Center Hotels Skjaldbreid is often praised for its exceptionally central location, making it a hit with guests keen on exploring the area's attractions on foot. While the hotel's atmosphere can be occasionally disrupted by nearby noise, many visitors commend the clean, albeit small, rooms equipped with handy amenities like kettles and fridges.
The complimentary continental breakfast and the friendly, efficient service contribute to the hotel's value, despite some calls for room updates and better soundproofing. However, the overall consensus is one of satisfaction, particularly with the hotel's cleanliness and the convenience it offers.

Staff very friendly and helpful if needed. Good choice at breakfast of fruit, cereal, breads and cheese/ham. Best facility is that breakfast room is availbale to use all day for yourselves. There is tea/coffee/hot chocolate left out for you and you can use the room for your own food.
Location is fabulous for popping back if you are central to warm up.
As room was on 4th floor, so we did not hear any street noises.
Would definately recommend for city break.

From the time of arrival to the end if our 4 day trip I would definatly recommend this hotel only 3 floors of rooms so no lugging of suitcases up flights of stairs in searing heat (by the way there is a working lift and with it being Iceland not much in the way of heat either!)
Some large steps to get into the foyer of hotel other than that all good.
Not far at all from bus stop 6 colture about a 2 minute walk you'll get to know the bus stops quite quickly when arriving in Reykjavík.
Back to inside....
Reception manned 24/7 always friendly and helpful asked them to call the tour company to arrange pick ups they did without any problem. Speak considerable English so understood our questions etc.
When asking for more coffee sachets and milks never a problem and they delivered them to our room.
Talking about the room we stayed in 304 fantastic size for the 2 of us. Corner room with 3 big windows brilliant views to the main street of shops bars etc ideal location to see all sites, comfortable double bed, small shower but not spending much time in the room we weren't bothered.
We even had a view of the longest hop scotch trail running the length of the main street nice touch Reykjavík!
Quite after about 12am as Reykjavík city it not densely populated and respectful of the time for others sleeping.
Hotel assistants came in every day to hoover carpets, make our beds and refreshed coffee tea sugar etc. Change of sheets every 3 days.
Breakfast was from 7-10am continental which made a lovely change from fry up. Lovely mix of cereals, fresh fruit, porridge, ham, salami and cheese, proper toaster fro the bread not one of those machines that you get third degree burns from or singles your bread halfway round and you can't do anything about it until it flies past you onto the floor (you know the ones I'm talking about).
Orange and apple juice, tea coffee and cold milk containers make your own and with multiple fills without question.
Dining room small in size but perfect for the amount of guests
Very weird experience eating bfast in the dark as sunrise in January is not until 10am that took a little getting used to.
All in all coming from UK can't fault our stay at the hotel highly recommend and thank you to all the staff for making our trip a little less stressful.

Center Hotels Skjaldbreid is right at the centre where you can find any shop you need including a minute away walk to bus stop 6 where all excursions & airport transfers can pick you up or drop you off. It is also about 2 minutes walk to the famous cathedral & the harbour. I'd like to commend their hardworking and professional staff (Ilias, Clara & Karolina) who gave me such an outstanding customer service. They always take their time to assist you and do all the calls for you. They became my family when I visited there and I even communicate with them outside of the hotel like when I get lost or when I need to check on some excursions. Their cleaners are also very trustworthy and their free breakfast was a surprise. The only thing I believe they should improve on is installing some noise proof on each rooms as I do hear the other rooms whenever they close or open their doors or when someone is talking outside which affected my sleep. Apart from that everything was perfect.

My husband and I recently stayed here on a recent trip to Reykjavik. The hotel is centrally located and everything is within close prosimity. We stayed here for 4 nights and each of the staff members we met were lovely. The rooms were quite small but perfect for a couple who spent very few hours in the room. There is a safety deposit box at the reception which is fab. The beds are comfortable, we had a double bed with two single duvets which my husband was thrilled about as I couldn't rob his covers. The room is really warm and has a radiator which is perfect for drying wet clothes. The windows also open if you need a bit of air. The hotel is located on a pedestrianised street but there is ample street parking within walking distance. As we were leaving at 4.30am for the airport they left croissants and juice in reception for us. If you let them know in advance they'll happily arrange this.

