Daydream is a wonderful place if you're looking for laid-back surroundings, beautiful sea views, quiet afternoons by the pool(s) and clean, modern rooms with sun catching terraces.

Set 2 minutes down the road from the quaint village square in Xaghra (sha-ra) Daydream is typical of the island itself. Always peaceful, always welcoming, pleasant to be around and full of nice little surprises. Mehdi and Caroline - a young French couple - have done a tremendous job creating a comfortable environment not just with the rooms and pools but with the guests too. At breakfast you'll find yourself in conversation talking about the day before and what's to come later on. If you're lucky, at some point you may even get invited to a bit of wine tasting down the road where you'll be free to sample beautiful whites, beautiful reds, olives, sausages, jams, some more whites, some more reds etc, etc. All the produce was from a local farm (sadly I've forgotten the name of the charming lady who shared so many of her wares with us) and you'll even get a passionate and unpretentious masterclass from Mehdi on how to appreciate a fine wine's qualities.
I would describe the atmosphere of Daydream as subtly sociable in that you didn't have to share your holiday with the other guests but there was a nice rapport going on which I felt was probably the norm. Perhaps this was because the breakfast of local fruit, yoghurts, eggs (done to your liking), local cakes and other daily delights baked by Mehdi and Caroline tended to draw us all out of bed at the same time and put everyone in a good mood.

Throughout the day there was enough space to feel like you had the place to yourself. One pool if not both were always free and the room was spacious enough to be a home from home. Our room (erghba) was the most expensive due to the spacious terrace that looked out on a sweeping valley of orange groves and vineyards, down to the neighbouring resort of Marsalforn then out to sea. The terrace itself didn't disappoint with a double bed/lounger perfect for sunbathing or post-dinner snoozing. It got sun almost all day and had a nice table and chairs perfect for backgammon and cold beers. If I went back (and if I go to Malta I definitely will) I'd go with erghba again because although the views were more or less the same as some other rooms, that extra bit of space made it feel that little bit more luxurious at not much extra cost. If you were happy with a smaller balcony or just lying by the pool when you weren't in your room then I'm sure the other rooms would be fine though. Either way the ambience is the same and you'll still come home from dinner to a candlelit living room and a comfortable bed regardless.

During the day, if you got thirsty there was a big communal fridge stocked with cheap beers, wines, cokes, juice and water perfect for stocking up before you set out to the beach or just to take out to the pool. There was a coffee pod machine and tea too and this all operated on an 'honesty bar' system typical of the b'n'b's easy going charm.

If you wanted some inspiration or the benefit of local knowledge Caroline and Mehdi were typically accommodating when it came to any questions about how to get where and what to to do for dinner. Nothing seemed too much trouble, my girlfriend even lost her earring in the sink and Mehdi kindly dismantled it for us to find it - not quite superhero material but it was the sort of thing that was 'not a problem' to them when with other people it might have been.

The village itself was gorgeous with pretty houses lining the narrow streets and a huge church that served as a backdrop to the restaurants in the square. A surprise for us was that another minute or two down the road stood some Unesco ancient ruins twice as old and twice as tall as stone henge and no less impressive. The views, as with most places in Malta and Gozo were consistently delightful and it's easy to get to nearby resorts and towns with a long walk or short bus ride.
The weather was always hot but not oppressive and the people were friendly and spoke great english, so much so that even road signs are in english so don't feel bad for not learning the local lingo. Gozo isn't blessed with hundreds of sandy beaches but Ramla Bay is only one bus stop away and does have the big sandy beach if it's a deal breaker.

Never stayed at a B&B before, but have been converted by this place, which is amazing, we're already planning to return.
It's run by a lovely young French couple, Caroline and Mehdi, who are charming, friendly and helpful.
The location is convenient for the pleasant village of Xaghra, with many restaurants just a stroll away.
The property is immaculate, luxurious and tasteful, it has 4 very attractive letting rooms each with a balcony and beautiful sea views.
As well as peaceful private grounds with 2 gorgeous pools.
The food is incredible, can not believe the trouble Mehdi went to, in making delicious gluten-free dishes for my daughter's breakfast every morning, wouldn't get this service anywhere else, not even at The Grand Hotel!
Can recommend 100%

My Wife & I stayed at Daydream for the Malta leg of our honeymoon.
Can’t remember the name of the room we occupied, it had a decent size balcony overlooking the pools and landscape, it was clean, and relatively spacious. Good shower.
The BnB has a decent amount of common area, of which it didn’t take us long to feel like we were at home.
The pool side was majestic, enough lounges for all even considering the missus broke one :) and those views....
Continental breakfast was good, healthy options and eggs variously made were offered daily. Nice touch that that they make the rooms up during breakfast.
The BnB is very well located, 150m to Xaghra square which hosts several restaurants, and after also experiencing a few in Victoria, Xaghra ones we thought were much better.
I strongly recommend walking around the Citidel in Victoria after dinner, it was like we had the place to ourselves other that a few other couples taking their own bottle of wine up there to enjoy the night time views.

