotel afterwards about the water problem and the reply was very sympathetic, apologetic and Annette (the manager) ensured that a satisfactory conclusion was the end result. Thanks to Farnley Tower for a memorable and enjoyable stay.

Overnight stay chosen for easy walk to town, we received a very warm welcome from Annette (who also made us a much needed cup of coffee!) Altho' we weren't in the room she'd set aside for us, the one we had was perfectly fine for one night and the bonus of an ironing board and iron in the wardrobe!! Had a really nice meal next door and a very pleasant cocktail, waitresses were great and friendly. Breakfast was very good, lots of choice and other half had a very good cooked breakfast. Would definitely stay there again.