The hotel is right in the middle of the street where the shopping stores and restaurants are located, and it was very close to the bus stop number 6, where the minibuses of the tour companies pick and drop their customers.
Since the street in front of the hotel was closed to vehicle traffic, it was quiet and calm.
The hotel is very clean and the staff especially caroline and carla answered all our questions and arranged tours of the places we would visit.
they were very helpful and friendly.
It would be better if there were more different cheese types and olives for breakfast. There was also no ready-made tea, there was boiled water, a tea bag was used for each glass. I didn't write these to say it was bad, I just wrote it to say it would be much nicer if it was.
It's been a great experience for me. If I come to Iceland one more time, I will use the same hotel. thanks everyone.

Clean rooms, friendly and accommodating staff, continental style breakfast well appointed. Breakfast room/sun room stays open all day (chill zone pardon the pun) tea, coffee etc on tap. Surrounded by bars/cafes/restaurants etc (make the most of the happy hours) various bars within 500 yards (runs from 12 pm to 1 am ).. enjoy.

Lovely reception staff for the first few days … rude breakfast staff and misleading information regarding using tea facilities access all day. The staff took hot water urn back In The kitchen when we came locked the door and went away never came back , we felt they did this so they would not have to clear up cups etc they were in there phone the whole time and did not even acknowledge us when we walked in. They need training in hospitality management and customer service .
Location brilliant access to shops and stores .
No hot breakfast or choice for breakfast was cold even scrambled eggs would do. But we enjoyed the trip as there are so many things to see and do. Will defo go again may stay in another hotel this time around.

We stayed for 4 nights in a double and single room
The hotel is situated on a busy street full of bars , restaurants and shops so not the quietist location but ideal as no buses or taxis required.
Rooms are fairly basic, similar to a travel lodge in the uk but very clean and comfortable.
Breakfast was continental style and possibly not to everyone’s taste but we found it ok for us .
All the staff were very friendly and helpful and with excellent English.
A word of caution! The hotel is situated on a pedestrian only street so you won’t will be dropped off outside you will have to walk a little way to the hotel.

Two friends and I (all women of a certain age) looked for a small hotel easily walkable to tour bus stop pick up points. We decided on Skjaldbreid and could not have been happier with our choice.
Bus pick up points 6 and 14 are within minutes of the hotel. The staff was friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet offered fruit, hot and cold cereals, meats and cheese, and wide assortment of breads. We were given "to go" bags for an early morning tour departure. Coffee and tea are available until 8PM.
The rooms are compact and tidy with ample storage for the suitcases and clothing of two who shared a room. We were happy to see a shower in the bath. The beds and comforters are soft and comfy.
Some of the rooms face the street which can be noisy at night. This is not the fault of the hotel and the staff kindly provided ear plugs and eye masks which helped. Consider requesting a room toward the back.
My only suggestion is that the sign on the front of the hotel be larger. We had difficulty finding the hotel when we arrived.
All in all, the 3 members of my group were well satisfied with our stay at Skjalbreid.

The hotel has a perfect location, just in the middle of Reykjavik downtown; cose to alto of good restourants or pubs ( we tried Mama Reykjavik, Icelandic streetfood and Bastard pub and we had pretty good experiences in all the three ones ). The room was tiny but clean and bathroom big enough. The only thing we didn' t apprecciate was breakfast: coffee was pretty light and no good ( strange thing for Iceland) , no yogurt and no warm food, even the eggs were cold and overcooked

Yes, there are kettles and fridges 😊
Halló,
Our guaranteed check-in time is at 14:00, and the check-out time is until 11:00. We do offer early check from 7 am for an extra fee (breakfast included, which is served every day from 7:00 until 10:00). However, this does depend on the availability and the occupancy of the hotel at the time of your arrival, and therefore cannot be guaranteed in advance. The only way to guarantee an early check in is to book the previous night in the same category. If nothing is available when you arrive, we can of course store your luggage and we will try to get a room for you as soon as possible.
Best regards,
Gintare
Hotel manager
As I recall the hotel has the usual info on land trips. Normally pricing is the same whether you book on line or locally unless the excursion is not full and you may be able to negotiate a better deal. The risk is the trip could be sold out. We like the flexibility of driving ourselves vs booking the excursions. You also save some cost but do lose the guide input.
Hi there
Thanks for the question, to be honest we were out and about for the three days spent in Iceland.
Don’t think there was a gym though as it was a small hotel.
Have a look into the Fly Bus which most people use.
