Had a brilliant tour led by a student attending Durham University. We hadn't realised that the castle is used, in part, as a hall of residence and that formal events and meals are served in the castle buildings. A beautiful place with a fascinating history...very worth a visit...takes about 1 hour.
Comfortable room and bed, breakfast very well prepared and the staff were very welcoming. The Undercroft Bar is a delight as are the coffee bars, and a tour of the Castle is very worthwhile - it puts into perspective all the history of the Prince Bishops
Visited a few weeks ago with my husband traveling the country. Lovely castle, nice area, nice people. We Will definitely return next year in the summer. I cannot believe we have never been before.......
What an amazing place to stay. We were able to park on the green outside the castle looking out onto the cathedral which was a real bonus. Accommodation is basic as you Would expect for university accommodation but there is everything you need and all very clean. The breakfast setting in the great hall is fascinating and we were pleasantly surprised to find a good range of hot and cold food available.
Wonderful tour given by our guide Daniel. Very informative and in a relaxed style. No question was an issue for him. Loved the old castle and all its history learnt so much. I’d certainly recommend a visit to all my friends.
