Detailed Reviews
We spent a week at Eric the Red Guesthouse. The staff was so warm and welcoming, we couldn't have been more pleased. Our room was warm and comfortable, and they checked with us regularly on the need for clean towels or garbage removal. Although the entire staff was great, we saw Marek most often, and were especially grateful to him for his help.

This guesthouse is in a very convenient location, right next to the church and only a short walk from the main shopping/dining area. The room was ok - plenty of room and quiet enough with a fridge in the room. Host was very welcoming, and although we didn’t use the kitchen it was available for us if we needed to. No on-site parking but there are free options nearby so likely not a huge issue.

This guest house was a wonderful place. We spent 2 nights. The location is excellent, walking distance to downtown and many different attractions. It’s an older house with much artwork. The bathroom needs some TLC, but everything worked. The room was spacious. Breakfast is just cereal, toast and coffee, but you have access to a full kitchen. They did not offer any bar soap or a wash cloth. You are asked to take your shoes off once you enter the house, but they did have some house shoes that you could use.

I really liked staying in this B&B. I had a private room with a private bathroom. Everything was clean and I liked mostly the chance to stay in a private room but having access to common places like the kitchen where I could meet new people and chat with them. I also had free access to coffee, milk cereals in the morning even if the breakfast was not included. The guy from Serbia in the reception is also very kind.

This is a nice little guesthouse right in the heart of town. You honestly can’t beat the price or the location as it’s very near everything you want to walk to, including excellent restaurants. We also loved visiting the sculpture museum nearby. The guys that manage this place are very friendly and leant us some electronic adapters for our stay which we really appreciated. We had two rooms and they were clean and comfortable. The breakfast is pretty basic but appreciated. The only downside is that the water smells like sulfur but I suspect that a lot of homes have this issue in Iceland. We stayed for a few days in a luxury hotel that didn’t have this issue but we also paid a lot more and it wasn’t as close.

We have just spent three nights in the garden cottage at Eric the Red Guesthouse. The room was so warm and cosy and clean, with everything you could possibly need. We warmed our clothes up on the underfloor heating before going out in the snow! The breakfasts were lovely, especially the home made bread, and I have discovered a love of pickled herring. The guesthouse is perfectly placed to explore Reykjavik and a short walk to the bus station. We would definitely recommend it to anyone. And it was a pleasure to meet Raggí!

the place itself is fine, clean etc. the real selling points are the convenient location - extremely close to Hallgrimska and easy to get to from the freeway. the two hosts were super friendly and even went food shopping to have items to share with the guests. I didn't want to take advantage of that so only used a few of their things but they seemed genuinely giving and kind. the price was good too, especially considering the amazing location.

It is 1.40am in the morning, I have to get up in four hours, and I can't sleep as people have decided for some reason to take very long showers after midnight and I can hear everything... It's not only very thin walls but I think this room must be near piping or the boiler as it feels like the person is literally taking the shower right next to my bed. And I am not someone who generally is particularly noise sensitive.
I am staying in a room in the basement which on first sight was fine: it's basic but has everything you need: clean, good wifi and the location is great. I thought this was a great bargain for Reykjavik. Potentially it is with the rooms upstairs. But if you do stay here, avoid the basement as your sleep will depend completely on your neighbours...

Easy checkin, great atmosphere and cosy rooms, communal areas with personal touch, location is very central - close to main shopping street, restaurants and bars, 8 min to bus station that takes you to Airport. Clean, great interior and friendly hosts. Highly recommend!!!

The guest house had a hostel feel to it. I loved that it had a shared self catering kitchen so I didn’t need to spend lots of money eating out.
Cereal and milk was provided by the owner, and there was plenty of fridge and freezer space for guest’s own food. The kitchen is ell equipped but lacks a vegetable peeler, a straining spoon, a spatula and a masher. All things I use almost daily. So I had to improvise a bit! The dining room has an enormous table so we could eat with other family members whilst there.
The guesthouse was warm, in fact too warm. In the rooms we used we had to turn off the radiator. We stayed in 2 different rooms during our stay as we had to extend, and the owner made sure we had a private shower room and toilet both times (not all the rooms do)
The reason a star was lost was because none of the rooms seem to have any storage space at all. No cupboard, or drawers, and annoyingly, no shelf in the shower room.
Also, had our son not already been there when we arrived I’d never have found it. There is no indication on the outside of the building that it is even a guesthouse, and nothing to indicate its name.

Room Tip: The sulphur smell of the hot water is natural for Iceland, not a drainage problem! Take your own...

Not sure but the owner is a tour guide herself and has lots of contacts and knowledge.

Haywards Heath, United Kingdom148 contributions36 helpful votesDo the apartments have safes?
There were no safes but the rooms do lock and you must have a key to enter the building.
Our room had a private bathroom with no windows- when we were upgraded to the holiday apartment it was the same. Great place to stay. 😃
