Thingholt By Center Hotels earns high marks for its exceptional service and staff who are often described as attuned to guests' needs. The central location is a hit with guests eager to explore Reykjavik, despite some reports of sleep disturbances due to street noise. Cleanliness is well-regarded, with most guests finding the hotel tidy, though opinions on room comfort and amenities vary. The hotel's atmosphere is praised for its modern and unique design, but the value proposition has received mixed feedback due to room feature concerns and additional costs.

I read sooo many reviews for soo many hotels around Reykjavik and I am very glad I picked this one!
The entrance is tranquil and clean and the reception staff were very friendly! I wasn't sure what to expect from the rooms but given the fact you are staying in a city center I think it's pretty damn good. We were lucky enough to be on the 4th floor over looking the town. Are the rooms the biggest, no, however for the amount of time you actually spend in the room, for the 2 of us it really didn't matter. There was ample space for our 2 carry on bags and enough wardrobe space for hanging up bulky coats. You couldn't unpack everything but who does that really?? The bed was big and comfy and we had 2 single quilts which was perfect for us as I am always cold and my partner is not.
Heating was a little hit and miss but I just kept some layers in bed if I got cold, if it was warm then we just opened the vent which in the winter is all you would want as when a -5 wind is blowing in it sure cools down quickly!
The bathroom isn't like your conventional UK bathrooms as it was frosted glass all around but as I was staying with my boyfriend it didn't bother me. It also had a big shelf which was perfect to lay all the toiletries on and the shower had a little shelf which was enough for some shower gel and shampoo.
The shower does take a little while to warm up fully but you have to remember Iceland isn't run on combi boilers, it's all geothermal powered so don't expect an instant hot shower, but give it 5-7 mins and it's wonderful! Bathrobes and slippers were provided which was nice, especially when you have been walking around in big boots all day!
Breakfast was absolutely fine, there was a little bit of everything so there was always something depending on what we fancied. There was a selection of cereals, breads, fruit, cheese, cold meat and a nice small choice of hot food. I personally took advantage of having a croissant with some Skyr yoghurt everyday! Also choice of tea, coffee and juices. If you are expecting a Premier Inn buffet then this isn't the hotel for you but there will 100% be something to keep you going on the tours.

Hotel is in a GREAT location for restaurants and shops, and Bus Stop 3 is literally a 5 minute walk down a hill and this is where you would wait to be picked up for the tours.
If you are staying for a Saturday night then take some ear plugs as it does get noisy outside as the nightlife is pretty wild but wasn't a big issue as all the other nights were quiet.

We didn't have time to use the Spa but would 100% stay here again!

We arrived in the evening after a transfer from airport via blue lagoon. Reception staff were welcoming and check in was easy.
Room was on the 4th floor, standard double and beautifully spacious, plenty of room for bags and space to layer up. Tea and coffee available in room. The bed was amazingly comfy!!! No noise from outside (we did stay Sunday-Thursday).
Breakfast was delicious with lots of options and available from 7am which was good for filling up before trips out.
Staff very helpful in booking a taxi for return journey to airport (cost approx £90 which some people may want to consider).
Location was perfect for access to Reykjavik with plenty of restaurants and shops as well as close to bus stop 3 where a lot of tours can arrange pickup from.
Unfortunately did not have time to make use of the spa facilities on site.
Our trip to Reykjavik was definitely one to remember and the stay at Centerhotel Thingholt definitely added to this. Thank you!

My husband and I stayed at CenterHotel Thingholt a few months ago and were pleased with the hotel and location. We had a Loft Suite, which was very nice and roomy. Our room was located above a garage door, which was fairly loud but we are sound sleepers to it didn’t bother us much. We enjoyed the large selection of food and drink at breakfast every morning. The front desk staff was very helpful and answered many questions for us, as this was our first time in Iceland. The hotel is in a great location in Reykjavík and we walked to many areas of the city and it is only a few minute walk to the Blue Lagoon bus stop. We recommend CenterHotel Thingholt, particularly for first time visitors to Iceland, because of the helpful and information front desk staff, convenient location, lovely breakfast and comfy rooms.

Rooms are ridiculously tiny and there is no climate control. The room was scorching hot, and the only remedy was to open a small vent window to let cold air in, which also let in all the noise from the bars all night.

Bathrooms have glass walls, so going to the restroom is essentially giving a show to whomever else is in the room. I literally used the bathroom in the dining hall my entire trip.

In order to turn on the shower, I had to reach in at an angle that soaked my entire body with cold water as soon as I turned the nozzle.

The “spa” is just a hot tub. If you want a spa treatment, they have to call someone in. There is access to only one massage therapist, who is a man.

Breakfast was lousy at best. Powdered eggs are not appropriate for a respectable hotel. The plates and cups are mini, so several trips to the buffet are necessary. With only one working toaster, good luck having toast.

Lastly, the staff was rude and inattentive.

I would not recommend this place to anyone.

Clean, nice location, pleasant surroundings, very centrally located for everything in the centre of Reykjavik. We did take notice of previous posts and did not suffer any issues with nightclub noise as we were staying Sunday through Wednesday (and missed the Friday and Saturday nights).
We arrived in a snow storm. Please note that the bus drops you off at Bus Stop 3 - and in the snow and wind that was a 300m hike up the hill pulling our cases through heavy drifting snow. But the weather conditions were extreme.
The pavement outside the hotel was not cleared of snow (noting that other hotels and premises did make the effort)... made exiting a little exciting each time.
Apart from breakfast there is no restaurant facility, however the hotel is so close to many eateries that this really isn't needed (except in bad weather!). Also, even though there appear to be bar facilities, these are not staffed, and there is no way of getting a drink or coffee at any time (apart from the in-room facilities).
The room, although very adequate, warm, and clean, was lacking in storage space. There was nowhere to put your cases, and only a half single wardrobe and two small drawers to put any clothes. Hiking boots had to live under the sink in the bathroom. There was also no hotel information in the room, no written information regarding facilities, spa facilities or even the phone number for reception or the spa. This was the only real negitive side.
There was lots of advertising in the lift for various CenterHotel restaurants and bars, but it was not clear that these were not on this site (we overhead several people asking where the Sky bar was at reception). I suspect if the weather had not been so bad no-one would have been bothered, but the storm meant that going out in the event was a trek in itself, and getting to one of the other CenterHotels meant hiking boots, sticks, and full bad weather kit.
However, breakfasts were excellent.
We would certainly use this hotel again.

