Hotel Holt, often celebrated for its exceptional service and welcoming staff, is a haven for travelers seeking a cozy and artistic ambiance. While the art collections and jazz-infused atmosphere garner high marks, a few guests find the charm slightly dimmed by dated elements.
The rooms, praised for their cleanliness and comfort, come equipped with conveniences like kettles and fridges, though their size and occasional noise are noted by some. While opinions on value vary, with discrepancies in cost and amenities, the hotel's prime location near city attractions is widely appreciated.

Detailed Reviews
Four of us stayed four nights at this great hotel. The hotel is situated in a quiet neighbourhood but close to the centre of town. Hallgrimskirkja is a 10 minute walk at the most, with the majority of bars, restaurants and attractions 5-15 minutes away. All of the hotel staff were very friendly and engaging. There is an interesting art Icelandic collection distributed throughout which adds colour. The bar and lounges are comfortable, offering a happy hour which is always a bonus in Iceland! The breakfast was super with hot and cold options including meats, cheese, breads, fruit, cereals, etc. The bedroom and bathroom had everything we needed; USB charging sockets, hair dryer, TV, lovely toiletries.
Overall a really lovely place to stay, wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it.

Hotel Holt is situated on a quiet residential streetbut just 5 mins walk to central Reykjavik. It is a fairly small hotel (43 rooms) and is the better for that.
It was booked as part of a package with British Airways and we stayed for seven days.
Breakfast was included as part of the package. The dining room was roomy and comfortable and there was plenty of choice, including cooked items, cereals, and Continental breakfast items. It was great to have breakfast included as eating out can be very expensive in Iceland.
Hotel Holt does look a little old fashioned, it certainly is not based on Scandi minimalism, but it is very comfortable and has a lovely atmosphere.
The staff without exception were very helpful and friendly and eager to please.
Our room was a little on the small side and we could have used a bit more storage, however this was a minor detail and in no way detracted from our holiday.
The family owners are art collectors and their Icelandic art and sculpture is in every room and it definitely enhanced our stay.
Hotel Holt is highly recommended by us.
We loved our first stay in Iceland and would like to return and Hotel Holt would definitely be our preferred hotel.

I enjoyed an easy stay. The hotel’s Icelandic art collection is very good and a unique feature.
Decor is classic in style which fits the slightly ‘old world’ feel nicely. I liked the fact it feels like a ‘grown up’ property.
My room had USB charging, free fast wifi, TV, seating, tea/coffee, fridge, plus lots of hanging and draw space. The bathroom is not modern, but offered a vanity kit and good quality shampoo, body wash and conditioner. Fixtures and fittings were in broadly good condition although slightly aging.
I had a room on the top floor. This afforded an outside terrace with 180 degree views across Reykjavik’s rooftops with dramatic mountain views across the harbour.
The BSI (main coach station from the airport) is within walking distance for those with a backpack. There is also a small free carpark, which I believe is unique for a downtown hotel. Reykjavik’s main downtown tourist streets are less than five minutes walk away.
The only negative is that I could hear my neighbours one night, who were not being excessively loud. However I still slept well as the bed was comfortable.
I would recommend to family and friends.

I actually stayed here twice in July—one night prior to a multi day tour of Iceland and then one night afterward.
The hotel is on a quiet street just a few blocks from the main shopping and dining section of Reykjavik and only about a ten minute walk from the BSI bus terminal, making it a very convenient location for those who don’t have a car.
The hotel doesn’t look like much from the outside but the lobby has an attractive, inviting sitting area, and the art collection scattered throughout the property is a nice touch.
The check in experience was quite pleasant. I found the front desk staff to be exceptionally courteous and helpful. Breakfast costs a little extra, but it is worth it with a good assortment of breads, pastries, cereals, eggs, and bacon or sausage.
The room itself was unremarkable. I stayed in a single room, which was basically a glorified cracker box, though this is not unusual for single rooms in Europe. Still, everything was clean and functional, the single bed was comfortable enough, and the shower had good water pressure. Certainly adequate for a short stay.
Overall, I liked this place and would stay here again. Hotel Holt is relatively inexpensive by Reykjavik standards and offers decent value for what you pay. You may want to opt for a larger room, though:).

A friend soon traveling to Iceland asked me where I stayed on my business trips to Iceland and I was very happy to recommend the Hotel Holt. Everything about the hotel is excellent and it is close enough to central Reykjavik for a nice walk if one chooses. Most memorable for me at Hotel Holt was the guest room shower/bath. A 3rd knob provided mineral water. I think I enjoyed 5 showers during my weekend stay to totally soak up the mineral water experience. I will invite the hotel to comment more on the availability of this special mineral water feature. I’m a world traveler and have never seen it before in a hotel guest room.

