Comfy boutique hotel walking distance to good restaurants and central area, although the immediate surroundings aren’t very interesting. Room was well appointed and nicely soundproofed, we never heard any guests and construction across the street, through audible, wasn’t loud enough to wake us up. Helpful friendly staff and good breakfast with buffet and a la carte options. But watch your step outside the front door, the slanted steps seem designed to trip people up (but walking in Athens you’ll see this is pretty common).

Centrally located, just off Syntagma square, and a 5 minute walk from Syntagma metro station, Academias makes for a great base to explore Athens.

My one night stay here was great. Despite not long having reopened following local lockdowns, the staff throughout the hotel were friendly and helpful.

Check in was quick and efficient. The front office staff were very welcoming. I was quickly accompanied to my room.
I was upgraded to an Executive guest room with City View. Both the room and the hotel throughout feature dark marble as part of the decor which gives it a dramatic feel. Overall the hotel had a Classic and Modern fusion feel.

My room had a very comfortable bed, with floor to ceiling windows. There were complimentary water and coffee making amenities but no tea, which is not something I often find at hotels, although it seems to have been the case at a number of properties throughout Greece this year. I’m sure if I contacted housekeeping they would have provided me with tea.

The spacious bathroom continued the marble theme along with gold metalwork. Complimentary Molton Brown bathroom amenities were also available.

Breakfast was served at Symposium restaurant and it was a combination of a la carte and a small supervised buffet. The staff were again very friendly and efficient. Some guests were just helping themselves, but people seemed to be taking the right precautions.

All in all, I had a very enjoyable stay at the Academias hotel and I would highly recommend it.

Wife and I were here for 3 nights in June.

After dropping off our rental car at ATH. We bought a 72hr tourist Metro ticket that included round trip Metro to the airport and all public transport at Athens for 20 euros each. 45 minutes later we were at the hotel getting off from Syntagma station.

Our check in process was efficient and simple. The guy at the front desk answered all of our questions about the city. Our room was luxurious, clean and comfortable. I do wish they have a mini fridge in the room that's not full of items like the mini bar. The view from our room was into other people's apartments, not much to rave about there. The bed was super comfortable, WiFi worked perfectly through out my wife's 2hr online classes and meetings. the bathroom was luxurious with a shower and a tub. We especially loved the Molton Brown toiletries. The hair dryer was the only thing that was pitiful. I think they should upgrade that to a strong high wattage full sized hair dryer.

From the hotel we were able to visit everything Athens via buses and subway. We were so centrally located it's nice to be able to reach Plaka, Monastiraki, Psyri, Thiseio, Kolonaki all just by walking. There were lots of fantastic coffee places near the hotel such as: Taf, Peek a Bloom, and Kaya Spirit.

Our COVID rapid test to get back to the US was done just 5 minutes walking away at Central Clinic of Athens. the result was given in like 90 seconds.

Overall it was a wonderful hotel, we had 3 great night sleep here and we will be back.

We booked this hotel for 2 days prior to leaving on a Mediterranean cruise from the port. We asked the hotel to send a car to pick us up at the airport and for just a few euros more than catching a cab, there was a driver with a sign at the luggage area to help us with our luggage and a comfortable mercedes to drive us to the hotel. Everyone was outstanding, the driver, the two bell hops, who also got us cabs while we were there, the front desk staff, the room was immaculate. We got the breakfast for the two days, which turned out to be a very good idea as it was excellent with extensive choiceson a menu in addition to a buffet setting and with eggs cooked to order. The food was very good. My husband also liked the cappuchino they served for breakfast. We were seated at breakfast and for the fixed price we paid for breakfast, we could order anything off the menu. One of the items we split was the avocado toast, which was the best avocado toast I have had anywhere. I took a cab to the Acropolis and walked back from there. The staff were very helpful, printing out our luggage tags for the cruise, referring us to a nearby clinic where we got our precruise covid PCR tests for 47 euros with results emailed to us within 4 hours. The hotel staff printed out hard copies of the results so we could show them when we boarded. Everyone spoke English and we met another couple staying there who were going on our cruise.
The first night we had dinner at the roof restaurant, a Japanese restaurant with a nice view of the Acropolis (of course we took pictures). The food was excellent as was the service. There is an indoor pool, but this was our first trip to Athens, so we didn't have time to go swimming, although my husband looked at it and said it looked great. Maybe the next time we go we'll have time to go swimming.

