We were upgraded on arrival. Adequate breakfast considering circumstances . Delightful female staff ...really lovely. Hotel ideal for historic sights near many restaurants and close to tube. Would recommend for short stay in the city.

I booked a room in advance for 4nights as I was traveling to Athens for work. The position was central for my work appointments and for feeling nice and safe traveling alone. At midnight the day before my arrival (8hrs before flying) they just send me an email with "sorry we have technical problems and you'll be directed to another hotel in metaxourgeio no paying more". Who knows Athens like I do knows that metaxourgeio is not the safest place to stay and it is far from where I had to work. I refused and booked another hotel. After going to the tourist police to say what happened they made sure to keep only the first night and give my money back. Still waiting the receipt that according to the very "polite" lady from the reception has been made. I am Greek and this is simply a SHAME FOR GREEK TOURISM AND GREEK PEOPLE. You are liars, thieves and poor people to steal money from tourist. Hope you can look yourself in the mirror in the morning. Congratulations!

1. I booked a room in Phidias hotel due to information that was presented on Booking.com (pictures, price, services description).  Phidias hotel got all money for all period immediately (220.50 euro) 2. When my husband and I touched down in Athens and reached after midnight the hotel - we faced with the situation that hotel sent us a notification about "some issues with room" 8 hours ago. We were in fly during this time and couldn`t check email. In this email, Phidias hotel asked us to go directly to another hotel Golden City hotel of the same family hotels. We missed this their request. 3.  Phidias hotel ordered a taxi for us to sent us to Golden City Hotel. All is okay, instead of that this hotel is placed in the most criminal area of Athens and at night there was some criminals and prostitutes.  4. There is a difference between the prices of these hotels and no one compensation was proposed or discussed. (Phidias hotel 65 euro /night, Golden City hotels  - 35 euro/night). I think it`s a fraud.  5. We asked to return to Phidias hotel. But no one from services in both hotels didn˜t ask us or proposed to do it, until we ordered taxi and forced to return to booked early hotel.   I think there is a secret deal between these hotels. They covered their track as a "service upgrade".  But due to this case and price, it`s a downgrade.  6. Phidias hotel proposed us the cheapest and the smallest room, rather looked as a cupboard.  No one of the pictures that placed on Bookimg.com don`t suit to this cupboard. (See picture in attachment.) I didn`t have a chance to check quality of the room when I made the booking.  Just book, pay money and only later with confirmation can understand approximately what room I can have in this Hotel (any mentions about the absence of windows before confirmation)   7. I proposed to pay more to have a normal condition. Phidias hotel refused me arguing that they have all their room booked. I checked meanwhile reservation on Booking.com - rooms were available for booking at the same time.  8. I asked to have my money back - Phidias hotel refused to do it because of non-refundable booking. I canˆt stay in these conditions, can`t pay more and can`t have my money back.

We stayed for a night last Saturday. We were lucky. We stayed in a double room as booked by our friend who also got their room of choice. It's a nice hotel in a great location. We were part of a larger group some of whom had booked their basement rooms. On arrival we were told the basement rooms were unserviceable and had a problem with air circulation. Our friends were then offered a free transfer and upgrade to a sister hotel. The alternative hotel is in an area with a big social problems of drugs and prostitution. How safe it is who knows, but the perceoption is very bad and an area where our group members (many are Greeks) said to avoid. Our friends accepted the transfer reluctantly and went by taxi. They only left the hotel by taxi and were frightened to walk the streets at night. Phidias, on the other hand, was chosen primarily for its location. Were they just unlucky? It seems not. There is a pattern of reviews suggesting the same. Our other friends were given another room in Philidas and were happy. The couple sent elsewhere were told there are no more rooms. This was at 4pm. At 7pm I looked on line for that night at Phidias. Booking.com were offering standard double rooms (with view) which we were told were unavailable to our friends. They were also offering basement rooms which we were told were unserviceable. You could book these rooms for that night on a no refund basis for a better price. Had you of done so I am sure you would have been sent to the sister hotel in the unpleasant neigbhourhood. This appears to be a scam. So enjoy your stay at Phidias if you are lucky and not transferred. Our booking was interesting as we arrived together as a group but had all booked independantly. It was a lottery and deeply unsatisfactory. Had I arrived and not encountered these circumstances with my friends and what appears to be a deliberate misleading of customers, I would have been very happy with this small hotel.

The hotel is very tricky, Please pay more attention , I visited Athens on Nov 2019, I booked it through Booking.com. The hotel seems very nice to arrange a taxi pickup us with over 20% higher than market price, and when I were on the way to the hotel , the driver got the call from the hotel and we were told that our booking is the basement without window. The will provide another more healthier hotel ( Golden City Hotel) to us. Sounds good , right? Definitely not, since 1) the location is not in a safe place, 2) the hotel price is cheaper than Phidias Hotel. but the Phidias refuse to refund the gaps (15 Euro $) 3) They canceled my booking by themselves without any refund and I have no right to give the review on booking.com. 4) Golden city hotel is Phidias's sister hotel. That's really the bad experience.