Mehdi & Caroline were fantastic, very easy to communicate with and couldn’t do enough to make sure we were on the right path with our daily ventures. I personally think that because they are well travelled themselves it is reflected in their knowledge of quality service, or maybe they’re just great people.

We stayed at Daydream Gozo for a week after a busy week on Malta. It was the perfect holiday - full of surprises, lots of walking and relaxing in the beautiful environment set up by Caroline and Mehdi. This includes fantastic breakfasts and beautiful outdoor pools!
If you're needing direction about where to go and how to get there, there is a wealth of great information available in the lounge about local resources (eg buses) and Mehdi and Caroline are ready with advice.
Xaghra is a lovely town; quiet and peaceful. Although Daydream may not seem to be at the centre of the action, most things on Gozo are easily accessible even by public transport. Get to know the buses - easy access to the whole island from stops very near Daydream;
Some of the things we loved:
D'Avenue restaurant on the square;
D'Scene hole in the wall cafe for pastizzi;
Being in the Xaghra town square in the evenings;
Walking to Marsalforn, Ramla and Victoria then bussing back up the hill;
Swimming in Ramla at a lovely sandy beach
Cliff top walks, a magical harbour swim and great food at Xlendi;
Watching Santa Maria fireworks ( in Victoria) from the cemetery lookout down the road from Daydream.
Car not needed; buses fabulous.

Stayed late September, we had the top floor room which was lovely and airey with a great balcony, the sun does not get to all the balcony at this this time of year. You get a very good welcome and made to feel that you can use any part of the downstairs area including the lovely outside area around the pools. Breakfast was lovely with fresh orange juice just squeezed and something cooked or baked every morning that is different (loved them all...) . You have a great view of the vista down to the sea in the distance. Its only a 10 minutes slow stroll to the main square that has a choice of places to eat and drink and has a lovely ebb and flow to it. Love the island and loved staying here on this visit. It is very well named because you could just while away days but whilst we found it relatively easily maybe a bit more thought on the signage would be helpful.

Dear Happychickens, Thank you for choosing Daydream! We love that you loved our breakfast and noticed we try to make it different everyday. Xaghra is indeed a lovely, and lively village, the square is one of the liveliests in Gozo. We've noted your suggestion about signage and will try to improve it. Happy to read that you daydreamed during your stay :-) We hope we can welcome you during your next stay on Gozo!

Had a lovely time at daydream b&b and will be recommending it to my family if they visit next year. Easily the nicest and best run B&B I have been to. Relaxed atmosphere, two pools, a balcony with sunshine and views, and all really nicely decorated. They seem to have thought of everything you could want - with cold drinks, and snacks available for a reasonable price, local info, and a warm welcome.
The setting for breakfast allows you to chat to your fellow travelers if you chose to (which we did - even bumping into them again in Sliema!), handy for sharing information and experiences.
It was a 6 minute stroll into the center of Xaghra with 5-6 restaurants. Xaghra was a good location too for us - very central on the island so easy to get around.
Will be back!

In our 3 week trip through Sicily and Malta, this was the best place we stayed. We loved the location, on the fringes of the lovely village Xaghra, our room had views across the country to the sea. The room was quiet, nicely sized and very comfortable, and we enjoyed the gardens, balcony and pool. However the best feature was the warm and accommodating attitude of our hosts Medhi and Caroline, who turned their guesthouse into a home away from home, cooked excellent breakfasts, made great recommendations, and could not have been more welcoming. We hope to be back one day!

We booked our stay at Daydream bed and breakfast based on the fact that it looked beautiful but it also seemed friendly. We were not disappointed! The villa is beautiful and all of the rooms are thoughtfully decorated. It offered two pools and with their only being a few guests at one time, you often felt like you had your own private swimming pool - lovely!

Caroline and Mehdi were the perfect hosts - they were very friendly, interesting and knowledgeable about the island. It was also interesting to hear about their travels and experiences that brought them to Gozo.

We stayed in the Hamsa room. It was even better than the pictures on the website and the views from the balcony in the daytime and the evening were wonderful over the valley and down to the sea. Everywhere was spotlessly clean and the beds were very comfortable.

Breakfast was a veritable feast. A variety of choice every morning with delicious cakes cooked by Caroline and tasty savoury choices freshly cooked by Mehdi each day. I am still dreaming about the cakes!!

Further to this, Caroline and Mehdi helped us to book taxis, decide on our daily excursions, let us borrow fishing gear, snorkels and took us to a wine tasting evening at Ta Mena with the other guests - we loved that evening!

A great stay, I would highly recommend this lovely place for your base when exploring Gozo!

Thank you Caroline and Mehdi!