So, in these pandemic times, the Academias felt pretty deserted and it was being run on skeleton staffing. Not that this matters too much (though don’t expect a late check-out). Staff were friendly and welcoming and accommodated us as best they could.

The rooms and hotel have a great contemporary design. The bed was incredibly comfortable and there was effective, nearly silent aircon. I really liked the ambience and décor at Academias.

Handy for Syntagma Square (less than 10 mins walk).

Breakfast was a bit of a mess. They’re clearly trying hard with COVID restrictions, so there are lots of individually portioned items and an attempt to cook you some eggs to order. though in our experience, an edible omelette isn’t something you can reasonably expect on the first attempt. Breakfast was taking place in the bar area with, inexplicably, the settings on tables incredibly close together, much closer than you would be in the normal restaurant. This is a bit silly given the size of bar area, no? I don’t know much about these things but I do suspect I’m more likely to catch a virus from fellow guests than I am from a bowl of muesli.

The hotel was perfectly located for us at the edge of the fashionable Kolonaki neighborhood, away from the hustle and bustle of Syntagma square, but still close, making it an easy walk to the main attractions in either direction. The closest subway Panepistimio is a short walk away, and for those interested easy access by train to the airport.

The hotel is modern and tastefully decorated. We arrived early in the morning and had requested an early check-in, which we got, along with an upgrade to our room. The room did not have a view, but was larger than the average room and very comfortable. The bedding and pillows were great. The bathroom also great, with wonderful products and water pressure. The espresso machine with Lavazza coffee also a plus.

We had not included breakfast in our stay, as we prefer breakfast in the room. The room service was prompt and accommodating and the food very good.

We used the pool and sauna, which are compact but nice. The pool is on the chilly side, but was expected, due to the energy crisis in Europe. In fact, we very much appreciated the hotel's effort to be eco friendly, from the virtual key, to plastic reduction, lighting etc.

A must is a visit to the restaurant on the top floor, the food and atmosphere are great but the views of Acropolis and Mount Lycabettus stunning.

Last but not least, the staff at the hotel is the real gem, kind and helpful, welcoming and warm. We arrived on a day where the taxis in Athens were on strike, and the staff had forwarded us and helped us with alternative solution. The day we left was Greek independence day, and we were also advised beforehand of closures due to the parade and things to do

I cannot explain how disappointed and dissatisfied I am with this hotel…

I am going to list the things which made me rate this hotel so badly:

❎ the cleaning person threw my husband clothes to the side like garbage and deliberately put the busy sign on with a note saying she was unable to refill the mini bar because we put the ‘busy’ sign up which we haven’t… she did!
❎ other guests in the hotel entered our room! - yes you read it correctly… it was so fortunate that my husband and I were at the room when that happened and we had all our tech belongings out in the open and I was coming out from the shower…. It was utterly shocking and we both didn’t feel safe at the hotel afterwards… despite talking to the front desk who took this matter so lightly and they didn’t seem to grasp the severity of how this situation is unacceptable for a hotel with their standard!!! The excuse which was offered to us was the person who checked in and my husband name share the same name… again, unacceptable excuses!!
We were offered a lame amenity as an apology which was a bottle of Presseco and a plate of fruits…
Fortunately, we were able to negotiate our way to leaving the hotel before our intended departure day without penalty charges…
❎literally on our departure, one of the bell guys was about to put our luggage in a taxi which belonged to another customer…

It is a shame about this hotel as it has potential of being a really good and nice hotel if it wasn’t for the incompetent staff and potentially lack of training and understanding of how exceptional hotels should run.

The only positive I can write about is the rooms service and break fast menu as I do think their food quality is good.

All in all, we are never staying in this hotel again and I’d consider the option of selecting this hotel very carefully since other people can literally walk into your room…

Since I can't sleep anyway due to the private party above me with thumping club music, I thought I'd write my review for my stay. Hey, by the way, I totally have FOMO ("fear of missing out") and wish the hotel management would have invited us to party crash upstairs at the rooftop restaurant for the private party since our room is directly below!!! They could have at least given us some free drinks at the lobby bar to help as a sleep aid. So, as I write this review it is 1am and the party is still going strong. ugh...sigh...