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Hotel Holt for 9 days during out trip to Iceland in December. This was our second time in Iceland, but our first time staying in the city in a hotel. Let me start off by saying that this was by far an amazing find! It’s a quick 5-minute walk to the main streets that are filled with shops and restaurants. It also had two parking lots which came in handy since we had a rental car with us. There was always parking for us. At first, I was a little turned off by the outside of the hotel, it looked old, but soon realized that most of the building in Iceland look a lot like that. I also learned that this hotel has the largest privately owned art collection in all of Iceland. There is art EVERYWHERE! The whole hotel gave off a cozy, elegant, vintage, 50’s feel. It was decorated with books, artwork, dark leather couches.
We flew into Iceland at 6am and check in wasn’t until 3pm, however, when we got to the hotel, we originally wanted to just drop our bags off to be locked up and come back, but the gentlemen at the front desk allowed us to check in early without any additional charges and we were very grateful for this. It allowed us to take a nap and freshen up before Christmas Eve dinner.
Once in the room, I immediately notice how clean the room was. The bathroom was spotless. What I loved about the bathroom was that they had full size shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel to use during your stay instead of the tiny bottles. Super eco-friendly, but also helpful if you forget to pack something. The rest of the room as spacious, the bed was very comfy with two separate duvets and plenty of pillows (the boyfriend was happy for these since I’m a blanket hog!). we had a beautiful view of the church which was nice to wake up to every day.
All of those working at the hotel were unbelievably kind and helpful when it came to asking for local tips on where to go, what to do, and where to eat. They also updated us on the Covid changes that were happening in the country to ensure we were safe. Housekeeping staff were very friendly and worked hard to keep the hotel clean during this pandemic. Overall, my stay at the Holt was out of this world. I 1000% recommend this hotel for your stay in Iceland!

Would recommend this hotel for its location, staff, great shower and comfortable beds. About a 5-10 minute walk to everything. Restaurants and city centre are very close. Great restaurant just around the corner (3 Frakkar). BSI bus terminal, bus stop 8 or bus stop 3 for all excursions are an 8 minute walk (they do not come to the hotel, despite what they tour operators say).
Reception is great. Very friendly people. Extremely helpful. Tried to help us with our Northern Lights sightings. Place is quite dated but then that's part of the charm. Lots of wood panelling and the art is great.
Breakfast was excellent. We always managed to find somewhere to sit but some people didn't. Excellent selection of food. Some kids managed to set fire to the toaster so the fire alarm went off at 7:30am one day which was not great. The cleaners and restaurant staff just carried on as if nothing was happening whilst people headed outside in coats to stand in the freezing cold. Comms could have been better here.
Rooms are nice although somewhat dated. There's a strange "bathroom" in the bedroom with just a bath in it which seems a little odd. If the bathroom (with the toilet, sink and shower in it) was slightly bigger, the layout would be much better. The shower had fantastic pressure.
The rooms are not particularly well insulated. I was awoken by people clearing snow off a truck outside the hotel at 6am. Cars were very audible. And other hotel guests that woke up early were clearly heard (toilets flushing, people walking around, doors closing, etc).
I requested a room on a higher floor and also an airport transfer when booking but neither happened. Taxi is £100 from the airport.
Overall a great hotel.

This hotel is full of old style polished wood and big comfy chairs in the lobby. Our suite was roomy and beautiful. King bed! The breakfast was continental style with very fresh breads, meats and fruit.
Its location was just a few blocks from the center of town, so quiet but very convenient. The staff was excellent, offering suggestions on where to go and what to see.
I would stay there again!

Charming hotel with fantastic service and great location. The concierge was so attentive and they respond to email inquiries super fast. We highly recommend adding their buffet breakfast as it is superb and good value for money especially in Iceland where food can be expensive. The breakfast selection was an awesome mix of hot food, pastries, fruits. The hotel is super near rainbow road so lots of selection of great restaurants and stores. It is also near convenience stores/mini grocery. Room is super cozy. However if you are a light sleeper make sure you request a room not near the street.

We really enjoyed the location of this hotel. It was just a few blocks from the center of town and the neighborhood was quiet and cute. We loved the morning breakfast and it was a real benefit to include that as part of our hotel package. Also, there is a free parking lot attached to the hotel which was great to keep our care safe and without spending extra money.
To me, the downside of the hotel was the lack of blackout curtains. We arrived in the summer when there is literally light 24 hours a day and were disappointed to find that the curtains were no different than any other hotel room. Because we were in a neighborhood, I was able to see what neighbors' windows looked like, and all of them had blackout curtains. I had researched how Icelanders sleep in the summer and all the articles mentioned opaque blinds or black out curtains and so it was disappointing not to have that, especially when tourists are coming from all over who are not used to this issue. This disrupted our sleep for most of the trip despite trying different things such as eye masks. Also the quality of the bedding was not great and the pillows were cheap and super soft which made it also challenging to sleep.
In addition, I found the cleanliness of the room to be generally good but not comprehensive. The bathroom and bedroom were well cleaned but out room had a sitting area with a sleepaway couch. The cough was dirty with stains and had clearly not been cleaned. Also, the bed and couch system was broken so the entire couch was in this weird position where if you leaned up against the back of the couch, you could hurt your back due to a lack of support.
The staff was very friendly and kind.
