Good position, very close to the Old Town of Funchal and very clean. The street is not very noisy, but the walls are not soundproofed….
The restaurant is at the 6th floor, they also have a terrace and uppstairs is a bar; the view is amazing from there! but the bar is not opened….so one can just go up for a cigarette…
The hotel is good if you want a clean place to sleep and a quick breakfast; the lobby and the bar are old style, but clean; ask for a room with a balcony…unfortunately we did not had one…and there is no place to dry your bathing suit 😞
the breakfast is limited and repetitive, in a week there was nothing changed: only scrambled eggs and beans, some bacon, 2 sort of cheese and 2 of sauseges, yogurt, butter, nutella…and some fruit salad; the coffee is bad…I think it’s instant coffee not acutally coffee.

I stayed for 2 weeks. Had been there before. Had room 516 with small balcony. Some rooms on one side of hotel are facing a new extension with no view. Just had breakfast only. Plenty of choice. Very bright dining room 6th floor with views over the city to the sea and up to the mountains. Has large sun area on roof above dining room. Friendly cheerful staff. Internet access and computer desk for guests. Very busy hotel. Hotel is uphill from city. No parking space, but lots of underground car parks nearby. I used Parque 5 de Outubro on street of same name €4 per day. Ony 4 or 5 minutes walk from hotel. You have a pass to go in and out any time of day or night. There are others nearby. There is a car park in Rua dos Netos €6 per day. Along the Rua dos Netos there is a small corner shop selling a bit of everything. Drinks, wine, fruit bread etc. Busses pass near hotel going to Monte etc. Get a GIRO card 50c and have journeys put on card €1.35 each €1.95 on bus. Bus to Monte Nos. 21 & 22.

The bed is comfortable, since it’s on the middle of the town you do not have a good view from the balcony and are looking on houses instead. Breakfast has been alright, the view from the breakfast room on the sixth floor is pretty nice! It’s been clean.

I spend some days in the hotel with my family during the year end, and I was not impressed.
The staff was very friendly and the rooms were always clean, bu don't expect a lot from the room facilities as rooms are small and soundproofing between rooms is very weak.
Breakfast and meal offer/options is very limited.
The only outstanding place in the hotel is the roof top when in fact is probably one of the best spots in the island to see the firework. But even this space can have much more utility with the appropriate conditions.
Location is good to walk in city center.
We had an issue with the lunch arrangement that management was not able to deal with and did not act professionally in order to ensure customer satisfaction.

I stayed here during March a s a solo traveler.. There are so many things wrong with this place, from the management down. The desk staff apart from one person are unfriendly and nearly always give a negative response to all requests. The rooms are pathetically dark with 8 watt bedside lighting ! Amazing . Even a candle would throw out more light than these,The rooms are usually either have a stunning view of an opposite wall or lots of traffic noise,, The complete design of the hotel from the building up is a calamity in the making, In my room next door's toilet and bath was adjacent to my bed head wall, A master stroke of stupidity. At one point the young newly-married, Portugese couple slammed their room door over 40 times in two hours , being either visited by guests or themselves, When I complained at the desk the woman said they were just wed so never mind. Amazing The only light in this hole is the completely opposite dining area at breakfasts , where buffet was good, waiter service good also an d excellent background music, If you take the effort to visit Madeira you deserve better than this dump.

i cannot understand the negative reviews-they must have been in a different hotel to me. The situation of the hotel near to the old town was excellent; the room, apart from thy bathroom which did have limited access, was large, clean and comfortable. Breakfast was good and plenty of choice; staff were always smiling, at least to us, and keen to offer advice.
Could not and would not criticise thsi hotel

Arrived here quite late and had a very easy check in ..room was quite large and had a balcony for a small fee. Clean towels every day and had a very good night's sleep.the hotel is situated very central in Funchal between old town and the New town .breakfast was very good with a selection of hot and cold products and great view over the town and Atlantic. Would definitely recommend returning here .

Hotel Orquidea has just been renovated and so everything is new and in good condition. The room I stayed in was huge and had everything I needed for my stay. The staff were exceptionally friendly and made me feel so welcome, giving me advice and ensuring I had the best stay. The location was perfect. The hotel is situated about 5 minutes away from Funchal's centre. I will stay there again on my next trip!!

My wife and I are keen city travellers and we've stayed at city hotels all over Eruope (Prague, Paris, Lisbon, Madrid, Barcelona etc.). This hotel was by far one of the cleanest and friendliest we've stayed in.

Our room was in excellent condition, the staff were always helpful and the breakfast, full continental, with bacon & eggs, was really good value for money. I recommend Hotel Orquidea to anyone in search of a good city hotel in Madeira

We have just come back from a fantastic holiday, based at this lovely hotel. the location is just perfect being right in the heart of Funchal. The hotel is obviously recently renovated, and we found it to be spotless throughout. The room was a very good size, with THE MOST comfortable bed! All the hotel staff were friendly, especially the girl at the front desk, who helped us make the best of our short holiday giving us really good advice and info about what to do and see. Hovever, the best thing about the hotel from my point of view was the food. As other reviews have mentioned the breakfast buffet is AWSOME, with wonderful fresh fruit and first class presentation every day. The star attraction has to be the hotel restauraunt, which serves a quite exquisite selection of food which i think is best described as modern tradditional. All of the meals we eat there came beautifully presented and were full of flavour. The Meat and fish is all of very high quality. As far as the wine is concerned they have a good list, but the local red is very very drinkable bargain ..... a must!!! We will definitely be going back to stay in this charming hotel in the future.