About the hotel, the people at the desk were fine, no issues, just normal. The bartender in the lobby bar was really good. We enjoyed our drinks and the setting. Our room, #72, is small, but has everything you need. The decor was elegant with brass finishes in the bathroom. I loved the large deep bathtub and the water pressure was really strong. The most annoying thing about the bathroom were the tolietries. The shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel was mounted to the wall. If you are taking a bath, you have no way to get soap unless you stand up during your bath. On the bright side, the shampoo and everything is very posh, "DIptyque"! This I loved. I just wish it was put in individual bottles or at least thought about the placement of the bottles.

The hotel location was really perfect for our weekend needs. We didn't want to be right in the touristy area, but the Academias was close enough to walk to everything. I'd definitely stay here again although I would request a different room.

On arrival to the hotel at a late hour on Sunday night we were welcomed by the front desk, no one to assist us with our luggage or offer help when entering the hotel. We were told that we have been upgraded to a high floor room and we’re told that we booked a low floor room. That was a first for me to be told that a room on floor 6 is an upgrade I didn’t see on my reservation any mentioning that we booked a low floor room. When entering the room I immediately noticed the next door construction site, that is very near and all you can see from the window. As soon as we went down I spoke to the receptionist and asked if this will be an issue, he replied that they aren’t planned to work this week so we won’t be disturbed. I found that strange, but as he was so confident with his answer we were happy that is the situation. Additionally, we had wanted to walk the streets of Athens by night and were guided that we are in an unsafe area and to make sure just to walk towards the center city. Again, this had made us uncomfortable with the location of the hotel.
At 6am we woke up from the sound of constant drilling in the building next door. We felt as if our room was inside a construction site. I do understand that it isn’t done inside the hotel but our room wasn’t suited for sleeping. We were very tired since we did have a flight and late night out but couldn’t sleep.
We were downgraded to a small but quiet room, were told that we won't be refunded for the difference since we wanted to move. it was a lot of stressful arguing with the different staff members.
The Spa is a joke, water pool is freezing. we booked a treatment prior to seeing the facility and it was unprofessional and a very uncomfortable bed.

We had reached out to the hotel manger, but he didn't even bother to respond to our email.
Athens is such a beautiful city with many great hotels, my recommendation is to stay away from this place since they have no respect for the customers.

Academias Hotel is very modern and immaculate. Every detail is well thought out from the welcome drink, to the sleek rooms, and the philosopher quotes everywhere to be seen. The location is fantastic for exploring Athens and the staff is always there to help with directions or questions. The rooftop Japanese restaurant has outstanding food and views. Breakfast is good and I love the design of the breakfast space. Plato Bar looked fantastic though I didn't check it out. I would definitely stay here again.

Does hotel offer transport from airport? Cost?
Answer from Cards-Preds-Fan
Memphis, Tennessee457 contributions122 helpful votes
No, it does not. I can't think of anywhere I've been in Europe that has a hotel shuttle. There may be somewhere, but it's not common. We took the Metro from the airport to Syntagma Square for 9 EUR. If you have heavy luggage, even if it’s on rollers, be aware that you can take an elevator and avoid one set of steps up from the train level to the square but there is another giant set of steps required to get up to Vasilissis Sofias Avenue unless you take the long way around. It is then about a 650 meter walk to the hotel. Under normal conditions Google Maps thinks that’s about a 9-minute walk but let me tell you that when you’re lugging a 45-pound suitcase and a backpack and the temperature is over 70 degrees with humidity, it sure feels a lot longer. Were I doing this trip again, I’d take the Metro from the airport to Syntagma station but then change from the blue line to the red line and go on to the Panepistimio station, which is only 270 meters away, or a 4-minute walk without luggage though its mostly uphill. There is an elevator in Korai Square which is across the street from the main Panepistimio station entrances that will take you down to the train level. While I would certainly be fine with taking the Metro from the airport again, if I was returning to the airport I would only take the Metro if the temperature was cooler. We worked up quite the sweat hauling our large luggage around in the Athens heat, even in mid-to-late October and I would not want to be that sticky and then have to get on a plane.
