Stayed for a week in the oceanview twin room. The location is great, with grocery stores and cafes/restaurants nearby and easy bus connections to Funchal city centre (15-min ride). But the best part were the hosts, Joel and Bruno, who helped me a lot with navigating the bus system, arranged a taxi at a short notice and were kind enough to give me a quick ride to the aerobus stop. In short, highly recommended!

We absolutely loved our stay here! Our hosts gave us great recommendations for restaurants and hikes around the island and also for parking in Funchal. The rooms were spacious and overlooked the water. It is in a great location as it is about a 12 minute drive from downtown Funchal. There was parking directly outside the hotel which was convenient for us. Also, every morning we were brought fresh bread for breakfast. We would definitely stay here again!

Vila Marta is an outstanding place to stay in Funchal! Was greeted by Bruno, son of the owner, who offered me a taste of Madeira wine, dry or sweet, as I was checking in. There was a nice fruit basket and items for a first breakfast in the room when I arrived...nice touch! The room was clean, comfortable, and quiet. Nice kitchen, good shower, beautiful view of the ocean from the balcony. Daily maid service and fresh bread hanging on the doorknob every morning! But the best thing of all was the hospitality of the owner, Joel, and his son, Bruno. They were so friendly and helpful, giving tips on restaurants, places to buy groceries, and things to see and do. They bend over backwards to ensure you have a great stay. And I had a great stay! It's advisable to have a car if you stay here, since it is away from central Funchal and up a steep hill from the Lido area. But the location is perfect for being away from the masses, to enjoy a quiet and comfortable stay. Madeira is an amazing island, and Vila Marta is the perfect place to stay when you visit!

We have been traveling abroad for quite a few years but never have we felt so motivated to write a review of our accommodation. The hosts Joel, Marta and their son Bruno provided the best care, service and attention we have ever experienced. Throughout our stay at this wonderful accommodation the family did everything possible to make our stay enjoyable,trouble free and memorable. The rooms are cleaned meticulously every day and Joel and Bruno are always on hand to give advice and help whenever needed.I read the reviews before booking and hoped it would be half as good but I was amazed to find that it was even better than the reviews if this is possible. When choosing where to stay in Madeira we saw the excellent reviews for Villa Marta - some of the best we have come across. Am delighted to report they are all still relevant and true! Joel, Marta, and Bruno certainly have a winning formula. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and can fully recommend Villa Marta. The regular local buses mean this destination is still accessible for those without a car and it's certainly worth staying here if you do not want to be in the main touristy hotel zone.

Stayed for 7 nights in the Suite which is 50% larger than the Studios; well worth the small additional price. The whole Suite is cleaned daily, beds made, and linen changed every 2 days. Fresh bread delivered to your door every morning for breakfast. Free wifi worked well in the lounge area of the Suite, it was also fast at a measured 35 Mbps. Vila Marta provided everything we hoped for .... and then some more. Superb personal attention and service from the owners who are always to hand.

Difficult to beat this place as long as you think about positive properties of a hotel and what you paid for it! Situated between the Sea and the Expressway, the hotel is excelling in cleanliness, friendliness and attention. Before arrival, we were asked about arrival time to make sure the room is ready. We got a map of the surrounding area (including hand-written updates for new areas), as well as instructions about where to find a supermarket, restaurant, fuel station and take-away place. Parking was available in the street and in critical cases more is available about 100 m away.
To reach the Sea, it’s about a 15 minutes’ drive down, which you can do either by public transportation or car. We were given all the tricks to avoid excess parking fees (although not how to avoid a flat tire as there is massive construction in the harbor area in the center!)
We had a sea-faced room (about 10 m2 balcony, room about 10 x 3 m, with an own little kitchen (basic for breakfast, otherwise a bit tight), a sofa group plus dinner table. All was in absolutely impeccable condition. The same is true for the bathroom (WC, bath tub, bidet), almost clinically clean! Plus real orchids in the living area, not that stuffy plastic we are all used to.
The managers (Joel the father and Bruno his son) take care of you 24/7. If you explore the island, they will ask you about your destination, just in case of an emergency. Questioning is not done because of curiosity, but taking care of you if help is needed. Maintenance of the room is taken place by secret angels, it seems!
For those visiting Madeira, this is an ideal place. It allows you to visit the city, and you are close enough to the express way for exploring other areas of exciting Madeira. Last but not least: The place is worth its price!
