"Is there a good hotel in urdaneta?" This is the question asked by my officemates. Apparently I found a good one, thru tripadvisor. I stayed overnight only, and I noticed that others who stayed are like me, in-town for business.

The rooms are small for the single occupancy but good enough for an overnight stay. Location is quiet and I had a good early morning run. I also saw that they have a small pool.

The main attraction is most likely their bar. I ate my dinner there and the food was ok. There was free breakfast that was ok too. The shower in the room didnt function so well so the water went in different directions.

They accept credit cards too. The staff manning the front desk are attentive and helpful. This will be my hotel when i am back in the area.

We found another nice little hotel in Urdaneta, just off the main road north thru Luzon. Marks Hotel.

It's a charming large Philippines family house converted into an hotel, with an added two story extension of new rooms.

We took a superior room in the main building plus two adjoining family rooms in the extension for the adult children. All rooms were very good. Clean , especially the superior room - see photographs. The plumbing taps could do with a little cleaning up though!

Our reception on arrival was good - see photographs. Our room (No1) was on a corner of the first floor and the room had been pre-air conditioned prior to our arrival. Nice touch.

The room had a working minibar fridge with soft drinks and storage space and free internet connection - all good, but the internet had a habit of dropping signal. There was no mini safe and no formal laundry service although we were told that "the maid will wash and iron on request"- she did my shirt for which I thank her.

Dinner in the restaurant was acceptable - see photographs. No wine was available so bring your own if you want, at a corkage of P350 per bottle. Service was fine but I think the chef suffered somewhat from dealing with a large a la carte menu on his own. Dishes were delivered to the table slowly, one at a time. There is also a shortage of desserts, again not uncommon in the Philippines where desserts are not popular.

Breakfast was served alfresco and was to cooked to order while checking in. As usual in the Philippines, some items were rather cold (the bacon, the tea to name but two) rather than warm but regardless , breakfast was fine.

The problems were

If you are an older patron, the music and external noise can lead to sleep deprivation, especially in Superior Room No1. Unfortunately there was no sound insulation on the windows and the outside noise from the terrace restaurant below and general chatter continued to 12-30am!

Second - mosquitos - the hotel is in a humid area with heavy vegetation and that leads to a lot of mosquitos. Our room was fine and insect free but the hotel generally was quite badly infected. There was not a lot they could do about that though so just make sure you take skin precautions if you are susceptible to mossy bites.

Lastly, the pool area is popular at night. It's not the world's cleanest looking pool but it's still popular and noisy in the evening and most rooms overlook the pool area. Be aware of this.

All together it was a good stay- if you are heading north thru Luzon, it's a pretty good place to overnight.
