This meal was appalling. So disappointed. Steak pie with the consistency of cat food, veg so al dente it was straight from the freezer bag. Microwave agogo. Should have complained. Needed a meal at home afterwards !

I am baffled by the positive reviews of The Royal Oak. Our room was not well maintained. Thee were lots of dead insects in the bathroom light fitting; it seemed this hadn't been cleaned out for months. There was a similar problem around the windows. The bathroom generally was in fairly poor condition - old fittings, and an empty soap dispenser on the wall. However, a nearly-empty bottle of handwash had been left on the dirty bathroom window ledge. A hairdryer was supplied, but as the two electric sockets were hidden behind the beds, the cord didn't stretch far enough to be able to dry one's hair whilst looking in the mirror. The breakfasts were ok, but there was a lack of fruit and limited variety generally. The stair carpet and access area to rooms were generally in poor condition. There were spillages and litter around the outside access area to rooms, which were not cleaned up during our 4-night stay. The breakfast chef/manager was fairly polite, but often very casually dressed and his 'laid back' style seemed to contribute to a complete lack of attention to detail and cleanliness in the establishment generally. I've attached some photographs of the bathroom light complete with dead flies, the dirty insect-ridden windows and the delightful bottle of handwash.

Took a two day break in the Stamford area and chose the Royal Oak as a base. Room was spacious, well decorated and with a comfortable bed but suffered badly from road noise particularly as the two day stay coincided with the hottest days (and nights) of the year so far. Having to have windows wide open did make it very noisy up until quite late at night and from early morning. No fan provided either. Access to the bedrooms was via a steep narrow staircase so not really good for anyone with poor mobility. However, such things must be expected in a 'traditional' establishment I suppose, with a trade off between outright convenience and character and the weather is not under the hotel's control! Breakfasts were fine but not exceptional and the one evening meal eaten was perfectly good but certainly not outstanding. Choice was very limited but this may be a result of economies made due to the downturn in business due to Covid. Choice of white wine was a choice of one which was a bit of a surprise. Only Chardonnay. Surely a bigger choice would have been possible without breaking the bank? Generally with only a very few customers the place lacked atmosphere but again I suppose I must blame Covid for this and not the pub itself. Would I visit again? Probably not.

Stayed for 3-nights for a UK family break to Rutland Water. The staff were attentive and accommodating, could not recommend enough! Breakfast was exceptional, as was the sunday roast. The room was great for what we needed, not overly fancy but amazing value for money! Beds were comfortable, bathroom clean and tea/coffee replenished daily. A little noise coming from the main road but expected given the location; the village was so pretty that it wasn't an issue.

Welcoming pub with friendly staff. We had a nice twin room with very comfortable beds and all the usual amenities. There is a little noise from the busy road but not enough to cause disturbed sleep, but otherwise the room had all that we needed, it was spacious and clean. Breakfast was very good and nice choices and we booked in for an evening meal and enjoyed the food and friendly ambiance. Would recommend a stay here especially when visiting lovely Stamford. Lovely village and historic ancient church to walk around in.
