This was our second time in Madiera. Our first time staying at the Valhalla having had lunch there on our first trip. The room was a ground floor apartment with a small garden, with amazing views over the city. The garden was secluded and was an idea location to watch the sun rise. Located 15 minutes walk from the center of Funcha, but be ready for the return steep walk back up. Hosts were accommodating and welcoming. We will return

My wife and I were braving the walk down the hill after completing the tobogganing. It was hot and sunny and we were ready for a beer and a sit down, and there was the sign for free beer and wifi, well cold beer and free wifi! Great pit stop with superb views and friendly bar staff.

Had a long weekend at Vallhalla appartments same owner as the Panarama and the Casa. We had a 2 bedroom appartment wich was as good as new clean and fully equipped. Walkining distance to the center of town perfect location. The owner mr Oddbjørn Jensen showed us also the Panorama and the Casa also very nice places With the Odin bar as a raisin to get a good homemade Poncha and an impressive view of Funchal. Prices are affordable and service crew are amazing.
Hope i will have the chance some time to come back to Funchal and if so i know where i will book .

An excellent base for a week in Madeira.
Close enough to the Old Town up on the hill.
Overlooking the harbour from the pool for a bit of cruise-liner spotting.
The staff are amazing, thank you Micaela and Magdalena

My wife and I recently spent a week here and thought it wonderful. Situated around a 15 minute walk to the town centre the walk is not too difficult though we did take a taxi on the return. Allow the taxi to run on the meter the charge will be around 4/6 euros, agree a price before will be a little higher we found.
The hotel is quite basic but spotlessly clean and the rooms facing the harbour have spectacular views. The room we had an excellent free WIFI connection but if this is important it would be better to request this at booking as I have no idea how the connection is in other rooms.
The breakfast was continental in style but we found to be plenty. The bread rolls were fresh and delicious. The breakfast varied by day between yoghurt, banana, cheese, ham, salami. The coffee was filtered and of a good quality.
There was a safety deposit box in the room chargeable at €2 a day but frankly is probably not needed, staff are on duty 24/7. The bar is frequented by local people and was a nice meeting place.
Robert the night security man arranged a lovely full day tour for us taking us above the cloud level for magnificent views and this would be recommended for those wanting to venture out. He also arranged our return to the airport by private transfer.
Micaela the receptionist has impeccable english and is happy to help with advice whenever needed.
If you want a simple hotel with amazing views where your stay is important to the management, you won't be disappointed.

This old fashioned hotel is nice and quiet as it is slightly removed from the hustle and bustle of the town.
Our room has some what dated decor and fixtures but it dies offer a lovely balcony with great views of the harbour.
Simple breakfast with some variety. The rolls are lovely and fresh. The serving lady is a delight.
20 to 25 minute down hill walk to the main part of the town. The walk back is fine until the last few hundred metres. At this point the slope increases a fair bit and I found I was starting to struggle. Luckily it’s only for a short distance!
Would certainly recommend to those who are reasonably fit(ish).

Like others, at first wondered why I had booked, but by the end of the first day we were relaxed, looking over the town with a glass of wine on the balcony. We had the attic room, sun in the morning from 8am. The best view, watched the cruise ship come in. Service was excellent, although most speak no English we tried out our Portuguese with lots of fun. Used the pool a couple of times. Micaela the receptionist speaks ex English and helps with bookings when she is there. We loved having the extra buns from breakfast for a snack later in the day. Enjoyed our stay in a local neighbourhood, rather than a tourist hotel!
The walk up the hill is a bit of a challenge but not as bad as it first seems. Only had to take a taxi once. Loved Madeira.

Just returned from a week here and would happily come again. The staff were all very welcoming and friendly - Micaela is an absolute star. The rooms were clean, tidy and very comfortable. Breakfast was always served with a smile and varied each day. It is a bit of a trek going up the hill, but the thought of a welcoming cold beer always spurred me on.

The view from our balcony was stunning and with the arrival and departure of various cruise ships, rarely the same each day.

A thoroughly charming place to stay and we would happily stay there again
