My wife and I visited Reykjavik at the end of our honeymoon, having previously spent 9 days in the US. We stayed at the Kvosin for 3 nights.

What a brilliant hotel and beautiful country!

The hotel is small, but very well maintained. It is located right in the centre of Downtown, next to a small stone building that we later discovered was the parliament! Also a stones throw from restaurants, bars and importantly ‘buds stop #1’ which is where airport transfers and excursions pick up from, so a perfect location.

The reception staff couldn’t have been more friendly and courteous. In particular letting us check in a little early as the Icelandair flights arrive from NY earlier than the check in, and with no sleep we were thankful that they pulled out all the stops to ensure we could check in by 11:00am.

The room itself was big (204) and had a small, but comfortable double, with duvet (rather than sheets). Huge and powerful shower with plenty of shampoo/conditioner and shower gel, plus nice big towels.

Our room had cooking facilities (which we didn’t use) with a breakfast bar and 2 stools. There is a TV which had 20 or so channels (including UK terrestrial) and was clean and tidy.

Breakfast was extra and was very nice.

Having experienced the terrible service in the US (honestly, it was awful…) we thoroughly enjoyed this trip and would without question recommend the Kvosin.

We just checked out of the Kvosin Downtown Hotel and are very pleased with the stay. The location allowed us to walk to numerous restaurants, the tour shuttle pickup spot (Bus stop #1), and most of the key spots within downtown Reykjavik.

Initially, I was alarmed by the lack of storage space to unpack the crazy amount of stuff we had for the entire family. Yeah, I packed too much. But we made it work with the efficient amount of space provided. We had the George room (206) which is a ‘bigger room’ category room. I would have gotten the biggest room category if it were still available. My two very active sons would have been better with it.

Well, all that aside. The housekeeping service did a great job, front desk staff answered all my many questions even prior to the trip. I loved that we could order hot or cold breakfast to go and enjoy in our rooms. The croissants were delicious!

I also loved the convenient of the connected bar/restaurant. My husband and I left the kids for 30 minutes to grab a drink. Perfect way to relax.

Great stay and would highly recommend. I’d stay here again when (not if) we come back to Iceland for summer!

Booked here based on previous reviews and was not disappointed. The hotels location is perfect for getting around Reykjavik, close to many sites, bars and restaurants and easy to access by car from the airport.
Parking right outside can be challenging, but there are many other parking areas close by.
Once inside the hotel lived up to review expectations. Very clean and well appointed throughout. The staff are friendly, helpful, knowledgable and nothing seemed too much trouble. We had what is classed as a basic room with balcony and it was a generous size with everything we needed including a small kitchenette area. So lovely that we ate breakfast there every day bar one. Hotel will provide breakfast if you wish to eat in room but I preferred to take a walk to a lovey bakery Braud & Co and bring back the most amazing pastries. The nespresso machine in the room did the rest!!
Bed was very comfortable, shower lovely to wake you up with either pan head or hand held options and it really could not be faulted. In summer the door directly out onto a verandah would be lovely for having breakfast al fresco.
Now to the icing on the cake. This hotel has a lovely bar attached which had an amazing vibe, great staff and a fantastic selection of beers, wines, spirits and award winning cocktails. If you like IPA the Viking Bondi is one of the best, and don’t go without trying ‘The Father of The Bar’, ‘Harpa’ or My favourite ‘The Little Fly’!
Overall an amazing trip to Iceland was topped off by this fabulous find of a hotel. Well done Kvosin.

Our amazing trip to Iceland was made even more special due to this lovely hotel, very clean and the room had everything we needed for our stay and very good value for money. The staff were very friendly and helpful especially Zuzana who helped us arrange all our trips, nothing was too much trouble. Thank you so much for all your help. They even had complimentary tea, coffee and cakes in the reception and with no hidden charges or city taxes added to the end bill, such a breath of fresh air. Would definitely recommend this hotel 👍

We just wrapped up an 8 day visit. 3 of us shared the ‘biggest’ size category room, which provided for 2 bedrooms each with a double bed, closing with barn style door and great blackout curtains. There was a small ‘livingroom’ with couch and tv, and a larger eating area with the kitchenette. We had a small private balcony out the front of the building and a larger shared deck out the back.
Staff was very friendly and accommodating. We booked a couple tours off the hotel website, which was very convenient and no more expensive than searching and booking indecently. The hotel is conveniently located around the corner from Bus Stop #1 for many tour pickups. The hotel is also close enough to the city center without being right on the main streets that many other reviews for other hotels mention in noisy. Beds were made daily with a complete linen change and more extensive cleaning done every third day, which was completely adequate.
I would completely recommend.

