Stayed here with friends on a sightseeing and activity trip.
The hotel was in a great location in the City, adjacent to the national theatre and a 5 or 10 min walk to the main streets, where many pubs, restaurants and shops are located. There is an E-scooter location nearby, which we used alot. For a small fee on an app, you can pick up any E-scooter around the City, and use the many cycle lanes to get around. A great way to see the capital.
The rooms are relatively small, but comfortable and have all amenities needed, including tea and coffee. We didnt spend much time in the rooms, other than sleeping. Only gripe was the rooms were a bit warm, but I like a cold sleep.
The breakfast room and bar is located on the top floor of the hotel, with stunning views across the bay and great for dark night sky watching. The breakfast selection is well varied to suit all tastes, with cereals, english breakfast, meats and pastries on offer, along with various juices.
In terms of trips, I highly recommend the Sky Lagoon thermal baths. We did the Blue Lagoon and The Sky Lagoon, with the latter being a surreal experience. It is located in the bay, boasting swim up bar, infinity pool, sauna, spa rituals and more.. A must do!
We did the Golden Circle tour, taking many of the waterfalls, fischers, and Geyser's, with a great tour guide who explained some of the history of the areas and local folklore and traditions.
We did a snowmobile tour over the Glacier, which was a special experience. All the clothing and safety wear was provided, so no worries in terms of bringing any specialist gear.
The "Flyover over" Iceland experience down near the dock was good. Bit of a trek to what looks like an industrial estate, but plenty of food and drink outlets on the route. Again, we used the E-scooters to get there, which was a life saver on the knees.
Finally, the "Aurora Basecamp" experience was phenomenal. Just outside the City there is a purpose built set of Geo-domes. Within, you will find hot chocolate, a large screen tv, a log fire and tables/benches. On arrival, the team offer great presentation of how the Aurora works, with various contraptions that replicate the Aurora and gives a great understanding of the spectacle.
Once the pleasentries are over, you can go outside and sit around the fire pits awaiting the Aurora to put on a show. We were lucky enough to see a fantastic show put on, mesmerised by the skyline. The team at Aurora basecamp are only to happy to assist with photography settings and are very experienced in taking nightscape photos.
Tip: Take food and drink in your backpack, as you can easily get lost with time watching and waiting for the Aurora, which a little beverage and some hotdogs in a tin on the fire can help with.
Tip: Stop at duty free on your exit from the airport, as you will find food and drink A LOT cheaper here than anywhere else in the City.
