Hotel Kria garners appreciation for its stylish decor and spotless facilities, particularly the modern, clean bathrooms. The rooms, while evoking mixed reactions regarding size and temperature, are celebrated for their contemporary feel and tidiness. Guests frequently commend the central location in Vik, which offers seamless access to nearby attractions. The staff's warm service, including thoughtful Northern Lights alerts, receives high marks. However, some visitors feel that the hotel's value proposition is undercut by the absence of certain amenities like mini-fridges and spa services.

The Hotel Kria was exactly what I hoped for. A bit of the austere modernity that I've come to expect from Iceland with the warmth of her people to keep things "cozy".
This hotel sits right across the street from the black sand beach of Vik and the wild Atlantic ocean.
After 2 COVID cancellations we were lucky enough to finally get to stay in the hotels only suite. It was GORGEOUS.
The front desk staff were super friendly and even advised on where to get some awesome Icelandic Pizza.

Our room was my favourite of all we stayed at in Iceland. Warm, heavy plush bedding, a delicious sitting area overlooking the ocean view (we even saw a rider exercising their horse on the beach). Two tv's in the room, one in the sleeping area and one in the living room space.
The bathroom was amazing!! The tub could have held 3 people and was so deep and luxurious. The shower stall was also huge and had a variety of different shower settings. The bathroom amenties included shampoo and conditioner, lotion and even these really neat individual loofa sponges.
The room also came with a coffee/tea maker and a variety of different flavoured pods.
We stayed for two days and enjoyed the included ample breakfast buffet both days.

This hotel was conveniently located to everything in Vik and it was all within walking distance. It was also convenient to the Skogafoss waterfall and a great glacier snowmobile excursion on Mýrdalsjökull Glacier.
I highly recommend this hotel (and the Suite if you can score it)

This hotel has the wow factor. The decor is beautiful in muted tones and the whole place is dimly lit to create a calm atmosphere which suits Vik, and it’s mystical beach. After lots of walking I was very very happy to see the huge, modern bathtub complete with essential oil infused bath salts. A lovely touch was the mini, complimentary wines and chocolates. The bed was nice and firm and the first bed in Iceland not to give me back pain. The staff were really lovely and helpful, we had a drink in the bar and breakfast was great too with stunning views over the mountainside. I didn’t want to leave, I really loved it there.

Nice and modern hotel.
The rooms are a bit cold, but have a good supply of electric radiators to provide on request. So. problem solved.
Good cuisine
At midnight pleasant fireworks display and toast offered by the hotel

Well, this hotel was the biggest disappointment of our entire trip. It looks cozy and stylish, but the service is terrible, and the rooms have serious issues!

First of all, when I entered our room for the first time, it smelled like dust! On top of that, a loud metallic noise appeared. I went to the reception, and they casually said, “Oh, it could be a problem with the radiator.” They were right, and the issue was temporarily fixed by turning it off and on. But when I woke up at midnight because of the same noise—well, that was not funny at all. As for the smell, the guy at reception simply said, “I don’t smell any dust. Just open the window for a bit.” Great advice—except not in Iceland in February when it’s snowing, raining, and hailing!

Second, the restaurant service was a disaster. We checked in at 9:15 PM, and they told us it was impossible to order any food or even snacks. However, the advertisement in the room clearly states that food is available until 10 PM. So, we were left hungry with no options at the hotel!

Third, the breakfast. At first glance, it looked nice—scrambled eggs, beans, smoked salmon, hash browns, and two types of cheese. But the taste? Awful. Everything was made from cheap ingredients and had a plastic-like flavor. And don’t even get me started on the “juices.”

Overall, I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone. You won’t be treated as you expect!

Be careful when choosing this hotel. The staff is not professionally trained and very rude. Actually the rudest staff I’ve encountered in all my travels and I’m lucky to have traveled a lot.

We arrived 3.5 hours before checkin after a long transatlantic flight. Having driven 3+ hours straight from the airport, we asked for early checkin. I told the woman in the front desk that we were really exhausted from the trip and if we could rest a bit until our room is available and she told us that all rooms were being cleaned and that we could use the sofas upstairs until our room would be ready at 3pm. Being extremely jet lagged we fell asleep at some point. After a while the woman at the desk woke us up telling us that we’re not supposed to sleep at the public couches (which was fair) and she informed us that our room would be ready soon.