This is such a charming hotel from the outside reminded me Canada.

We had an executive suite which had two separate bedrooms with all that we needed.
This room can be for 6 which i think would be a tight squeeze specially as there was only one en suite shower.

Breakfast was a delight with lovely fruit which i wasn't expecting!

We had booked quite a few day trips and both stops 1 and 3 are both only minutes away.

Staff were so helpful we had an issue with our airport pickup going home and the guy on reception couldn't have been more helpful.

Loved Iceland and this hotel was a great pick highly recommend even if the church bells ring through the night.

Tip when we arrived we got a taxi from the airport to hotel not realising how expensive they were set us back £130 so make use of the airport shuttles.

I found this hotel on Mr & Mrs Smith, and that coupled with all the positive reviews made me really excited about our stay here. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed with our room. We were in one of the "biggest rooms" located on the second floor directly above the bar and front door, so it was very loud already. We could also easily hear sound from the hallway, from the room above, and the street, so it was not a restful stay. There were windows all in the front and back, but the front was located directly on the busy main street and the back on a strange sort of public deck area, so there was little privacy. The worst part though was the bathroom. The room can sleep up to 6, but there was only one very small bathroom, and the shower was actually located in a separate space in the corner of one of the bedroom areas (the one without a door), which was very inconvenient and awkward. We also received a very stingy number of towels and had to go down to request more. Parking was difficult- we were told there was ample parking located directly in front, but all of the spaces were taken, so we had to double park in order to unload and then struggle to find additional parking nearby. The website said breakfast is included but we weren't given any information about that.

The hotel location was good and the bar was nice, but overall it was just not even close to what we were expecting for our stay. It's possible we were just very unlucky with our specific room, but for one of the largest and most expensive rooms provided by the hotel, apart from the apartment suite, to be that much of a letdown is not great.

As many other reviewers have noted, the Kvosin is in an excellent location. We chose one of the larger rooms and were glad to have a sitting area to relax in when we weren't out and about. The bed was very comfortable and the shower was excellent. We liked the outlook on the other historic buildings in the area. However, there were a lot of small maintenance and cleaning issues that came to our attention the longer we were in the place, which contributed to an overall impression of carelessness. Maintenance issues included a bathroom sink that barely drained, a radiator that wouldn't turn off, an open light fixture hole in the ceiling of the bathroom, a broken outlet plate in the bedroom, lots of marks and dents in the walls, some water damage to the trim in the bathroom. Cleaning issues included walls (bathroom and adjacent to the kitchenette), a lot of frost in the freezer, squashed bugs on the interior of one of the blinds. The kitchenette was also missing some basic items (kettle, corkscrew). In addition, it seems that smoking is permitted in the interior courtyard that many of the rooms look out on. Fortunately, this was only an issue once during our stay, but it would have been awful if people had been smoking out there all the time. I did bring these issues to the hotel's attention at their request by email and received no response. For a hotel like this, one would expect to have a carefully cleaned and maintained room at minimum - we wouldn't stay here again and wouldn't recommend it.

The only tiny thing that could have made our room better would be a coat hook by the door - just would’ve been nice to have somewhere to hang out coats not in the bedroom wardrobe thing bht that’s just a small personal preference!
Would absolutely highly recommend

Great hotel with very friendly and helpful staff, rooms were very modern and clean. The kitchen area was so handy to have with young children that wake up super early for breakfast.

The hotel is in a great location, only 2 minute walk to the town centre and right near bus stop 1 for the tours.

Gina and Chantel were extremely welcoming, happy to help with tours and anything else you may need.

Fantastic little relaxed bar downstairs with tea's/coffee's given to any guests staying in the hotel.

Would recommend this hotel to any couples/family's staying in Reykjavik.

We took a car and driver from Keflavik. The hotel sent us the link. Cost was about $175 but worth it after overnight flight. Driver was waiting outside customs and we went right to the car and were at the hotel in about 50 minutes. If you take a bus you have to transfer at least once. Driver will take you right to the door.
