The Preluna Hotel, while offering a modern atmosphere with romantic touches, has received mixed feedback from guests. While the cleanliness of the hotel generally impresses, with rooms often described as immaculate, the hotel's value is questioned due to misleading room descriptions and additional charges. Rooms vary, with positive remarks on their tidiness and views but negative points for noise and dated decor. The service is predominantly seen as friendly, though issues with room availability have been noted. The hotel's location is favored for its convenience, but noise can be an issue. Amenities like the gym and breakfast are popular, despite some concerns about spa cleanliness and access to facilities.

We were at the Preluna hotel in May 2024 for 5 days. Strengths: good location, not all rooms with a sea view, we had, very good communication 100 m to the bus stop, great connection to Valletta, close to the airport, lots of shops and bars on the promenade where you can eat delicious food, among others: local specialties, good breakfast, large selection, we rate the hotel staff as 5 - very nice, obliging and helpful, nice swimming pool 150 meters from the hotel, right by the sea with free sunbeds and umbrellas, plus a bar, access to the sea via a ladder. The rooms were of a standard appropriate to the class of the hotel, the air conditioning worked, there was a ceiling fan, a safe was included in the price, a big plus, and a fridge. Skybar on the 14th floor, great view of Sliema and Valletta.
Weak points: location on a busy street, it's impossible to sleep with the terrace window open, 2 elevators, one of which was broken for 2 days, at some point 2 didn't work and you had to use your shoes or the goods elevator (failure in the case of e.g. floors from 3-to 12). The hotel is constantly being renovated and there is always noise and dust after breakfast. The bathroom is the weakest point, the bathtub with glass is covered with silicone, new silicone is put on the fungus in a terrible way, the effect is terrible, there is no ventilation in the bathroom. High prices in the bar on the ground floor and even higher in the skybar. Opposite the hotel there is a bar where prices are lower. Of course, like almost everywhere, there are no PL channels. Additionally, a supposedly modern solution, i.e. the room card is used to activate the elevator - very impractical (supposedly for use only by hotel guests, but no one enters the hotel from the street to ride the elevator).

This hotel has pros and cons
Dont come here if you want luxury
The rooms are basic
You will be fooled when booking a balcony room that you will get a room with a view this is a lie and the pictures on line are fake you will be able to touch the next building from your balcony and I am not joking, while the beds are comfortable they are all single beds and the pillows are terrible,, you get one huge pillow and one tiny thing, the room really are basic air con doesn’t work asked 3 staff and all told me a different story and times when it should work it never did and when you do turn it its so loud as is the fan,
The building working the hotel is doing starts around 7am and it loud not just from machines but workers screaming and shouting and goes all day in to the evening,
Food is basic and lukewarm at best the breakfast buffet is a free for all, and again lukewarm coffee is ok
The lifts have a mind of their own and take forever,
Our whole stay the roof top bar was closed for a private function no mention of this on their website any of their social media and not even in their welcome letter even tho I messaged a few weeks before and was told its open and taking bookings?? which is one of the reasons for booking this hotel and staff just shrugged their shoulders couldn’t have cared sadly,
The spa while it is nice don’t use it if your wanting a relaxing chilled time the locals (mostly arriving 4-5pm) use it for a get together are so loud and they don’t care even if your sleeping,
Steam room need improvement
But the sauna is good and very hot pool is small but nice the spa is dark no lighting apart from the pool lights so cant read a book etc bed are the mostly uncomfortable I’ve ever tired using and you want pool shoes cos the spa floor will try and kill you,
Gym is good and well equipped,
The hotel location is ok 5/10 mins to the ferry’s
there is a brilliant restaurant across the road gorgeous food,
Staff mostly are ok but don’t really want to go out of their way,
While it was an ok hotel wouldn’t stay again but all I would say is the pictures aren’t true
Free wifi is open so not safe to use if you want protected wifi you have to pay more,
There seems lots of hidden extra charges,
Cleaners are friendly and polite,

The hotel is a central location in Sliema with only a short walk to great restraunts and the Valetta ferry station. It is only a twenty minutes walk along the promenade to St Julians bars and night life. Sliema is great for shopping with something for everyone, from a centre full of big name designer shops to a Next and Marks and Spencers.

