The Electra Metropolis Athens merges contemporary luxury with comfort, enchanting guests with its stylish spaces and a rooftop that offers breathtaking Acropolis vistas. The hotel's cleanliness garners consistent accolades, with rooms and bathrooms maintained to a high standard. While the prime location is ideal for exploring Athens, some guests find room noise and A/C functionality problematic.
The amenities, including a rooftop with captivating views and a sumptuous breakfast, are popular, though the pool's size and certain bathroom designs have drawn criticism. Service is generally excellent; however, opinions on value for money are mixed, with some guests expecting more for the price.

Detailed Reviews
Hotel's Favorite
The location is in a clean and safe neighbourhood that's close to a number of sites of interest. It was walkable to the Acropolis, Ancient Agora, Syntagma Square, shopping and food. However, as it was the hub of the Christmas festivities, the traffic jam was terrible. It took about 20 mins to move 2-3 kms.
Reception was friendly and helpful. They also had complimentary Greek Christmas desserts at the lobby, and gifted us a box of them on Christmas eve. [I really love that Greece always gives free desserts in restaurants and hotels.]
Booked the superior double room. It was comfortable and clean with a spacious bathroom. Do note that not all rooms have bathtubs. The bed was comfortable and firm, and the heating/ air-con worked very well.
Breakfast was the HIGHLIGHT. The Roof Garden provides you 360 degree views of the surrounding city, allowing you to see for miles and miles to the Aegean sea. It provides unblocked views of the Acropolis, which you should see against the colourful dawn sky. TIP: Go at dawn to get the best seats! There was a wide range of delicious food, including Greek desserts and honeycomb. Service was friendly and attentive. We had dinner there too and similarly, it was an excellent experience.

We finally made it to Athens with no quarantining on our return to London. We had booked Athens twice before and twice been cancelled – first due to stay at the Novotel and then secondly, at the Melia. On the third booking, I decided to change to the Electra Metropolis and I am so pleased that we did.
The hotel has everything in place to social distance and keep the hotel as clean as possible. They ask you not to share lifts, there is hand sanitizer dotted throughout the hotel and they ask you to wear face masks – the staff also wear face masks and have plastic screens when speaking with guests.
We upgraded our hotel room from a deluxe balcony to a deluxe balcony Acropolis view due to us needing twin beds. I emailed the hotel direct (I had booked the holiday via BA Holidays) and dealt with Vasso who for a small charge changed the room to a twin bed with a view and what a view – the Acropolis! You can see from the photos attached.
You could not fault the breakfast. Due to Covid, there are two staff placing items on your plate, but you can go up to the breakfast bar as many times as you like. A lovely staff member (sorry I didn’t get him name), remembered me every morning and knew that I was the British lady who likes a cup of tea with milk!
The Electra Metropolis is central and close to the main shopping area, Plaka (think Covent Garden) but dangerously for me near gold shops!
I absolutely loved Athens, but one word of warning, please be careful of the taxis. I travelled from Mount Lycabettus to Piraeus port where the taxi driver claimed I had given him 15 euros instead of 35 euros by switching one of the notes. Very disappointed about this as I know I had handed over the correct money. You can use the Uber app in Athens, not only do you get the best rates, money is not exchanged as it is all taken care of via credit/debit cards.

Location:
The hotel where we originally booked was closed so it was a last minute reservation.
Because of the corona virus I was not keen on using public transportation so we tried to find a hotel with a central location. It is very hard to find a better location. The hotel is very close to Syntagma, Monastirakis, Plaka, Ermou and even Akropolis. We did all our visits on foot.
Check in:
From the very first contact, we felt very safe. Everybody is wearing face masks, they keep an eye on the elevators to make sure you never share the elevator with strangers, hand hygiene, social distancing, ... All excellent. Very smooth, friendly and welcoming check in.
Rooms:
Comfortable beds, nice sheets, lots of space, beautiful bathroom, shower could do with a bit more light.
Pool:
Because this was a last minute reservation I did not pay attention to the fact the hotel has a roof top pool so this was a nice surprise. Places at the swimming pool are limited so at the time we arrived there were no seats available but I prefer these measures so social distancing can be guaranteed. We were able to swim so very nicely done.
Breakfast:
Having breakfast outside with a beautiful view of the Akropolis was such a nice beginning of our vacation. There was no buffet but a short list of breakfast items to choose from and these items were brought to the table. Service was a bit slow but at the beginning of July everybody was still trying to get used to the new circumstances. Great coffee.
Parking:
We were able to park the rental car at the sister hotel Electra palace for 12 Euro per night so good option. This hotel is within walking distance.
We feel very privileged that we were able to travel to Athens and Greece. Everybody was very welcoming. There were about 20 people at the Akropolis so it was a unique visit. If we visit Athens again, I will not hesitate to stay at the Electra Metropolis hotel again.

