A typical traditional Central European city hotel, with friendly staff, clean but outdated rooms, crackling wooden floors etc. The hotel was very quiet during my stay, and all the receptionists were friendly. I had booked a single, which I found out to be more like a closet than a room, but received a complimentary upgrade to a double room, which, while still smallish, was far better. Much appreciated! The hotel would have needed a major renovation twenty years ago, and will actually finally be getting one in January 2021. If they do a good work, it will become a gem. The bed was comfortable, but sleeping was a bit difficult because there was no air conditioning so the room remained hot despite opening the window. The rolling curtain was of little help to keep the room dark so as soon as the sun rose, the room became very light. I should have brought an eye mask. The room features what one might call traditional decor, and must have looked like this 40 years ago. It was too small for any sitting area, but there was a closet with a safe and a minibar. No water bottles or additional amenities were provided. Wifi was fast and reliable. The code was good for two devices. There were no pratical sockets to charge your devices, but I found one on the wall next to the bed. To charge my laptop, I had to unplug a lamp; details that will surely be attended to in the renovation. The bathroom came with a combined shower/bathtub with excellent water pressure. Toiletries were in wall-mounted canisters. On depature, I was allowed check-out at one o’clock, which is of course better than the regular check out hour, but frankly, with the hotel practically empty, there would have been little harm in a later check-out. The hotel enjoys a nice location close to shops and restaurants and is only a 2–3 minute walk from the bus stop Wolf Dietrich Straße, where bus 2 to the airport and main railway station stops. The old town is within walking distance. My stay was a pleasant one and the staff were friendly, but still I’d definitely rate the hotel as a three-star (although I’ve stayed at three-stars that are far more modern and have larger rooms). If you expect four-star amenities and standards, you will surely be disappointed.…
