Hope i will have the chance some time to come back to Funchal and if so i know where i will book .
Close enough to the Old Town up on the hill.
Overlooking the harbour from the pool for a bit of cruise-liner spotting.
The staff are amazing, thank you Micaela and Magdalena
The hotel is quite basic but spotlessly clean and the rooms facing the harbour have spectacular views. The room we had an excellent free WIFI connection but if this is important it would be better to request this at booking as I have no idea how the connection is in other rooms.
The breakfast was continental in style but we found to be plenty. The bread rolls were fresh and delicious. The breakfast varied by day between yoghurt, banana, cheese, ham, salami. The coffee was filtered and of a good quality.
There was a safety deposit box in the room chargeable at €2 a day but frankly is probably not needed, staff are on duty 24/7. The bar is frequented by local people and was a nice meeting place.
Robert the night security man arranged a lovely full day tour for us taking us above the cloud level for magnificent views and this would be recommended for those wanting to venture out. He also arranged our return to the airport by private transfer.
Micaela the receptionist has impeccable english and is happy to help with advice whenever needed.
If you want a simple hotel with amazing views where your stay is important to the management, you won't be disappointed.
the walk from Funchal was the best type of excersize one could hope for.
the breakfast could be filled with more vegetables and less bread!°
Our room has some what dated decor and fixtures but it dies offer a lovely balcony with great views of the harbour.
Simple breakfast with some variety. The rolls are lovely and fresh. The serving lady is a delight.
20 to 25 minute down hill walk to the main part of the town. The walk back is fine until the last few hundred metres. At this point the slope increases a fair bit and I found I was starting to struggle. Luckily it’s only for a short distance!
Would certainly recommend to those who are reasonably fit(ish).
The walk up the hill is a bit of a challenge but not as bad as it first seems. Only had to take a taxi once. Loved Madeira.
The view from our balcony was stunning and with the arrival and departure of various cruise ships, rarely the same each day.
A thoroughly charming place to stay and we would happily stay there again