We have just got back from 4 nights at this hotel and we were very pleased with our stay! First to note is that all the staff were friendly and helpful! They let us check in a little early as our room was ready. The hotel itself is in a FANTASTIC location, a short walk to all the main attractions in Reykjavik. The hotel is very modern and the rooms are comfortable. Our room was clean and the beds were comfortable. The shower was great, super hot water and great pressure. Housekeeping came in everyday and there was the option to have the sheets changed daily if we had wanted it. In our room we had tea and coffee facilities, toiletries, iron & board, hair dryer ( I have long hair and can vouch for it! It was really good) and possibly the best perk of all a mini fridge ( with mini bar if you like) but we just took this stuff out and then used the fridge for our own food/drinks. The TV was large and had lots of English speaking channels, which for us being from the UK was nice. The next thing to mention is the Continental breakfast included in our stay! It was so good! They had everything you could want from Cereals, Fruit, Yoghurts, Bread, cheese, cold meats and Pastries as well as a hot selection including scrambled eggs, boiled eggs, bacon, sausages, beans and potatoes! We were pleasantly surprised as usually Continental usually means cold options only. The 'Spa' facilities were nice and clean, although you do have to pay extra to use them. We paid 25 Euros p.p for use of the spa for our whole trip. There is only a hot pool ( Very shallow for bathing rather than swimming, not a jacuzzi) and a steam room - so up to you if you want to pay for it. We only ended up using once so in hindsight probably wouldn't pay for it again but it was very relaxing and great for achy muscles. The only other thing to mention is parking. Whilst there is no free parking, there is parking on the road directly outside and being so centrally located there is lots of parking close by. You only pay from 0900-1800 during the week and 0900-1600 on a Saturday and Sunday is free. The parking charges are reasonable even though this is a P1 location. There was also always spaces when we arrived back. Everything at this hotel met our expectations and we would definitely stay again! Excellent value for money and a really enjoyable trip! Little tip would be that the rooms are a little on the smaller side, it wasn't really an issue for us as we were out most of the time and though a little small it had everything we needed! The lady at reception said the rooms on the top floor are usually larger but are in the eves so can lose head height but have lovely views!

Iceland is closed to international visitors until 15th June so you would expect the hotel to refund or offer a credit on a pre-purchased booking for 5 nights from 7th June. But no the hotel is insisting its non refundable and I will loose my money if I do not turn up for the booking. This is day light robbery and I would not recommend this chain to any one. I am willing to take a credit if offered for use next year so come on and do the right thing by your customers.

We stayed at this hotel for my 50th birthday and thoroughly enjoyed it. We got an excellent welcome from Daniel on reception and enjoyed speaking to Francois at the bar. Upon entering our room we were greeted with balloons , a cake platter and a card saying happy birthday which was a lovely touch.
The hotel is in a great location and is very tastefully decorated, the entrance going down the steps is lovely.
Breakfast was ample with plenty to chose from and very attentive staff. I would certainly stay here again.

The hotel staff was always so friendly and helpful. The room itself was excellent and my partner and I really enjoyed the coziness of the bed. We were delightfully surprised that the floor in the bathroom was heated! Much to our delight as well, when we reached our room at check in we discovered we had a corner room! Bonus!! The spa in the hotel is a delightful hot bath, with no jacuzzi jets or bubblers. It was just to sit and soak and relax your muscles. The steam room was fantastic as well, as when you turned the steam on, you adjust to the level of steam in the room. Breakfast in the mornings was quite lovely, as it was a continental style with many different choices. Coffee and tea is included and specialty drinks were an inexpensive upcharge. The hotel itself is located right on the main shopping street, as well as a less-than-five minute walk from a handful of nice restaurants and a convenient store. All in all, this hotel was wonderful and we will definitely be coming back!

We stayed here for one night before flying home after our Road Trip in Iceland. We had not chosen this hotel but were directed there after another hotel in the Center Group had overbooked and there was consequently no room left for us in it, even though we had fully paid for that room seven weeks prior to our stay!
This was Friday evening in the city, the hotel has no available parking and consequently we had to park 300 metres away and then haul our luggage to the hotel.
Reception staff were very sympathetic to the inconvenience that had been caused to us and we were provided with free access to the spa, which we did not have the opportunity to use. We were also given a free drink at the hotel bar, which we gratefully accepted.
The hotel is high quality but we would never have freely chosen it for the following reasons:
1) There is no free parking in the area
2) It is very dark inside. We prefer a lighter environment
3) Our room was at the top of the hotel with a steeply sloping ceiling thus limiting
headroom severely
4) It is right in the city centre with its attendant disadvantages.

The room was well fitted out and had a pleasant view towards the Pond. It was, however, very dark.
The central location of the property meant that we were unable to sleep properly as the noise from local clubs, bars, people and traffic was quite intolerable. The only good outcome from this situation was that we were still awake when the 3.30 am alarm went off for our drive to the airport.
Choose this hotel if you don't have a car, enjoy a city centre location on a Friday night and have good ear plugs. Otherwise, stay a little way out of the city and walk in.