The hotel is well equipped, the rooms are comfortable with stunning views of the ocean and coast line. The Sky Lounge is lovely with spectacular views of the island and the ocean, in the evening you can see the lights on the Sicily coast line. The general restraunt is ok with lots of choice for breakfast and dinner. The food is not the best but is ok for occasional dining. We found out when checking out that you are charged for the table water we ordered at dinner, do something to watch out for. This is the reason for rating 4 bubbles, not 5.

The staff are lovely, very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately though the lifts kept breaking down so we had to walk up and down to the 11th floor on a few occasions.

The spa, gym and pools are not actually in the hotel itself and are a short walk away. The hotel is great for a walking/exploring holiday and not really suitable for those that like to sit by the pool all day, nor is it geared for young families.

Thank you Samantha for your review. We are so happy that you enjoyed your stay with us at The Preluna and had a lovely experience in MAlta. We do serve bottled wated in glass bottles which we recieve in large bottles as a part of our reduce plastic scheme. Tap water is not served at the restaurants but I will bring it to the attention to advise diners accordingly. Thank you once again and we look forward to seeing you again.

After reading some of the reviews on trip advisor I was slightly worried about our visit to the preluna hotel but honestly there was no need. We arrived to the hotel at 11am and were given a welcome drink then shown on request to the toilet to freshen up and then escorted to the baggage holding area (as check in was 2pm). As it was extremely humid myself and my friend went out for an hour for lunch and had to return to the hotel - the staff had no problem with us sitting in the lobby to keep cool until our check in time.

We were shown to our room (a balcony non sea view room) and it was absolutely immaculate. The aircon and room fan kept us very cool (which with 90% humidity some nights we were very grateful). Our room was on the 12th floor but I would really recommend it - you could see the building work from our balcony if you looked down but not at any point could we hear it during the day (this may be because we were higher up). I had originally emailed asking if we could pay to upgrade our room to a sea view room as the trip was for my upcoming 30th birthday - I got an email saying no rooms were available but I arrived into the room with a birthday cake made of towels! A really kind and lovely touch. They also allocated us a room that if you sat in the left of the balcony you could actually see the sea :)

Breakfast was great - a full English & continental spread. There was a big variety for everyone! A full English, cooked meats, breads, cereals, yoghurts, juice etc. The cooked breakfast wasn’t the most amazing thing but they did a lot of variety of eggs (something I don’t eat myself) but they catered for however you like them cooked. Plenty of coffee machines & clean plates and cutlery. Staff very quick to take dirty plates too. I can’t speak for the evening meals as we did not eat there!

A special mention to one the staff members in the lobby - I can’t remember his name but it began with an A. He was so friendly and kind. All the staff were friendly with smiles on their faces and nothing was any bother. We also really enjoyed the preluna beach club across the road.

We wouldn’t hesitate to return to the preluna and will 100% be recommending this to other people. Both me and my friend had a lovely experience!

On the plus side this hotel is in a very good central position, the staff are incredibly nice and our room on the 12th floor was amazing, large, clean and lovely views. The hotel are having major refurbishing works done and while the noise levels didn't disturb us, the lorries, cement mixers and cranes outside made life difficult. There were major problems with the lifts, when we arrived one was working and the other was being rebuilt which would take several weeks. The second lift then broke down and we were left with the small rickety service lift which then eventually broke down too. One evening all guests were left to climb the stairs to their rooms (12 floors). The service lift was repaired but could only take 4 people at a time which caused many problems and rows. The hotel had no lounge to sit in only a seating area off reception which constantly ran out of chairs. The restaurant was basic, food very repetative and lunch time very sparse. As a party of four we found it very difficult to find a table and the restaurant manager took no control over the seating of the guests. As a whole we feel that the hotel should not be accepting more guests until the building works are completed, it is not comfortable and feels unsafe.

