Had a sailing club annual lunch, just over forty of us. Room on arrival cold we all stood around with our coars on, some never took them off. Meal was below par, not what we had pre ordered, beetroot mash instead of roast potatoes, meal served on cold plates so was luje warm by the time it arrived at the table It took over half an hour for everyone to be served their main course.

Poor service, greeting was being told the police had been in all day… cold bar full of football fans although out of sight all we could hear was swearing and cheering. Food below average. Restaurant had no atmosphere and was very cold. Don’t bother wasting your money at this place, we will never visit again!

Christmas Dinner, total disaster. Service disgraceful, food mediocre at best. Ambience like a cafe. Arrived at 3pm, left at 3.45pm, didn't bother with the meal. It's not as if the staff were run off their feet as restaurant was not busy. Very disappointed to have Xmas day ruined by such poor quality and lack of ambiance. Not worth the money glad it only cost me the deposit we paid back in September but even that was too much for what we actually had. Home for Beans on toast it us then.....

We were recommended this pub as a place to eat and stay by friends, who we were meeting during our visit and we were eating at the pub. 2 days before our stay we were messaged to confirm our stay and we confirmed we would be staying. When we arrived we were asked if we would like an upstairs or downstairs, followed by " I'll be honest we've got a party in here this evening" , so we requested a room farthest away from noise. When we arrived in the Bar at 7pm to wait for friends there was a party in the main Bar, at one end and another party going on at the other end in the willow Room. And the eating area was in between the 2, hence we spent all night shouting at each other. Why on earth they couldn't have given us the heads up about parties when they messaged us 2 days before the stay, we could of at least opted to book our meal elsewhere. Food was OK, but just OK. The room was tired, and the layer of dust, hair etc on the headboard, was nothing short of gross. Needless to say we have emailed the owner and made staff aware prior to leaving the pub that we were unhappy and our friends who recommended the pub based on their friends past experience, were highly embarrassed and indeed very disappointed and I'm pretty sure they will not recommend in the future.....a shame. Breakfast was good and breakast staff were excellent.....

My wife and I stopped off for food on a whim during a weekend drive around rural Essex. A very warm welcome, the young lady who took our order was genuinely friendly and made us feel like our custom was valued. We enjoyed a meal from the bar menu, which had a nice range of food. The food was really good, and excellent value for money. We chose to sit outside and enjoy the sunshine, the manager kindly obtained a parasol to put on our table, which I think was a really nice gesture. Would definitely visit again and would recommend a visit.

Had wedding breakfast at the willow room 8 years ago and was amazing food, attention to detail and ambience. Returned today in the bull restaurant for anniversary lunch 8 years later, knowing it had changed hands since our wedding, but faced with absolute disappointment and sadness of what has become of the lovely "The Bull". Car park had broken fence, plastic bottles and mac d wrappers along the hedges, sign on gate hanging off, grounds generally look rundown and once were beautifully kept and garden which we have fond memories of. Brewery advertising umbrellas out front, old chalk board event signs left from years ago, cigerette packets in flower pots, glasses left on wall. Staff friendly on arrival, however far from gastro experience snd ambience as live football blaring from the big screen in bar area and no music in restaurant just echoing sound of the big screen. Only one option for vegetarian (raviolli) on the menu and portion was more a starter x5 pieces of raviolli), sauce overpowered by chilli, and pieces of courgette skin battered and fried in what tasted like ghee oil. Husbands steak pie required hammer and chisel to get into and only pastry top and meat fatty and grissly. Roast pots tasted like reheated probably from Sunday lunch. We were the only guests however were left as if not there. Husband even told lady on phone when booked we were returning and anniversary meal. Only asked if food was OK when plates collected and I did give my honest feedback to polite member of staff. Would have stayed for dessert and coffee as was our special day and rare occasion to eat out together and arranged child care. Couldn't wait to leave and got the bill. We were there for not even an hour and only that long as food took a while to come. Thankfully we still have happy memories of our wedding there but will never return again. More like No No than Gastro. Such a shame on all accounts.

pickle1993 Ipswich, United Kingdom 2417 Reviewed 6 days ago via mobile Never encountered service like it! Disgraceful. My husband booked a well earned two nights away and surprise for me at this bed and breakfast accommodation. The welcome on our arrival, Friday night was poor, not very welcoming. Within half an hour of our arrival around 7pm my husband had taken a seriously bad fall on sheer ice which completely covered the access from our room to our car to collect our baggage. It was also very poorly lit. We mentioned this and his fall as we left on our way out for the evening and another guest also overheard and stepped in to agree that he was also very concerned about the ice and poor lighting. I asked politely if the area could be salted as soon as possible. This had not been done when we returned at the end of the evening or in the morning. Breakfast left me speechless. In all my years of travelling around the world I have never encountered such rude, disgraceful service. No “Good Morning” No “what can I get you?” No eye contact. Just a man in a jacket and hoodie with it up over his head wearing sliders and track suit bottoms and no expression on his face at all. We felt an inconvenience to be there! He couldn’t find fruit juice for the empty jugs on display, no milk, had we wanted cereals and our food was stone cold which included eggs. The only saving grace was that we didn’t have to meet him again the next day. But we were nearly expected to sit next to a tv with a real life tv Call the Bailiffs programme on the screen full of abuse just 1ft away from our table. I politely asked if it could be changed to something more light hearted while we ate as others guests weren’t interested in the programme either. The room was good, clean and comfortable, and newly decorated. They let themselves down on customer service. And do not appear to be a happy team.

We were shown to a dark downstairs bedroom, decorated in a black theme. There was mould in the shower and the radiators were clogged with dust/hair. There was a dubious looking white stain on the curtains. The route from the room goes past the gents toilets, which always had the door left open, with the urinals proudly on show. Food is average, not homemade and not gastro cuisine as we had expected. The breakfast cereals were packed away whilst we were still sitting there, half an hour before the end of breakfast. The lady overseeing breakfast clearly wanted everyone to finish breakfast, so she could start cleaning the rooms. She was outside our bedroom door at 10.50am waiting for the key. We were fooled by the website and will not be returning.

Stayed here for one night as we were attending a wedding at a nearby venue. Accommodation was very good with a comfortable bed, clean room, hot shower and big white bath towels. Breakfast was included in our stay and the full English and the smoked salmon with scrambled eggs were delicious. Hotel was able to accommodate us with an early arrival.
