Detailed Reviews
This hotel is quite new in the area, and we were intrigued by the location (right next to the lake). It is indeed a wonderful setting, offering somewhat of a quiet oasis in the midst of the buzzing Reykjavik downtown scene.
We had a beautiful view of the lake on a sizable balcony. As for the room itself, it emanates a modern, clean look (particularly the bathroom), and the finishes of the closet spaces, etc are appealing.
There were some notable problems. The phone didn’t work. The TV didn’t work (both the local TV and Netflix were not functional, though there was some ability to see random ad-sponsored YouTube clips). The AC didn’t work, even through the technologically fancy panel it was on did work for the lights dimming. In the bathroom, the shower resulted in an absurd amount of water spilling over into the bathroom floor, so additional towels were critical to dry up the mess. It was one of those classic Scandinavian designs where form unfortunately took precedence over function.
I’ll acknowledge that the staff was really friendly and helpful. They also had a “refreshments” desk for guests in the lobby (basically offering some water and desserts).

The Reykjavik Saga is wonderfully located. It's in a picturesque part of the city and is within easy walking distance to attractions, restaurants, and shops.
It is worth mentioning that the oldest existing legislature in the world, the Althing, from 930-, was visible from my window.
The hotel itself is beautifully designed; sleek and understated, yet warm and welcoming. It has a very solid feel as the building materials and textiles are obviously of the best quality. It was difficult to leave my bed in the morning it was so comfortable. However, the thought of using either the bathtub or shower was equally appealing- both were perfect, and the design of the area and beautifully tiled walls made me want to linger.
The room itself was spacious with high ceilings and the perfect amount of daylight. The decor was tasteful and restful. There is a lot of unobtrusive storage space, and a coffee maker in a cupboard.
The hotel staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. It was a pleasure to interact with them all.
As the hotel has only been open a short while, the staff considerately emailed me prior to arriving that the dining room is not yet open. And, going above and beyond, supplied a lovely table off the lobby with macarons, chocolates, soda, Prosecco, and exceptionally good coffee.
I hope to go back. The hotel is so lovely it felt like a vacation in itself!

The hotel is very new so everything in good modern working order. We stayed in a standard king room. The room was a good size with wardrobe and safe. There was complimentary bath robes but no slippers. The bathroom had everything you need although body lotion would have been helpful. The layout of our bathroom was a bit odd. All the showers in the rooms are open ie a wet room with no curtain or doors so in our bathroom at times after having a shower the toilet and floor would get wet. The heated towel rail was much welcomed in the Icelandic winter chill. There was a Nespresso machine with coffee & tea and a small fridge. The bed had a mattress tore which I didn’t find too comfortable and made it quite hot when sleeping. The choice of a soft or firm pillow was good. The hotel is conveniently located in the city centre within walking distance of everything. Bus stop 2 was opposite and bus stop 3 100m down the road for airport/excursions pick up & drop off. Breakfast could be improved though. It was all presented well with nice crockery but it was quite basic and not much choice. There was just cheap whole meal/ white bread. There was also no cereals, muesli or granola although they had cold chia porridge which was nice. The fruit selection was good. Only mini sausage, scrambled egg & bacon for hot food choices each morning. Would stay here again for the location and when the spa opens it should be better.

Hotel just opened in July so it’s far from optimum service and that posed challenges all around. Paid for a family room with a 1 king and 1 queen bed and was told at check in I was upgraded to a deluxe suite but it only had a pullout twin and it was super uncomfortable. 1 tv never worked; room phone was not connected to front desk; no cooling system for the room so you had to sleep with sliding doors wide open all night to get air; the restaurant isn’t ready and the front desk is a makeshift table until it’s officially ready. We had to wait almost an hour after check-in time for our room to be ready and overall it just seemed like the staff was aloof and didn’t care about the stay and made you feel like your requests were not taken seriously and didn’t fix anything reported. It’s a shame and it could be a great hotel someday if someone with experience takes over the mgmt. but it’s going to take time and the value just isn’t there. The positives are the location which is super close to the city’s main shopping/dining streets and the design/decor.