An absolutely fabulous 3 week stay in every respect. The hotel's location on the promenade is perfect & enables access to all places around the island as buses stop on either side of the road. Public transport is cheap & efficient. A weekly pass is 25 euros.
Our room was on the 10th floor & was comfortable & extremely clean thanks to Maria & the housekeeping team. It was well worth paying extra for the sea view.
The public areas were always very clean. We received a warm welcome on arrival & found the reception team friendly & helpful, particularly Emma.
We stayed on a half board basis & the food & service were exceptional!
There was so much choice at breakfast & dinner. Each night had a different food theme & the music played reflected the chosen theme.
On Valentine's Day the restaurant excelled in that the staff had decorated the staircase & and the dining room with balloons, hearts & petals. The table settings added a lovely finishing touch to the evening. The menu was 5 star too.
The restaurant staff are to be highly commended for their efficiency, friendliness & attention to detail, particularly Alejandro, Juliana & Samson.
We are already planning to return next year. Thanks to everyone concerned.

We have visited multiple times for many years but this was an horrendous stay in the middle of a building site, noise, drilling, dirt, cement mixers. Management did not inform us at time of booking. Lifts broken, been unreliable for years, having to use service lift, one night that broke down so no lifts. 13 floors. One female toilet downstairs for a hotel very busy. Tatty, broken ripped seats in bar area, which is the only place for guests to relax as TV lounge is closed off. Rude, aggressive daytime duty manager. Restaurant is a shambles some days. Stained seats and dirty mats, often with untrained staff, tables left uncleared, staff shortages, more like a cafeteria. Management full of excuses. We have had several meetings with senior staff to get reassurance that things will improve…….. we have no confidence that some of them will do anything to make any significant changes. I feel that the hotel is taking guests money to pay for improvements for future guests and not giving us what we’ve paid for. This hotel should have been closed while building work is completed. It has been going on for years now. We are so disappointed and feel let down and also sorry for Reception staff who are being moaned at constantly by disgruntled guests. Even the WiFi is useless!

The reviews of the Preluna have overstated the problems this winter. I agree there was some noise and the failure of the lifts was inconvenient but, unlike one reviewer we sat on the balcony every morning quite happily. We were close to the lifts bur the drilling did not prevent conversation. The restaurant staff did not wander about aimlessly but cleared tables efficiently nor did we have a problem finding a table. Our party agree we will return to the Preluna next year and enjoy the excellent food, pleasant staff and of course the new lifts!

Just back from a lovely stay at the Preluna. I arrived boxing day and left on NYE.

I had booked a sea view room and was allocated one one the 10th floor with a sweeping view over the coast.

Room was nice and clean with enough storage for me for 5 nights.

Bathroom was a good size and had shampoo, conditioner, body lotion and hand soap supplied along with shower caps and 'vanity' packs with earbuds and cotton wool.

There was a basic hairdryer in the vanity unit which was OK but would probably take my own if I visit again.

There was a fridge in the room which was very handy - but no mini bar.
Tea, coffee and milk and sugar supplied and refreshed daily.
TV in room was OK but limited English channels but enough for what I needed

Bed was comfy and made every day.

The view from balcony was great with views over to Valetta to St Julian s bay.

Room service was available and I tried it once or twice and the service and food was good.

Used the pool and gym which were both good. The gym was very well equipped for a hotel.

All the staff I spoke to were very friendly and helpful and made me feel very welcome.

As a solo female traveller I felt very safe and relaxed at The Preluna and would definitely stay again if I return to Malta.

This is response I had from hotel couple of days ago: PRELUNA HOTEL EXTENSION As previously mentioned, we are in the process of extending the Towers Block by three additional floors. This phase of the construction is well underway. Hotel facilities will remain fully operational during the construction period: • A replacement for the sun terrace will be available at the Skyroom starting from 1st November, ensuring guests can still enjoy outdoor relaxation and views. Effected rooms: Some seaview rooms may be visually affected occasionally. Noise disturbance to the full block will be minimal once operational. Anticipated Finishing date: 30th April 2025 Neighbouring Block Construction As you are already aware, there is also construction taking place on a neighbouring site. While the work on this site has been at a minimum recently, it is expected to resume more actively in mid-November. The construction site is visible from some of our Inland balcony rooms, there will be minimal noise and visual disturbance to our clients. Effected rooms: Some Inland Balcony rooms may be visually and audibly affected. Anticipated Finishing date: Structural/construction works to be completed late 2025

Usually sea view rooms can see the sea, however, in November, I was in a sea view room and I could just about see the sea. Just where it sea meets the promenade. Usually can see the wide espanse of the sea.
