Detailed Reviews
Rooms were clean but small, sound insulation was a bit iffy in the corridor as I could hear other guests talking/walking in the corridor and opening/closing doors but I heard almost nothing from the street.
Lighting controls were a bit confusing as there seems to be switches hidden in different places throughout the room. I wasn’t able to find the switch for ceiling lights until I almost went to sleep. Feels like an office or something that someone may have converted into private rooms.
It’s essentially a hostel but with single rooms. It does not have a 24hr desk, the desk opens at 8am which is kind of a pain as most package tours pickup at 8, which means you’ll have to do a key drop instead of normal checkout, but breakfast is at 7 so it works.
Location is great, the tourist zone/old city is literally across the street and bus stop 10 Hlemmur (where a lot of tours pickup/drop off) is just around the corner (1 min walk).
I was a solo guy traveler so I don’t really care whether my hotel is luxurious since I don’t plan to be staying there very much anyways. If I was with a significant other, I probably would opt to go for a more luxurious location but maybe that’s just me.
Overall, it’s clean, it’s small, good location, it’s not the Ritz. You get what you pay for.

If you have a car and you want to explore the city I think this is a really strategic hotel, they do have an internal car parking but be aware that is first come, first served, It's also really small so might be a thing to consider. Luckily I have been in low season so i was able to find a spot not so far from the building.
I chose a single room with share bathroom: the room was really nice with a huge window facing the road, so could be a bit noisy but I had my earplugs and i slept really well. There's also a sink inside that is more helpful than what you can tough!Bathroom was small, but functionally with shampoo and body wash included, be ready for the strong geothermal smell.
Customer service is the real wow factor. I made an enquiry asking for some info and they send me a lot of useful stuff (Thanks Zhana!) It's also possible to book tours from the reception.
breakfast was included and I really enjoyed it!

A good stay just in the beginning of of the main street of the city. Middle standard, good sized room and a very comfortable bed (have a bad back). No toilet but a basin in the room, there were 4 bathrooms on our floor and we never had to wait for our turn. Fridge in the room, supermarket around the corner. Breakfast is not huge but enough to keep you going a couple of hours, even if they didn't have gluten free bread. Very helpful staff.
Rather busy road outside side entrance, a bus stop just outside where they can remain for quite a while with the engine on, so if you like to sleep with an open window it's wise to ask for a room towards the other side.

Pros: this is very reasonably priced for Reykjavik. It is round the corner from bus stop 10 for tour pick ups, the Hlemmur bus station and a 1-11 grocery store; it is at the far end of Laugevegur and so there are plenty of shops, cafes and restaurants a short walk away. The receptionist was friendly and helpful. Cons: reception is only open between 4pm and 11pm. Outside those hours you are on your own. There is currently no breakfast provided (though my room had a fridge). Shared bathroom only (the room had a small wash basin) and with a lot of people using it, it suffers accordingly. Thin walls: the people on either side of my room shouted in to the small hours and again from early morning. I heard EVERYTHING whether I wanted to or not. Ear plugs therefore are essential. It was OK as I was out on tours during the day, but it was OK as a place to leave my stuff. Due to the noise I didn't sleep brilliantly and in retrospect I should have paid more for my creature comforts. I like to relax in the evening after a hike/tour.

Receptionist was very rude & unwelcoming; she even raised her voice at me. She put me on a room with shared bathroom even though I booked a room with private bathroom & provided evidence; receptionist just dismissed me. Elevator is unsafe, small, & shakes terribly as if there’s an earthquake. I’ve never felt so scared at an elevator. Budget hostels have better service than this place. Don’t be in the hospitality industry if you can’t provide a good service. I gave 1 star since the location is a 20 minute walk from the shopping area & there’s a bus stop & small grocery across the street.

There are a couple of things to recommend 4th Floor Hotel. It is right off Laugavegar, which is the main shopping street with lots of restaurants. The room was clean. There is lots of travel information in the lobby. Unfortunately, there were only 3 parking spaces. Street parking is free from 6 in the evening to 9 in the morning. Otherwise, you have to pay. We stayed in room 404. It was a little shabby. The door handle came off and base boards are separating from the wall. Worst of all the plumbing or something was making noises every 5 to 10 minutes all night long. If I had it to do all over again, I would not have stayed somewhere else.

Room Tip: Don't take Room 404. Also any room overlooking the street gets some street noise.

we stayed here for a few nights while in Reykjavik
while this hotel is a basic, the location is absolutely superb.
several bus stops right outside the door and 24/7 supermarket around the corner.
the main food/shopping strip just across the road
everything was very convienient from the hotel.
some others have commented about an odd smell, this is present but its the sulphur from the abundant hot water in iceland.
the staff were extremely pleasant and very helpful.
after one of our tours was cancelled, they recommend some local historically significant places to see, all within easy walking distance.
the breakfast was very good, choice of hot and cold breakfast items.

Great place to stay, staff were friendly and extremely helpful. Food was great and room was spotless clean. Will definitely stay here again on future trips to Iceland. All attractions are within walking distance and having 24 hour desk attendant makes it safe and secure

Very friendly and helpful staff. Parking was tricky. We first parked on the street until a spot opened in a small lot. Room had 2 twins and 1 queen bed. We were not there for long but beds were comfortable. Room was loud due to wind and road noise so light sleepers may need ear plugs.

This hotel is super central in beautiful Reykjavik. The bus from the Airport drops you right in front of the hotel. The local bus station "Hlemmur" is just behind the hotel. The breakfast was super excellent - quantity & variety. The staff is super helpful and rooms are basic but clean and silent. The best part it has a lift. You have lots of eating - Stokk is good bet, but skip the fine dinning connected to it.

Yes there is a shop across the street (next to the pen*s museum) but it's the more expensive of the 2 types of supermarket. If you walk a couple of min into town there is the cheaper supermarket. There is also a small fridge in the room.
Hi we paid for transfers from an icelandic site online who have an office in the airport
Just saw this question. This was the cheapest hotel we could find. Everything is so expensive in Reykjavik. For our money we got a inside room with a shared bath. Best thing was the breakfast. Good luck. : (
