Grand Hôtel has garnered acclaim for its exceptional service, with staff members who are lauded for their professionalism and attentiveness. The hotel's atmosphere exudes grandeur, combining traditional elegance with modern comfort, and the prime location offers easy access to Stockholm's attractions.
Guests enjoy spacious rooms with luxurious details and commend the hotel's cleanliness. While the amenities, including a spa and fine dining, enhance the experience, some visitors mention that the value may not justify the cost, citing pricey extras and occasional room issues.

Detailed Reviews
Hotel's Favorite
Every year, our family eagerly anticipates our return to the Grand Hôtel Stockholm. Beyond its picturesque waterfront location, offering unparalleled views of the Royal Palace and Gamla Stan, it's the ethos of hospitality and attention to detail that calls us back.
Ylva and Stina, and Bryan (front desk) remember the little details, making each of our stays feel personal and special. The Concierge team have become familiar faces- Martin continues to be the epitome of attentive service, always greeting us by name and helping secure dinner reservations in town. A nod also to Hugo, who, in his previous role with Concierge, set a high standard of service that is still palpable today. Incidentally, his growth within the Grand Hotel team speaks volumes about Grand Hotel’s dedication to nurturing talent from within and ensuring continuity in their guest relations.
On the food front (important for our family of foodies), the hotel’s offerings remain a highlight. From the iconic Swedish dishes at Veranda to the culinary marvels of Mathias Dahlgren’s award-winning restaurants, we are repeatedly treated and inspired. Pre-dinner cocktails at the Cadier Bar have become a cherished ritual, with whimsical, expertly crafted cocktails and a view to match. And it isn't merely about the food or the drink; it's the experience, the setting, the staff that transforms drinks or dining into an experience. Speaking of, the Grand Hôtel isn’t just a place to rest but an experience unto itself. The Nordic Spa’s indoor heated pool and saunas are not to be missed.
But here’s the crux of our loyalty: the Grand Hôtel Stockholm doesn't just offer a luxurious stay; it curates an experience. An experience where history meets hospitality, where every staff member goes a step beyond, and where -- for our family — each visit feels like a homecoming. To all those considering a stay, let this be your assurance: at the Grand Hôtel Stockholm, expect to feel welcomed, and to depart with the yearning to return. In this vein, we eagerly await our own December reunion…

From the moment I walked into the Grand, I was sure I would have a great time here and I certainly did and I already miss it. Very friendly staff at reception when checking in, got a quiet comfortable room at the end of the corridor as I requested and it was ready when I arrived which was a couple of hours earlier than usual check-in time. I was exhausted from a very early flight from Heathrow, so this was a relief. I used the pool, steam room and sauna right away, which was amazing as saunas and steam rooms in most UK spas aren't even re-open yet. Pure bliss in the spa, was clean, very well maintained and so relaxing, gym very good too. It was less busy in the morning. The hotel is within easy walking distance to the main city centre shopping areas and Old Town, lovely views over the river, I made the most of the warm sunny weather on one of the days I was there as it was rather wet when I arrived and rained the day I left. The covid19 restrictions are a lot more relaxed in Sweden and it's easy to see how well everybody has been coping with it. There is a lot more freedom here, it was so nice to see people walking around without face masks on, hotel staff serving with smiles on their faces and being able to sit at a bar with no 10pm curfew was so good! The hotel is old style classic luxury, I had a beautiful sparkling chandelier above my bed. Housekeeping staff deserve medals in these circumstances, they were brilliant here, turn down service offered and extra toiletries and coffee given when asked and the room were super clean when I arrived. Dental care kits, shaving kits, combs and sewing kits are provided in the room free of extra charge and hair conditioner supplied as well as shampoo. Food and drinks are pricey, but still less expensive than in any hotel of this same five star standard in London which are all twice the price, I think it's very good value here for a luxury hotel in a capital city in Europe. I couldn't possibly stay anywhere else other than here for my next stay in Stockholm.

