What a wonderful family run hotel right in the heart of the old town. Although so close to numerous bars and restaurants it exudes peace & tranquillity. Room exceptionally clean with fresh towels every day. Also the hotel provides towels for around the wonderful pool. Breakfast was plentiful, with fruit, bread, cheese & meats plus bacon and eggs. Every member of staff went above & beyond to make your stay as comfortable and relaxed as possible during this on going pandemic. Would I recommend this hotel? Without hesitation

When you walk into the reception at the Albergaria you are met with the walls covered with awards they have been given for their quality of service and friendliness.
We found that these awards are well deserved.
This is a small family run hotel of about 30 rooms that works on a B&B basis.
It is situated at the top of the Old Town district of Funchal and is well located for a short walk to the cable car and bus station. If you use the back gate out of the hotel it puts you in the heart of the Old Town area and it’s abundant restaurants.
There is a hearty breakfast available in the mornings with a selection of cooked, cereals, fruits, yoghurts, breads, pastries, juices and beverages. Breakfast can be taken inside or on the sunny secluded terrace by the pool.
There is also a bar area with a comprehensive selection of beer, wine and spirits available during the afternoons and evenings.
The hotel is spotlessly clean and the gardens well kept. These provide a secluded screen around the pool area.
The family and all the staff are the nicest friendliest people you could hope to find and they make sure your stay is as comfortable and pleasant as possible.
The room we had was a good size, nicely decorated and we had a balcony that overlooked the pool. There was a bath and mixer shower attachment and soap and shampoo provided. The room also has a refrigerator.
The only thing for me that was missing was a kettle in the room.

This was our second stay here, the first being 12 years ago. The hotel is well run, clean with a very good buffet breakfast and friendly, helpful staff. It is worth paying a little extra, as we did, for a 3rd floor room so that you have a good view of the ocean and harbour from the balcony. The location in the Old Town within yards of many restaurants whilst close to the cable car and bus services cannot be beaten.
The hotel pool is not really usable unless you like cold swimming! It was cold in May the last time we stayed so it is not just a winter issue. The bathroom is quite small (not enough room for 2 people at once) with a shower over the bath rather than a shower cubicle. Whilst a good size empty fridge was in the room for wine, fruit juice etc from the supermarket there are no tea/ coffee making facilities though these can be purchased at the hotel bar.
I had a problem with my credit card when I paid our bill but I raised this with the hotel after I realised the problem on returning home. The hotel manager agreed to put it right which is good of them as the mistake was not of their doing (or mine) but seemed to be caused by the card machine company. This is a very good indication of the hotel's attitude to customer service that they were willing to sort this out for me promptly and to my satisfaction. Many thanks to them for doing this - much appreciated.

On previous visits to Funchal, we had stayed at the Pestana Carlton but on our last visit in 2020, it felt that it had gone downhill a bit and Trip Advisor reviews suggested the same. We therefore went for the Albergaria Dias and we’re not disappointed. It is a small friendly family run hotel - the older Senhor Dias was always around with a cheery greeting for everyone. We were introduced to individual members of staff, all of whom seemed perpetually cheerful. Bedrooms and bathrooms are not the most modern but were fine. Breakfast was fine, with fresh fruit salad and hot and cold choices. The hotel is well situated in the Old Town, with an alley way leading to the nearby streets with their multitude of restaurants. There is a small attractive garden with a pool, although no one ventured in during our stay. All in all a relaxing and friendly hotel - we have already booked to go again next year.

A complimentary welcome drink was offered upon arrival while paperwork was taken care of. Staff is very friendly and caring. Room clean and even on first floor, no insects. I feel so safe here that I sleep with the balcony doors open instead of blasting the air conditioner. Great breakfast. This little hotel is well located for a single traveler as well as for groups. Back door gate take you to a great variety of restaurants. Cable-car and bus station within 5 min walking. Shops close by. Main shopping street within 10 min walking. (If you want shopping mall I recommend Madeira shopping - bus 8 (Zara, Berskha, iStore)). Most travel companies pick up at front gate. Only one travel company wanted to pick up at the cable station 5 min away. I can highly recommend this hotel.

An excellent hotel, with wonderful and attentive staff. They really go above and beyond. A lovely breakfast served from 8-10 am, but earlier on request if you have an excursion planned. Check-out is 12 with showers available, good air con & fridges in the rooms. The private entrance to old town is so useful, with restaurants only 100 ft away. The hotel booked all our excursions and advised us of where to go. There’s no iron available however their ironing service is very reasonable (€3).
I really recommend this hotel for a peaceful getaway and don’t doubt we will stay here again.

This was a return visit to this hotel so we knew that it would be spotlessly clean, friendly and efficient staff and a warm family welcome. It did not disappoint. It is a little haven of peace and quiet, well most of the time.
We did have a couple niggles, the bath towels are a bit thin, the pool towels are lovely, perhaps the time has come for replacements.
Our other niggle was that smoking was allowed around the pool and in the covered area by the dining room, as well as the balconies. I know smoking in these areas is within the legal guidelines but a small number of smokers can make it a no go area for the majority. Perhaps a dedicated smoking area above the entrance
could be created.
Will we return, off course, already booked!!!!

My husband and and I booked last minute. What a treat. The hotel is lovely, the location perfect, in the heart of the old town. All rooms have sea view where you can watch cruise ships come in, and if there for new year you can have a fabulous night, but head for your balcony with a large rum to watch the fireworks as it's perfect. The staff are so nice, friendly and helpful.
Also I had the privilege of meeting the family who own the hotel, they are lovely and took an interest in how our holiday was going.
We will definitely be back

Our fourth visit here and this wonderful hotel never ceases to deliver. A lovely secluded hotel in the middle of the old town, handy for everything. The staff are all amazing, so friendly and helpful. In these days of COVID regulations Carla is there to quietly help any Brits struggling with the dreaded passenger locator form. She does an amazing job.
It’s a small, family run hotel and the care and attention to detail all show. Our friends, visiting for the first time, loved every bit of it and, like us, will certainly return.

What can I say that hasn’t already been said?

We have travelled for many many years and stayed in loads of accommodation, but this place has to have the most friendliest and attentive staff we have ever encountered.

From the moment we arrived to the moment we left every single member of staff has been fab.

Carla, Katrina, Monica and Celia clearly love their jobs and could not be more genuine and fabulous. (Sorry not sure the name of the cleaner and the lady in the kitchen that was equally as nice).

My partner was Ill for his actual birthday and they were so caring, asking how he was and offering remedies, cancelling pre arranged bookings and offering alternatives.

They even did a belated birthday sing song at breakfast when he felt better, along with a bottle of bubbles.

If we returned to Madeira we wouldn’t stay anywhere else!

Thanks albergaria dias you have been top class in every way!

Yes there is, at the back of the hotel are the dining room and then out onto the patio and swimming pool. Make a left outside and follow the path. You can also enter back the same way.
