Reviews summary
This summary was created by AI, based on recent reviews.

Hotel Reykjavik Grand is often celebrated for its clean and modern atmosphere, providing guests with a welcoming vibe and comfortable rooms. However, some reviewers warn about the noise levels, which can be disruptive. While the rooms earn praise for their cleanliness, opinions on their size and comfort level are mixed. The hotel's location is noted for its tranquility but critiqued for its distance from downtown attractions.
Cleanliness generally receives high marks, but some guests have pointed out lapses in daily upkeep. The amenities, including the cozy beds and breakfast options, are well-received, though dissatisfaction arises from additional charges for spa access and limited gym offerings. Despite its perceived high costs and the occasional service hiccup, many guests commend the friendly and professional staff.

Detailed Reviews
Hotel is 20 minutes walk from downtown Reykjavík but runs a shuttle service every hour on the hour until 5pm. Breakfasts are first class, bar meals are tasty and Grand Brasserie is good but not great. In common with most of Reykjavík food and drink is pricey (happy hour is from 5 - 7pm when a typical pint of lager reduces from £11 to £6!). We booked our trip via Secret Escapes which included flights, accommodation and excursions so I’m not sure of the room cost which is advertised at £135 - £155 per night for a tower view twin room.

Our group stayed here and I a.m sharing a room with a friend. The room was large enough so we can each open our luggage! Breakfast was Good but it was mostly continental... Eggs croissant, cereals etc. I wish there were Asian choices but none was available. Showers had hot water so defintely Good and room had heaters so it was comfortable inside! A nice experience!

Everything was wonderful except breakfast buffet. We got there at 9:45 am. We had to pay first which turned out to be $56 USD and when we went inside they were starting to clean up and some trays were empty. Food was cold and taste like it was laying there for a while. We only had 15 minutes and they were removing and cleaning up buffet. They should have never accepted our $. Was not worth it!! Very dissatisfied with buffet.

Dear slr525, Thank you for your review. I'm glad that you enjoyed your stay with us overall. Our breakfast buffet is open until 10 am and we do not clean the food before that time. I'm sorry that this was a disappointing experience, we are very proud of our breakfast buffet and we are happy when our guests can enjoy it. You can contact us in order to send us more detailed information about this and we can improve for the future with the way we clean the buffet after it closes. I hope to see you back with us someday! We had a party of seven staying in four rooms at the hotel. Each of our rooms experienced some maintenance issue that took 1-2 days to address: no hot water, no towels, etc. The staff was argumentative about what our reservation included and we had to justify it daily by showing them our evidence. Everything costs a lot more additional money-just to use the hot tub was a fee. The breakfast buffet was wonderful however and we didn't come to Iceland to sit in the room. The location is good for getting out on the road and had underground parking but is NOT within comfortable walking distance to town. You can hear people in the next room easily and the road out front is very noisy as well. There are better options at the same price.

Fabulous hotel. Staff very friendly and welcoming throughout our stay. They are constantly cleaning floors, surfaces, doors and windows. The hotel is extremely clean and covid compliant.
We ordered room service on our first night and it arrived within 15 mins. Breakfast was plentiful, fresh, hot and appetizing. Iam coeliac, the breakfast choices were very limited, cornflakes and bread but no toaster. The staff had placed biscuits, cake and some sort of twisted doughnut. I got so excited and immediately put some on my plate, thankfully I asked a server and she explained they were not gluten free - I would recommend the hotel keeps these foods separate from gluten free items as this has the potential to ruin your holiday completely if mistakenly eaten.
We ate in the bar the other two nights and the food was gorgeous, the bar man was able to suggest gluten free options for me. My husband had burger and chips one night and fish and chips the second. I had the club sandwich and chips both nights and it was so tasty and filling.
There are drinks in the reception area where you can people watch in comfort and pass the afternoon or evening easily. The rooms were very spacious, clean and beautifully decorated with lots of little extras. The bed and bedding were just like sleeping on a cloud, fresh, crisp, clean and snuggly.
We had a 4.30am check out and although my husband had requested a gluten free breakfast for me at reception the previous evening, unfortunately this was not accommodated. There were a small selection of breads, cold meats, cheese and fruit but no staff on hand. This was disappointing because when I arrived at the airport, they also had no gluten free food, so I ended up eating a pack of crisps for breakfast.
The hotel is roughly a 40 minute walk from the town centre but there had been extremely heavy snow so we took a taxi back to the hotel which cost £15stg. Expensive!
Overall, I would recommend this hotel and hope to stay again sometime in the future.

We made our booking for a standard double room through EasyJet Holidays and added to our booking that we were staying for a special occasion (our anniversary). I also emailed ahead of arriving that I wanted a picture of a celebrity me and my boyfriend both like on the bed.
We were honestly stunned when we arrived to our room. We were expecting a double standard room with an atrium view, instead, we had been upgraded to an enormous room on the twelfth floor! The bed was two three quarter beds pushed together each with their own duvet (I could totally starfish and be nowhere near my boyfriend!) and was super comfy. The staff had also honoured my request well and had placed the picture on the bed in pride of place. The room had a sofa and two chairs, and a gorgeous view over Reykjavik! My absolute favourite part of the room was the amazing bath that had bubbles and jets, no need to go and check out the hot tub!!
The lovely hotel staff left us a cute note to congratulate us on our anniversary and a delicious bar of chocolate as well; we enjoyed it so much we bought another bar in duty-free on the way back!
In terms of location, the hotel wasn't really very central at all, about a half an hour walk from downtown Reykjavik but there was a free shuttle bus once an hour downtown and our location usually meant we were first for pick up on the various tours we went on. There's also a Netto about a 5-minute walk around the corner where we went to get essentials while we were there. The hotel restaurant did look quite steep in price, even for Reykjavik, but the bar was nice and reasonably priced. The atrium and reception area of the hotel was gorgeous as well.
All in all, our hotel experience on our trip was the cherry on top of the cake for us, so unexpectedly nice that our room was upgraded and the staff were so lovely! Wouldn't consider staying anywhere else if we return to Reykjavik :)

