We visited the spa before Christmas and really enjoyed our visit. The staff were especially nice. We had a problem which was rectified quickly by Angela who was very kind and understanding. We understand how difficult it has been for hotels recently and accept that the odd problem might crop up. But so long as things are rectified swiftly and appropriately (which was the case for us) we were very satisfied with the service.
We stayed here for partners birthday for one night on 30/12 before they had to close as tier 4 was announced. Lovely grounds, room and spa and received the best back massage I’ve had in years. Would definitely like to return in the future if covid ever disappears. We had a lovely 3 course evening meal and lovely cooked breakfast with brilliant service and friendly staff.
I have stayed here three or four times and I was so disappointed the last time, the spa was badly contaminated with chlorine, it was so bad that I ended up at doctors due to an allergic reaction and my costume was damaged. What has upset me the most is how it was dealt with, or rather how it was not dealt with. I rang up to let them know about the damage and no manager was available, someone was supposed to ring back but no one did
After getting married in early December we had booked 2 nights at Appleby manor through secret escapes which included B&B + meal on night one. I am not normally one for writing reviews but whilst laying in the heated pool and comparing it to other places we had been ,I just had to. Given the restrictions in place I thought they did a good job. Signage everywhere, a good introduction to the rules when we arrived and they clearly are trying their best to adhere to them. Breakfast was delicious with a table service menu and the option to select from a buffet too. The restaurant had 2 menu options (restaurant/bistro) we tried both and they were excellent. Some fancy type food you would see on masterchef (my wife loved) and simpler options that I really enjoyed. The steak I had was one of those where every mouthful made me say "oh my god that's good" and the service was excellent and staff very friendly. The room was lovely (garden room 32) lovely views, massive bed, large bathroom nd a couple of. Comfy chairs to sit in (or use as clothes racks as I did) Bluetooth speaker enabled connection my phone and so rather than watching TV, we sat drinking champagne enjoying Christmas music and all sorts of our own taste music which was really great. The Spa is amazing. We like to do these trips all the time and make use of the spa. We have been to The Faversham , Llanraeder Springs, Ruthin Castle and many more. This Spa and its facilities beats every single one (in my opinion) the salt room was new to me And felt good. The layout, the ambience everything was fantastic. I am sure that part of this enjoyment was the fact there were only us and 2 other people in there also( COVID I Guess) .The outside hottub was sooo nice as we walked into the freezing cold December air, then dropped into the hot tub. Glorious. We had 2 x massages which both my wife and I said were the best we've had. Mainly because they ensured the firmness was good and changed to our liking.all very professional and well managed. This place is soo good and perfect for a getaway like the one we had.…
On arrival at the hotel which had only just reopened that day from 2nd lockdown. We were warmly greeted, upgraded to a Garden room, and informed of the new COVID protocols. Wearing of face mask while moving around the hotel was mandatory but could be taken off once seated. If you require a drink from the bar during the day you must order food with it like a sandwich or a cream scone You can have room service drinks to your room, but they have to be consumed in your room. Evening bar service was much more relaxed with a restaurant/ Bistro booking. Bar service ended at 10pm and you were required to be back in your room by 11pm We were upgraded to a larger Garden room very near the spa. The spa is a lovely oasis of calm to get away from it all, and would recommend anyone staying to take part in it. The ladies at the spa reception are really good. We enjoyed the food at the restaurants. Service was excellent food was very good. We enjoyed the bistro menu the most The chap (sorry can’t remember his name) who greeted us first night and had only been there since August is a true asset to your hotel and is worth his weight in gold. The Bistro and Conservatory where both closed, as no real need as guest numbers low, and heating those areas not necessary. Breakfast was good although service on day 3 was a bit of a let down, having had to ask for toast 3 times before it arrived. Also asking for brown sauce, was told oh yer it just over there help yourself! Not what I really expected from a 4 star hotel. (I do appreciate getting staff in at short notice can be an issue) The Garden room 35 had an Adjoining door, something I don’t like at the best of time, but as no one next door all seemed well. We retuned to our room on day 3 to be greeted with the smell of smoking. Our window was open and smoking from neighbours and their friend was blowing in. This is definitely one disadvantage of having Garden rooms as guests can smoke on their bit of the outdoor area, sadly cigarette smoke does not stay in one place. Each evening we were treated to our neighbours Mobile disco blasting out between 5pm and 7pm while they were getting ready! The connecting door made the soundproofing even less effective, and why the neighbours insisted on trying the connecting door approx 5 or 6 times one day I will never know! It was noted that everyone Mostly adhered to wearing of face masks while moving around the hotel. It would seem that our neighbours and friends had chosen to ignore that message and often moved around the hotel with no masks etc. They were never reminded of the rule by staff, even clear signs on the bar stating face coverings must be worn were still ignored, while stood talking to the barman. Now I thought they maybe medically exempt which is fine totally understand that, but seemed able to put a face mask on when going to reception the next morning. My advice would be if you going to put rules in place either implement them or just don’t bother. Thankfully by Summer next year, all these COVID precautions can be a distant memory. We still had a lovely stay and will return …
