This is our second visit in this hotel. The first time we stayed in the piano room which is in of the older part of the hotel and is everything how they describe it - elegant and very spacious. So this time we went with a private terrace and the newer, contemporary side. Which is just as beautiful in a different way. There are a lot of beautiful hotels in the world, but what makes this one stand out, is the people that work there. You genuinely always feel very cared for and extremely welcomed!!! The always good humoured and helpful front of house, reception people- the wonderful lady who was in housekeeping and spent so much time, and detail making our room beautiful every day. The location is perfect, you are right outside Saint Paul’s Cathedral, you are minutes away from the water- and minutes away on the other side from the main shopping and restaurants. Five stars definitely.

We had a wonderful week at Casa Ellul. It was our first visit to Malta and to Valletta and we were so glad that we chose to stay there. It is wonderfully placed in the heart of old Valletta, directly opposite the iconic Carmelite Basilica and a five-minute walk from the harbour and Sliema ferry - and pretty much the rest of historic Valletta. We had a beautiful, quiet suite in the interior of the hotel. Breakfasts were freshly prepared to order each morning and beautifully cooked and presented. The staff were exceptional: friendly, helpful, and extremely professional. Hugh thanks to Sladjana, Fiona, Renniel, Violy, Christian, and Salman for making our stay so special. We would highly recommend Casa Ellul.

A great location in central Valleta, walking distance to all attractions and restaurants, yet in a quiet enclave by St Paul’s Church. The hotel occupies a former city mansion and public areas are elegant in a contemporary style. From arrival to departure all staff are warm and professional. We had a problem with mosquitos in our room and they very efficiently helped us by installing various repellents. Our room in the roof extension was a little small and would have benefitted from better storage but the attractive terrace would be a great extension to the room in warmer weather. We loved being in the shadow of the huge cupola of the Carmelite church across the street!

We took the advise of Small Luxury Hotels Of The World as a 60th Birthday treat- On arrival, Sladjana a cheery delightful lady showed us to Suite 1 and instantly told us a new mattress had arrived in this room. We looked around and realised there was nothing luxurious at all. The bed was firm but any movement the frame work holding the bed up squeaked, pillows and bedding extremely cheap and tired. The bathroom spacious as on their website but resembles nothing like reality pictures as shown below. There was no soap for the shower only standard shampoo/conditioner and shower head rusty as was the electric radiator that didn’t work, towels threadbare in fact dreadful.Mini Bar- beers three months out of date along with muesli bar. We showed politely our unhappiness and was offered another room sadly it was a top floor, three storey suite not good for my 75 yr old husband. For compensation a meal was offered in the restaurant a concept that clearly doesn’t work and extortionately priced with a chef that clearly rules the roost his way only with no vegetables on offer except piped purées! Our breakfast delightful and served by Fiona and our housemaid Viola hilariously funny. We cut our stay short with staff left to deal with our unhappy stay although Matthew the owner never said a word. We left paying €2000 cash for 6 night.

Pro: it is in the very best location, in the center of historic old Valletta on a pedestrian street. Rooms are spacious, breakfast is made to order from a very nice menu. Reception answered all our sightseeing questions.
Con: the atmosphere of the hotel and staff is uncomfortable and weird . The overall impression is trying to be elegant but instead being grim, dark, and definitely not like the cheerful, friendly feeling of the rest of the city. Rooms are large but cold, and not appealing and the shower is part of the bathroom, with no curtain or door so half the bathroom is wet and dangerously slippery. The staff is either rude ( when I asked if we could change rooms because our room faced onto a dark courtyard and we literally could not see the sky or even much light, I was told that maybe we should try the Melia hotel instead!), unfriendly ( when we paid extra to have someone at the hotel meet us at the airport to take us to the hotel, the person who met us was late and never said anything to us, not even "welcome to Malta"), or overly obsequious/servile and almost scared. No one seemed comfortable or genuinely friendly.
Location, cleanliness and food are excellent, staff and general atmosphere is weird if not depressing.

I put it average, but I could have put it well.. The hotel is ideally placed for visiting Valletta, hotel with a touch of class... Attentive and friendly staff..a quality, made-to-order lunch.. The only problem, the room was on two levels with a pseudo-design decoration in smooth concrete with no real separation from the bathroom. The terrace, certainly with a view of the port, is a little small. However, I was a little disappointed by the room, the travel agency having shown me something else (certainly another of the 9 rooms) And last, unfortunately, this unpleasant smell coming from the interior courtyard and intermittently a smell of rising sewer coming from the bathroom.. It's a shame, without these major drawbacks, the hotel offers a good service Hoping it was an accident

Celebrated my 30th birthday at Casa Ellul. We stayed in Room 2; very clean- spick and span, filled with natural light and most of all it gave us a feeling of being in the heart of the City of Valletta. The Receptionist was very helpful especially when ordering a bottle of prosecco; they also gave us cake :)
Breakfast was a very pleasant experience; as a matter of fact I had ordered eggs benedict and the selection of food was mouthwatering. The staff are very friendly and also offer sterling service.
Thank you Casa Ellul for making my 30th birthday one that I shall cherish throughout my whole life :)
highly recommended and value for money!

Wonderful hotel, we have stayed here several times in recent years and it is always an uplifting experience. We stayed in suite 5 the piano noble suite, extremely comfortably bed with a eye to detail regarding design. The breakfast was delicious, eggs Benedict are to die for.

This hotel is simply a gem in the heart of Valetta run by Matthew Ullul and his amazing international experienced and kind staff, including Sabrina from Argentina, Rose from the Philippines, Peter from Austria, and many others. The rooms are spacious and quiet. The service is impeccable. The restaurant Risette with its chef Steve Scicluna is quite something else. We ate there twice as the food was exceptional with many dishes reaching Michel star level, even though Risette does not even have a recommendation in the Michelin Guide, let alone a star. Well, it was our gain! Risette has an interesting wine list and a very varied, original menu, predominantly with French influences, but not overly heavy, and serious value for money. We will be back in Malta this year, if only to stay and eat at casa Ullul and Risette!!

Wonderful little find. Down a side street off the main strip away from bars/restaurants so quieter part of Valletta. Alfredo was amazing, very friendly & helpful and always had a smile on his face.
We were in Suite 3 (the room with the bathtub in the photos) and it was lovely. Little juliet balcony, living area and comfortable bed. Could probably have done with an extra pillow but didn't ask. Sufficient toiletries and towels were provided as well as robes as slippers.
Although it's opposite the church, the bells only woke us up early on one of the mornings. Breakfast had a great choice and we were encouraged to order as much as possible! (They appreciate ordering at reception the night before which was fine).
Complimentary water & chocolates every day and we were allowed to check in early, and check out was late (noon) as standard.