At the front desk she asked us for early checkin fee. I was not familiar with this fee and I asked for the manager. I told the manager that in the past never had to pay early checkin fee in other countries. If a room was available earlier it would be priced at no extra cost. The manager told me verbatim that “this is typical in Iceland and we’re not here to negotiate booking fees with a customer” in a very aggressive manner instead of trying to explain to me in professionally polite way how things operate. My wife also asked about this and he said verbatim “that he’s not here to negotiate the hotel policy and if we don’t like it we can release our room so that he can rent it to someone else”. These are the exact words he used… that’s how he chose to resolve this misunderstanding. Not by trying to educate in a professional manner a customer who just arrived in this country, but by choosing a “my way or the highway” response.

Other than that, I have to be objective about the hotel. The ambience looked amazing and I’m sure most guests will have quite a good time. But I feel sorry for those who might have to resolve something with the management. They lack professionalism and basic communication skills. That’s not the type of services you would expect for staff in a 3-star hotel.

Outcome: We ended up canceling our room. Not because of the early checkin fee. But by the way the manager treated us. His sheer lack of respect towards us for something that he could resolve trivially by being polite, positive and friendly was the deciding factor. Such a shame that hotels of this caliber need to suffer from poorly skilled professionals like this one.

My husband and I stayed at Hotel Kria for 2 nights. I picked this hotel based on its good reviews and close proximity to the Black Sand Beach and Skool Beans. I would be hesitant to believe if someone said there was a better hotel in Vik because our stay was truly great. The breakfast offered a wide range of foods catering to different nationalities. I had my first taste of Skyr and oh-my-gosh…it was amazing. It was in a central location within Vik and our room had a view of the mountain that was behind the hotel. The staff was lovely and the bartenders were knowledgeable and accommodating. I will definitely recommend staying here to friends traveling to Iceland.

This was the most expensive hotel out of 12 along the Ring Road, and unfortunately was the one with the worst value for money. I have no major complaints about the room, although it was rather small and one of those soulless rooms you will never remember. When I got to my room with a “Mountain View” I felt like a fish in the fishbowl with tons of camper vans staring at me. I kept my curtains closed at all times. I noticed though that if you get a room in the west wing (above the restaurant) then you get advertised views. If you must stay in the hotel, request a room in that part of the hotel (obviously they won’t promise).

This is a lovely, spa-like, hotel within short walking distance of the black sand beach and restaurants. The room was very comfortable and quiet; the breakfast buffet was a step above some we had at other hotels. The front desk staff was excellent. At check in, a wonderful, kind, Scottish woman told us exactly where and when we could see puffins. We ran into her later outside and she took time to chat and show us the exact “ wee path” to the puffins.

This is a very average hotel. It caters to tour buses with the mass rushes and hassle that entails. It is right on the roundabout on route 1 so rooms facing the road are noisy. You certainly don’t feel that you are away in a remote spot. We have stayed at a number of Iceland hotels on this trip and for this price point ($300+/night) it was disappointing. The dining room is disorganized and the service is rude. The morning buffet is poor offering the worst selection we have encountered across multiple hotels. The buffet opens at 7 am and is not ‘refreshed’ regularly leaving little to chose from. The rooms are small and the pictures shown here are very misleading - the walls are cheap arborite instead of the slate or textured concrete they appear in photos. The common area decor is very nice.

We had 2 standard rooms and the junior suite at hotel Kria and enjoyed the stay for our family of 6. The hotel is in a central location in Vik, right on route 1 and across the street from a good grocery store and shopping center (Icewear, souvenirs, bakery). The staff were friendly and check in and check out was smooth. Rooms were very comfortable and clean. We didn't have dinner at the hotel since there were several options in Vik we enjoyed.

As we didn't need laundry that time, can't be 100% sure. Though, as staff was very helpful, they will probably find laundry service for you even if they don't offer it in hotel. I'd suggest to ask them directly, hotelkria@hotelkria.is I had flat tire when arrived to hotel late evening... and they managed to get service time for me early next morning, even though it was weekend and service closed.