20 years ago I stayed here in the middle of a heat wave and was frying in my room. Now the hotel is air conditioned and it was freezing in our room if we wanted it that way!
This is a grand hotel in many ways, one that is the pride of the country. There are some beautiful public rooms and you should see the ballroom and their hall of mirrors. Arriving from the Arlanda airport Express, just take a taxi for $15 to reach the hotel and don't try the metro because the transfer at the central station is a real hassle and if you come out at the wrong end of this station you will walk 1/3 of a mile to the hotel.
We had a beautiful 2 bedroom suite with balcony (river view suite plus deluxe room) that was adorned with flowers, from which we took lots of family photos. They also decorated our living room with lots of flowers. The bathroom was huge and the bathtub easily fit a 5 1/2 foot tall person. There were plenty of closets. The buffet at the hotel is very good, and the kids got an excellent pasta gnocche instead from the a la carte menu. Dinner at the Matbaren bistro in the hotel was also very interesting and rather good. We enjoyed the various fresh juices and berries on the buffets here which were farm fresh. Best showers here are in the spa; it's a very luxurious spa for a city hotel and I enjoyed the heated wading pool which I somehow managed to swim laps in. The well-appointed gym can be crowded at times but generally was OK. There is a yoga room for stretching in case the gym is crowded. Smoothie bar at the gym is good. Book massages one week out to avoid disappointment. I managed to get one on cancellation. Helen does a great relaxation massage; take the 75 minute version. English newspapers are available in the lobby.
Two annoyances: You need to take an elevator to the spa level; I'd rather take the stairs to avoid waiting for the elevator. Also, in our suite in the entry foyer the lights come on via motion sensor and there does not appear to be a switch to turn them off. There should be.
Uber works well in the city and will save you 50% off the price of taxis when you go to points beyond the hotel. But at least taxis are always on line in front of the hotel making them hard to pass up. Concierge staff was friendly and helped quite a bit pre-arrival as well as arranging a last minute city tour with a top guide when our ToursbyLocals guide cancelled on us.
Anyway, I'm sure this is still the top hotel in town. The location is fantastic; it's a 5 minute walk to NK Department store and you are within 10 minutes taxi ride to the central station. The waterfront views are lovely and the hotel feels very grand when you are inside.

There are not enough words in the English dictionary to describe how spectacular the Grand Hotel is. If you need a place in Stockholm to get away from busy city life, the Grand Hotel is the place. The rooms are beautifully decorated, spacious and have super comfortable beds so one is refreshed after a good night sleep. But more importantly, one is mentally refreshed knowing that every little detail has been taken care of by the meticulous staff.
The staff is truly outstanding – Francisco is so welcoming at the front to the efficient front desk to the hotel housekeeping servicing the room. Rather than outsourcing the cleaning to an outside firm which I believe other Stockholm hotels do, I believe the Grand has its own in-house cleaning staff. The difference is night and day. I work in the hotel room during the time rooms are normally serviced. At other Stockholm hotels, I sometimes miss the opportunity to have my room serviced because the cleaning company has left for the day. At the Grand, I do not have to worry about being out of my room at a certain time in order to have my room serviced. Not having to remember little details like this every day is priceless.
Attention to detail by everyone at the Grand is consistent. I have seen some guests be rude over very little things – maybe they had a bad day. So it was amazing to see how professional the staff is despite having been subject to rude treatment. I know I would have not been able to be so gracious as they have been.
The hotel is stately, historic and yet state of the art at the same time with Smart TVs that stream in the rooms. Internet is very fast and is never down. The rooms have plenty of charging outlets which is unusual for a historical building. The hotel has thought of everything for the working traveler – rooms are equipped with electric converters and the business center is beautiful. It is very convenient to have access to a business center with printers, computers and a place to work, all in a beautifully decorated room complete with comfy sofas and chairs. It seems like many hotels in Stockholm have done away with business centers within the hotel and so I really appreciated this extra amenity.
The Nordic Spa is unlike anything I have ever seen. It is as if one is swimming in a cave with lighted torches giving just the right amount of light to make one feel transported to another world. The saunas and all of the water amenities are so relaxing and refreshing. Around 6 or 7 years ago, I remember the Grand used to allow children swimming access during a specific times. I hope that in the future, the hotel might consider reinstating these specific hours as currently, no children are allowed inside the spa.
The Grand Hotel is one of the most beautiful hotels in Stockholm. Somehow, it manages to preserve its distinguished history yet at the same time, it is able to provide the modern amenities that a working traveler needs.