We recently stayed at Hotel Reykjavik Saga for 7 nights. Like another reviewer had mentioned, it was difficult to choose a hotel in a place completely unknown to us but I honestly don’t think I could have found a better hotel to stay in.
Location is perfect, there are lots of restaurants close by if you didn’t want to venture too far after a long day out on one of the many day tours. Rainbow street, The Harpa and Hallgrimskirkja are all a reasonably short walk away too. We used Bus stops 1 and 2 for our Tour pick up points which are literally over the road and around the corner from the hotel.
The hotel is beautiful, modern/Nordic design, our room was really beautiful, we loved the ridiculously comfortable bed, the rain shower and the bathroom products smelled gorgeous. The room also had a nespresso machine , great choice of teas and a mini fridge.
All of the hotel staff that we met were so helpful and friendly and are happy to advise and help with any questions you may have.
I can’t recommend this hotel enough, it was absolutely perfect and made my husbands birthday extra special.
We hope to return in the very near future!!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We enjoyed our stay at Hotel Reykjavik Saga.
The location was great (less than 5 minutes walk to the centre of Reykjavik and nearby bus stop 3 (200 meters) and bus stop 1 (400 meters) both stops used by e.g. Reykjavik Excursion, Reykjavik Sightseeing and other companies arranging day tours from Reykjavik. The wellness area was good although small. Basic breakfast was good. More advanced breakfast was an add-on to be paid for, which we did not try.

Perfect location, it’s in the city center and from there you can go to everything by foot. The room was amazing the best beds ever, lots of pillows, the temperature was really comfortable, the shower amazing and really big room. The staff, every one of them, really friendly helpful and amazing. And the restaurant! We ate there twice was really really delicious. The breakfast that was included was enough everything very fresh a little selection of everything, but if you can afford it we recommend to order something from the breakfast menu. You have to pay extra but you have to try it, the portions are really big, I tried the croque madame, the attic char and the eggs and bacon, everything was amazing and worth the price!

This is a great hotel! Don't be afraid of the few photos; it's beautiful. The people are lovely and the breakfast was a really good spread. There are some items that you can purchase off the menu but there are hot breakfast items as well that are included in the breakfast spread (i.e., sausages, bacon, and eggs). The bathroom was big and the floors were heated.
The location is perfect for anyone taking tours as the bus stop is practically right outside the door of the hotel. It's also next to Icelandic Street Food which is a nice place. It's affordable all-you-can-eat soups with an easy atmosphere.
A very nice place to stay!

Wonderful hotel; location couldn’t be better, rooms of a very high standard, hotel amenities (spa, breakfast, etc) all very good.
Beds were comfy, no noise could be heard throughout the hotel so very good sleep quality as well. Couldn’t have asked for anything more from our stay in Reykjavik.

Clean well appointed hotel with excellent staff for our 5 night stay.
We had a problem with our rooms on the first day but the hotel team sorted this to our satisfaction. The hotel is centrally located, minutes from the main street with restaurants, bars, shops etc. The reception team are brilliant, arranging dinners over Christmas and helping us contact and deal with Reykjavik Sightseeing. Some rooms are a little on the small side. Storage within the room for clothes etc is limited as the hotel rooms are stylized as minimalist. E.g. lack of drawers for smalls, no hooks within the bathroom to hangup bathrobes and/or towels. However the shower is just fabulous.
The Sauna and Steam room are working and very pleasant to use with a side quiet/rest room. Breakfast is a little monotonous as the same items are offered each day. It would be good to have some different items and a hot option. The staff do make it clear that hot options are available at extra charge. Overall a very pleasant stay and good value for money. We would return to this hotel.

I found it on their website.

You can also just ask the front desk to have more brought to your room. This is not a budget hotel.
There is also an option to jump on a coach transfer. You can purchase a ticket at the desk in the arrivals hall next to the exit and when we were there this month coaches ran every 15 minutes. The Hotel is right by Bus Stop 3 .
Everything was open when we were there but there will only be a few hours of daylight in December, not that will impact opening times but worth consideration when booking trips.
Enjoy.
Good afternoon. No building in Iceland has air condition as it is not needed, our summers are generally very mild. All rooms are equipped with a thermostat to regulate the temperature but for rapid cooling, we recommend opening the window and closing the door to the bathroom, as the floor there is heated.
Good afternoon. All of our rooms have triple insulated glass and rooms are not affected by street noise. Rooms facing away from the street are available but this is subject to availability.
