We posted the below review privately via the hotels “how was your experience” email system over a week ago but unfortunately have not yet received a response or acknowledgment. We therefore felt it was necessary to now leave a review publicly. What we didn’t add to the section below was that you are greeted with a massive amount of building works around the hotel which we were not informed about. It killed the atmosphere and the view, not really what we expected for our special treat that day. “Thoroughly disappointed with our experience today. We came as our friend was visiting from Switzerland who we haven't seen for several years so we're obviously hoping for a relaxing catch up. Whilst the food was mainly good (the cream inside the macaroon was so soft that it oozed out when you bit into it and actually ended up on the table) the service was not. We were seated promptly and the order taken and were happy with the replacement offering of sandwiches to replace the trout with two of us didn't want. When we received the afternoon tea we realised there were no teaspoons either for the tea cups nor to serve the jam and cream for the scones so we had to go and find someone to get some. We then had to go and find someone to get additional jam as we only received one dish to split between 6 scones. We decided we couldn't finish all the cakes so then had to again find someone to ask for some takeaway boxes. In the whole time we were sat having the afternoon tea we were never approached to check we were ok or if we would like any additional drinks so these were also ordered when we asked for the boxes. Once we were done we then again had to search for someone to get the bill from. We were given the bill and the server walked away without letting us know if she would be back or if we had to go to the till. When she didn't return after quite sometime we decided to leave the table to go and settle. We asked to remove the service charge from the bill but again we were never asked if we enjoyed the experience or if everything was ok. When we asked to split the bill 3 ways with one wanting to pay cash we were then told it is a cashless hotel. One of us then paid for one afternoon tea and I was paying for the other 2, the server then asked us to calculate how much was left to pay. Once the amount was settled she then started walking away and shouted back to us to enjoy the rest of our day. Each time we had to ask for something we encountered a different server so I don't feel like the team were short staffed and there were only 2 other tables that we could see. All 3 of us have spent many years working in hospitality so understand the pressures currently being faced by businesses (hence why this review is being posted privately) but we were unfortunately left feeling quite disappointed by the entire experience.”…
We came for an afternoon tea and was warmly welcomed by Alex. Rosie then looked after us, first asking for drinks and then gave us enough time to look at the menus. Shortly after our hot drinks came out along with cream and jam, followed by our afternoon tea, bought out by Jodie, which was delicious. Both Rosie and Jodie were attentive, and made sure everything was ok. My son has a dairy intolerance and this was well catered for, they even provided different sandwiches for him along with crackers!! I do have to say the chocolate cake and banana bread was yummy. The little touches such as the ribbon on the scone and the labels are so cute. We also had a name tag for my son and Rosie gave us an option to play a game at the table, we chose dobble and kept us entertained. I do believe they have other games for different ages/families. Thanks Fowey Hall, we will definitely be back.…
I stayed here recently with my wife and some family members to celebrate our recent marriage. We had a wonderful time, the staff were very tentative. We were welcomed by Alex and Laura for check in they made sure all of our needs were catered for and Wayne was a welcome chat in the mornings and always offered assistance in the form of a chat and a coffee. Whilst there are large amounts of construction works currently taking place it’s well managed and didn’t have any adverse effects on our stay. We will be back!
Myself, wife and son stayed the night at Fowey. The welcome given by reception was very warm and informative, we felt like we were part of the family, Alex was there for us to help with every question and query, he was excellent. We stayed in the John Hanson suite which was immaculate, very spacious and the attention to detail with the interior was spot on. With a super king bed and a roll top bath, we had a luxurious stay. At dinner, our son arrived to a hand written place card, he was delighted. We wish we could have stayed longer!
My wife and I plus our 2 dogs stayed at 4 star Fowey Hall Hotel for 4 days to celebrate our anniversary we were put in the very nice converted stables, rooms were modern and clean the bed very comfortable, bed, blankets, and treats were left for our dogs plus water bowls. The furnishings in the Hotel is very tastefully done. The food was excellent. We had a very enjoyable stay. As this Hotel is a 4 Star one would expect a safe to be in your room not so, be aware of your valuables keep them safe ! There is also major works going on in the grounds.
We enjoyed a fabulous weekend break at this hotel. We stayed in a small double room ( which was huge). The room was perfect, and we could see that it had recently been refurbished. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom beautiful. Breakfast was excellent. Stall all very helpful and smiley, we felt most welcome. We were neither inconvenienced nor bothered by the building works. Fabulous October weather to top it all! Thanks to all concerned.
Extremely disappointing Sunday lunch at what seems a lovely place. Below Average starters and pretty small. Roast was okay but didn’t have all the trimmings as stated. Me and my husband opted for the fish curry and it came out with 2 mussels and one bite of fish with a very bland sauce, absolutely ridiculous, sent back and they refunded £6 but still tried to charge £20 service. The prices are extortionate anyway for a Sunday set menu so was expecting something special and to say we got the opposite is an understatement.
Fantastic stay. I've decided to visit this great hotel with my husband to relax. The staff was amazing and the room we been located was amazing x The dinner was really good and the kitchen wen above and beyond to make sure I can enjoy the meal and an extra request wasn't a problem at all. Jess was serving that night and she was fantastic very approachable and proactive.
A wonderful experience. The staff very helpful and cheerful- nothing was too much - just wanted to make our stay as enjoyable as possible Views are amazing. We will be returning and would highly recommend this hotel
We travelled a long way to this hotel It was a building site. Then informed that the outdoor swimming pool was not open, it actually wasn’t built yet. Indoor pool was filthy. . Then to the dinner, service was so so slow as it was for all the other meals we had at the hotel. I have a mobility issue so in order to swim I had to use a taxi every time. This hotel should have closed its doors while the renovations were being carried out. I wrote to the General Manager who never even acknowledged my email. Badly in need of new management. I wonder how all the good reviews seem to be at the top of this page.??