I had an enjoyable experience with Grand Hotel and exceptionally delighted by the staff. The Concierge department assisted me in surprising my girlfriend for my proposal. I will like to mention Dennise as he was very helpful and accommodated me as much as I have asked. The service provided was phenomenal as the hotel desk provided me with an alternative room when we found out that there was a problem with the bathtub. Also, the restaurant manager from the Veranda did us a favour by swapping our buffet to the 3-course dinner when we found out that it wasn't to our liking. Overall, it was a once a lifetime experience with Grand Hotel and I will definitely be back for our honeymoon.

We checked into the Grand Hotel Spa in the middle of a 12 hour layover (caused by a delay by Norweigan Air). We enjoyed the facilities very much. It is a luxurious, peaceful experience, champagne and all. We got massages and were impressed by the skill of the masseurs and the ambiance of the treatment rooms.

I celebrated my 60th birthday with a one night stay with a room facing the royal castle and harbor walkway by the water. I arrived 2 hours too early and got a free coffee in the seaside Café but could enter the room one hour earlier than the booked arrival time. The package was called "Grand SPA Experience" and the room standard was deluxe with 5 meter long private Juliet balcony with a glass table and chairs facing the magnificent sea view with ferry's coming and going all the time. The SPA was very fresh and I used the Finnish sauna, a lovely steam bath, massage bath, cold bath and the pool! Great treatment before the room service dining dinner! Very good food quality where they got my steak perfectly made in accordance with my requirements! The breakfast was also perfect with omelet, bacon and all types of bread and toppings you would ever need! As a birthday bonus I got fresh strawberries, chocolates, cheesecake and personal greeting card, very appreciated! The hotel was very silent and calm, and with great AC as I like it pretty cool there was no problem lowering the room temperature. I must say the personnel was the biggest surprise though, they were very service minded and naturally personal and didn't exaggerate politeness! When entering the Hotel after an hour of absence the doorkeeper immediately recognized me, etc.! When leaving I needed to bring flowers with me and i mentioned that to room service and a florist came to the door wrapping up the flowers for my transport home, lovely! I'm very satisfied with the room standard. Very clean and well equipped, the disposable razor had a wooden shaft, binoculars with a guide of the view, there was a espresso machine in the room with different varieties of coffee, etc. With the package it was also possible to extend the stay with checkout as late as 2 pm at no extra cost, a very appreciated service I was happy to use! I must say I was sad to close the door and leave such a lovely hotel, and I can't wait to return!

I travel a great deal and I've never found a hotel that was such a wonderful package of elegance, the best location, friendliness, warmth and beauty. Almost nothing went wrong.
I thought I lost my passport on my way to the train station and came back to search the room. The gentleman at the front door took me up to the room, helped me search my bags and then found my passport at the bottom of my computer case. He was wonderfully helpful and kind.

Amazing hotel located in the heart of Stockholm. Set at the center of the marina and surrounded by all historic sites and upscale shopping. The hotel is a luxury hotel with every bit of attention to detail. The hotel decor is stunning and the rooms are spacious, and fitted with every personal comfort. The breakfast was one of the best we have experienced with an abundance of options and well-staffed. The price is modest for the hotel considering the cost of similar Ritz Carlton and other luxury brands and the level of service and accommodations provided. This is the crown jewel in Stockholm and one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in.

Belle epoch hotel with empire furnishings, but nothing musty about it. The location is the best and the elegant dining and bar area have a great view of the palace and major sites. I’m sorry, it was wet and cold when we were there so I don’t know.
Access to the pool, yes. Spa treatments can be booked.
It is about 15 minutes by taxi however traffic may slightly influence this timing.
There are a couple different areas where ships anchor. All are short drives. Our location was literally five minutes away from the hotel.
