Detailed Reviews
Great location in the centre of the city, attractions easily accessible by walk. Furniture a bit old, but for the price it is acceptable. Nice roof terrace for breakfast, which is simple but nice and everything is fresh including local fruits. Walls are not soundproof, so rooms can be quite noisy because of the lift and the staircase

I stayed in an apartment in a separate building round the corner from the main hotel. The apartment was very spacious and the bed was spotlessly clean. However, the apartment itself wasn't cleaned very well. After walking around in my bare feet for about 10 minutes, the soles of my feet were black! There was also dangerous electrics. The electric socket for the cooker was hanging off the wall and the electric cable was taped with masking tape through which you could see bare electric wires. However, on the plus side, the location of the hotel was brilliant - just a short walk from the sea front and surrounded by loads of shops. There was a great supermarket just 3 or 4 minutes walk from the hotel. The receptionists, Suzi and Raquel, were great and were so helpful. The breakfast was basic but there was plenty of it and it was served on a lovely sun terrace. If you're planning getting a taxi from the airport, I would recommend that you pre-book one before you arrive. Madeira Airport Transfers only charge 7 euros for a pre-booked car. If you get one from the main taxi queue it's 32 euros. All in all, I would definitely return to this hotel as for about £160 per week it was excellent value for money. I just hope the electrics are updated by the time I go back!

We went for the flower festival, so wanted something in town where we could walk to events, without a huge uphill hike back. We are seniors, so one consideration was the elevator. But when we checked in, they took us next door, to a 3rd floor room and no elevator. Room was also tiny, not as pictured on website at all.
To her credit, the receptionist carried one bag up for us, and returned shortly to say they could move us to a larger room next day. We were given our choice of a couple kitchenette rooms that were available, in yet another annex building but with elevator; we chose a top floor one with balcony big enough for table and chairs.
Furnishings and kitchen supplies were pretty basic, but clean and staff friendly and helpful. Location was better than I'd realized, easy walk to parade route and other flower events, as well as old town, cable car, waterfront, etc.
When we decided to extend our stay in Funchal and this hotel could not accommodate us, we found an even better deal at Vitorina Cortes private rooms in the old town. A few euros less, a much better-supplied kitchenette, and beautiful water view!
Usual disadvantage of intown places is street noise - who would have thought it possible on the narrow, one-way cobbled lane, but cars and motorbikes whizzed by annoyingly. Not bad at night, though, and never bothered our sleep.

We stayed at this hotel twice and have booked it again. It’s a budget-friendly place in the very centre of Funchal. It has everything we need really - the rooms are spacious, there’s always hot water in the shower, the rooms are cleaned every day. Faultless, fast WiFi (crucial if you are working remotely or travelling with a teen). Massive kudos to the amazing staff - they are very friendly and courteous. The location is perfect for sightseeing in Funchal or getting to other places in Madeira.

I stayed there for 10 days and was lovely place and lovely staff. Is situated in center of Funchal and if you are planning to explore the Island this is the best place to stay. Because the accomodation was not very expensive, I paid 600€ in the middle of the summer and you can have breakfast for just 7€. The girl at reception Claudia was very nice to me and she helped to get a very good deal on rent a car just 55€ a day full insurance cover and she give me a plan to explore the Island in 4 days which helped me to save time and money. I would highly recommend residential Colombo and I hope to came back when I'll have a Thank you very much!!! All done guys.💪

This is budget accommodation that is very clean and well maintained. The cleaning is done daily and is thorough. Reception staff were hugely supportive of me when I had a difficulty. I slept very well and there was no noise nuisance. The area is a busy one with lots of bars and restaurants and a very lively ambience.

Tiny hot room. Broken telephone, broken air conditioner. Stuffy and airless. Broken sink.
Broken chair and broken bathroom ceiling!
Rubbish. The staff when they are here are polite and try to help but place is an utter dump. We complained and were moved to an even smaller room which was so small you had to kneel to shower.
Finally got a tiny room with functional air con and a shower that a midget can stand in.
No double bed just two singles.
Don’t stay here. It’s clean but broken

We got a so-called flat 20m2 no table a double bed 120 we're the matras is smaller than the bed length 180. Forget about being comfy with 2 people. Then the noise from the neighbours who nicely literally banged on our door before 10 a for who knows what. No airco no fannothing except mosquitos. Kitchen nothing to cook and the tab stream lands outside the sink. So cet beside door sowhen u open the main door u destroy what is plugged in. Bathroom clean but very small and very old. I real scam. 46 euros for no sleep noise no space and really primitive bath. At level of the what is called in France "marchand de sommeil" and thé smell of the place like was not open for years. To be avoided.

stayed in this hotel 1 week and it was the worse hotel i have ever stayed in .
They took us to a building around the back , it was dirty , old , smelly and nasty. The room and the bed lining all smelled of cigarette smoke .
we were moved to the main building . it was noisy, there is a games arcade directly opposite this place and it was loud and opened till late .
will never stay here again , it ruined our holiday !
And the staff ? most unfriendly and unhelpful .

This is a very nice hotel in the city center. Clean room, nice terrace where you can eat breakfast. Hotel service was always helpful and very nice. But the most important advantage is location. Very close to the shore, marina and main square. Price was also very attractive.

No, we did not have any kettle there.
The aerobus from the airport costs 5 Euros. To get to this hotel you should get off at bus stop number 6 (Avenida Mar) and head north for about 5 to 10 minutes. Easy peasy if you are not carrying a heavy luggage.