This is not the cheapest place in city. We will get that out of the way. My first stay here was 5 weeks from early Dec to Jan. I was in a room that had an exception view. High in the tower facing the northeast. The room was spacious and clean. The internet was very strong by hotel standards, easy to access, and free. There are no internet speed/tier up charges as well. As an engineer/business owner in the tech space this is something I need and always check when in a hotel. I was consistently between 30-50 Mbps and reasonable latencies back to North American servers for various services such as Zoom for example. This is important as I was doing many video calls for work the month I was there. The location is great as there is a public pool nearby, it’s not quite downtown so a bit quieter, and a Bonus (cheap grocer) isn’t far away either. The food at the property is varied enough for days you don’t want to leave the hotel. In off season the per night price for this hotel is exceptional. I recently was back in late June for a week and the prices we’re near a point where longer stays may want to consider more inexpensive options however. As someone who comes to the country a few times a year this will continue to be my choice. One thing to add is that laundry services are quite expensive here. I ended up using a service in city that does pickup instead.

Seemed all the big tour groups use this hotel. We saw signs for Trafalgar, Lindblad, Celebrity, Tauk....The lobby and breakfast buffet were crowded at times. We were comfortable because we know all the tourists were vaccinated.
The bed was comfortable. The room was quiet, and clean. The room picture featured is misleading. We were in a superior room and didn't get a king as pictured. We couldn't find a temperature control in the room and when the temperature outside got into the 70's the room felt warm. The room amenities included robe, slippers, moisturizer, shampoo/conditioner (unbranded), liquid soap, tea and coffee. There was no bar soap. While the bathroom is large, the shower area felt cramped. The blackout curtains don't fully cover the windows. If you need a dark room, bring eye shades.
Breakfast is strictly a buffet. It didn't appear to change from day to day, but had a lot of variety. The fruit was fresh. Sometimes the eggs were cold. It had the hot and cold offerings you'd expect at a better hotel, plus cod liver oil! The lobby bar has a happy hour. The lunch here was outstanding. We ordered the fish & chips and a cauliflower dish that were both great.
The only newspaper provided was near check-in in Icelandic.
Hand sanitizer was widely available.
The hotel offers free shuttles to town that are actually individual taxis from 9-5. The walk into town is about 20 minutes on a paved path along the bay.
At the beginning of our stay there was no mask wearing; but with cases increasing, by the end of our stay, everyone was asked to wear a mask and even gloves while at the breakfast buffet!

Dear surrealus, Thank you for this expanded review! We are happy that you enjoyed your stay with us in general. I hope you tried the cod liver oil shot? We do indeed have some groups staying with us. With so many hotels still being closed due to being unable to find staff we are accepting more groups than usually. In our rooms the best way to control the temperature is to either use window or radiator that is under the window. All our rooms are heated by geothermal water and it is important to make sure that those radiators are turned off if the temperature is too high. We indeed had some laws in Iceland being revised and some mask requirements are in force currently. Best regards, Bartek Zabel FDM

We stayed at this upscale hotel with a tour group. Overall, we were very pleased with the facilities, service and the room. The buffet breakfast was also excellent. A few tips for visitors: this hotel is not in the best location for pedestrian access to sightseeing and restaurants in Reykjavik. There is a once-per-hour shuttle service during daytime from hotel to downtown (but not return or in evening). There are few restaurants close to this hotel, but we were very pleased with Potterinn og Panann which was about 10 minutes away on foot. The botanical gardens and a Netto grocery store are also very close by. Regarding the rooms, there is one small window that can be opened for ventilation if needed; however, the rooms facing the main four-lane road have a lot of traffic and we found the noise level to be bothersome with that window open. In the lobby, there are some prepackaged sandwiches and snacks for purchase, which we found handy when the need arose. Other than location, this was an ideal choice to stay.

Hello, Thank you for your review :) I'm happy that you enjoyed your stay with us! We are indeed located around 1,5km from the beginning of the city centre area and we are slowly waiting for the city to expand so we will be a downtown hotel in a few years. Other than that you are right about having all you need in the area - swimming pool, botanica garden, a grocery store and a few nice restaurants :) I hope to see you back with us someday!

The Grand Hotel was by far the best hotel that we stayed in on our tour of Iceland. It's very modern, the room was spacious and the beds were comfortable. There was a good breakfast buffet, and we had one dinner in the hotel which was really good. The staff at the front desk were friendly and helpful. There is a snackbar in the lobby selling sandwiches, other snacks and coffee.
A negative about the rooms is that there is only one tiny window with no air-conditioning, and, if the sun is shining, the room becomes unbearably hot. On our last morning we sat in the lobby for 90 minutes before leaving for the airport as it was about 28C in the room despite being 14C outside.
The location is not that convenient as it's a 35/40 minute walk to anywhere of interest to tourists. The shuttle service is a nice idea but it's not at all reliable. You need to book an hour in advance to leave on the hour, and you get picked up by a local taxi company. We used it 3 times and the taxi arrived between 25 and 35 minutes late. You are better off downloading the app for the buses as there are stops not far from the hotel.

Hello!
The construction in front of the hotel is finished in most parts, now we are working on making it more green with planting trees and plants that will enjoy Icelandic climate.
Hi!
We do have baby cribs and high chairs, always good to request having it ready in your room prior to the arrival.
Suggest you pre book a cab transfer