We were looking for somewhere we could travel without isolating on return - Athens it is!! So glad we picked the Electra Metropolis. Welcome from the doorman was lovely, shown to a spotlessly clean double room after a quick check in. We went up to the rooftop bar as we arrived late and were astonished at the beautiful view. Breakfast was a lovely selection of hot and cold food. Lunch/snack menu was limited but the food was superb with the best feta cheese I’ve ever tasted.
The pool area is lovely but small with limited seating in the sun.
The only slight issue was the super slow service on drinks, whether at lunch, breakfast or by the pool, no one seems to rush here and you can be kept waiting for a while.
Location is excellent and it’s in the centre of all the bars and restaurants.
The hotel took cleanliness during covid very seriously enforcing mask wearing, wrapping towels individually and everything was spotless. I would go back in a heartbeat.

Superb hotel located in the Syntagma area of Athens and on the edge of Plaka where there are many many restaurants to choose from. Perfect location to walk to the Syntagma square and see the changing of the guard as well as near the stunning National gardens. All main attractions very walkable. Excellent reception team and concierge staff. Room was very comfortable and whilst we were on a side road Room it was pretty quiet. A very good quality city centre hotel with a twist of having a beautiful pool area and the best views of the Acropolis. Great pool service too. Every morning breakfast has views of Athens to die for of the Acropolis and pop up there in the evening for a cocktail to see the sunset before venturing out to enjoy one of the many many restaurants in Athens.
The restaurant staff are excellent and the Lady Matre D at breakfast very lovely and helpful. Breakfasts have a great continental and ‘English’ type selection including fresh honey off from the hive. Fully recommended and would go back.

Negatives;-
As with many busy city hotels - waiting for a lift can happen but that is not worth a reason not to visit.

I stayed here for a few nights whilst on a trip to Athens. The location of the hotel is great just a few minutes from Syntagma Square and the Metro station (direct link to airport). There are plenty of nice restaurants and bars in the vicinity and also very close to many shops.
The hotel itself if very modern with spacious rooms, a good level of amenities and the views from the rooftop bar/restaurant are breath-taking. The staff was particularly helpful and went above and beyond to ensure that my stay was as comfortable as possible. The quality of food and selection at breakfast was also good although there may be some room here for further improvement.
The only two areas I think need some rethinking given it is classed as a five star establishment are the gym (somewhat small and with limited equipment - could do with double the size) and the lack of an iron/ironing board in rooms which would be expected for this category.
As far as hotels go in Athens however in this category I would say this is one of the best especially considering most competing assets are tired having not seen substantial investment for some time.

My 7 year old son and I stayed for two nights before flying out to the islands. We were in Athens predominantly for the acropolis and you really couldn't conjure up a better location and view than the Electra for such a visit (I giddily snuck out of bed on numerous occasions each night to sneak another glimpse at the Parthenon).
Staff, hygiene and logistics were all appropriate for Corona concerns.
My only gripe would be that the restaurant still operates on the "serve one carrot with an elaborate squiggle of jus and you can call it 'high cuisine' and charge a fortune" attitude that most top European hotels and restaurants grew out of about 10 years ago.
That aside, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and I would absolutely recommend my friends stay here if visiting Athens.

This is a great hotel within walking distance of all the attractions. The hotel has a 5* rating so it does deliver that service. It has a magnificent terrace on the 10th floor that overlooks the Acropolis, here you will find the restaurant, bar and outdoor pool. The rooms are spacious and nicely appointed with a small balcony and some rooms face the Acropolis. However, you will need to be on the upper floors to get a good view. The bed and pillows were very comfortable and the room had the usual amenities, bathrobes, sleepers, complimentary water, tea & coffee and a well stocked bar fridge. The bathroom was very modern with a large glass enclosed rain shower (YES, no bath or shower curtain!); however some rooms have a shower bath. The water pressure and temperature were always excellent. The buffet style breakfast was included and was served at the restaurant on the 10th floor, the food on offer was fresh, delicious, well presented and the serving staff attentive. We used the restaurant and bar many times during our stay as the views from here are outstanding. If I were to return to Athens again I would definitely stay at this establishment.

This was our first visit to Athens and I’m so glad we chose this hotel as our experience would be very different if not staying here. The location is fantastic opposite from some really nice restaurants, less than a minutes walk from some very nice casual bars, less than 5mins walk to the Plaka district. You are right in the city centre here but the hotel is so nice and quiet that you are away from the hustle and bustle. The rooms were very clean. All COVID secure the remote control was wrapped up as were the bathroom towels. Breakfast was very orderly and the views from the breakfast room/terrace and pool are simply amazing. Amazing to swim in the rooftop pool whilst looking at the Acropolis. Also go to the rooftop bar for a different night time view. I would definitely stay here again if I came back.

We spent four nights in this beautiful hotel and were not disappointed. Hotel is in a great location, in the heart of Athens, which made walking very easy. Our room was clean and housekeeping did a good job of keeping it so throughout our stay. The breakfast spread was decent but nothing wow. We had dinner at the restaurant on the tenth floor at the food was absolutely delicious with nighttime views of the acropolis as a added bonus.
The hotel has a spa with quite a wide range of treatments, we visited twice and on both occasions were not disappointed. I highly recommend a visit to the spa. We were there to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. I mentioned this while making reservations and they had a lovely chocolate cake and sparkling wine for us on arrival. The only disappointing experience we had, I must mention. We called room service to request an iron, which was never delivered. This was the second request made to room service, for which we got no response. That notwithstanding, we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend this hotel.
